Capital One cards are known for their simple rewards, great customer service, and easy-to-use site and apps.  Folks who don’t like to think about the complexities of other rewards programs find Capital One cards to be very convenient!

But there are a lot of Capital One cards to choose from!  So which one is best for you?

Best Capital One Credit Card
You Can Use Rewards From Any Capital One Card to Put Toward Your Next Vacation! But Some Cards Earn Travel Credits, While Others Earn Cash Back. And Some Are for Small Business. So Which Should You Get?

I’ll go over your options.  And help you decide!

Best Capital One Credit Card 2018

To begin, it’s important to note Capital One offers personal cards and small business cards.  Anyone can apply for a personal card.  And if you have decent credit, you stand a good chance of approval.

But you must have a for-profit venture to apply for a small business credit card.  That doesn’t mean you have to make millions in revenue.  In fact, there are lots of side hustles that can qualify you for a small business credit card!

Whether you want a card for personal or small business use is the first factor to consider.  Then you can compare your options more precisely.  Let’s take a look!

Capital One Personal Cards

1.   Capital One Venture Cards

Link:   Review: Capital One Venture Card Vs. Capital One VentureOne

The Capital One VentureOne and Capital One Venture cards are great for folks who want to travel.  But who can’t rely on available award flights and hotel nights.  If you’re someone who does NOT have flexible travel dates and times, these cards might be right for you!

That’s because you can redeem Venture miles to offset nearly any travel purchase, including:

  • Flights
  • Hotels
  • Rental cars
  • Lyft and Uber rides
  • Airbnb stays
  • Seat upgrades
  • Baggage fees

Each mile is worth 1 cent toward travel.  And these cards have NO minimum redemption increment when redeeming miles, unless you’re using miles to partially pay for a travel purchase.  In that case, the minimum is 2,500 miles ($25).  After you use your card to pay for a travel purchase, you have 90 days to “erase” it using your miles!

Use Your Capital One Miles to Pay for Travel to Places You Can’t Use Points, Like National Parks! Or Collect Them If You Don’t Like Searching for Awards or Thinking About Blackout Dates

The Capital One VentureOne card comes with 20,000 Venture miles (worth $200 in travel) after spending $1,000 on purchases within the first 3 months.  And the Capital One Venture card offers 50,000 Venture miles (worth $500 in travel) after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months.

The major differences are:

With both cards, you’ll earn 10 Venture miles per $1 you spend on hotel stays booked and paid through this Hotels.com link through January 31, 2020.

The More You Use Your Card for Regular Expenses, the More Rewards You’ll Earn to Save on Travel!

Because of the Capital One Venture’s $95 annual fee, you’d have to spend at least $12,667 each year for the card to be more profitable than the no annual fee Capital One VentureOne ($95 annual fee / 0.75 cents difference in rewards earnings) if you decide to keep it for more than a year.

That said, if you spend $1,000+ on the card each month for regular expenses, the Capital One Venture card might be the better choice.

Here’s a full review and comparison between the 2 cards.

2.   Capital One Quicksilver

Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card

The Capital One Quicksilver Card comes with a $150 sign-up bonus after spending $500 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.  And there’s NO annual fee.

With this card, you earn 1.5% cash back on all purchases.  The biggest difference between this and the Venture cards above is you get rewards as a check or statement credit, any time, with no minimum redemption amount for ANY purchase.  So you don’t have to save your rewards for travel purchases.

I do NOT recommend this card if you’re just starting out in the miles & points hobby.  Because if you’re looking for a cash back card without annual fees, there are better options.  That said, you might consider it if you like the simplicity of redeeming the rewards.  Or if you really don’t want to pay an annual fee.  Though I’ve found I can get huge rewards with annual fee cards!

3.   Capital One Savor

Link:   Capital One® Savor® Cash Rewards Credit Card

Link:   Earn 4% Back on Dining, 2% on Groceries With No Annual Fee!

The Capital One Savor card offers:

  • Unlimited 4% cash back on dining and entertainment
  • Unlimited 2% cash back on groceries
  • Unlimited 1% cash back on all other purchases

You’ll earn $500 cash bonus after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.  And there’s NO annual fee.

If You Dine out Often, You Might Consider the Capital One Savor Card to Earn 3% Cash Back!

If you’re just starting out in miles & points, and plan to apply for lots of cards later, the Capital One Savor card is NOT the best card for you.  Because there are other credit cards with much higher sign-up bonuses that earn more valuable points and have better travel benefits.

But if you spend a lot on food and are looking for a card with a simple earning structure, the Capital One Savor card could be worth considering.

Capital One® Spark® Miles for Business

The Capital One Spark Miles and Capital One Spark Miles Select are great for small business owners who like flexibility in redeeming rewards for travel.

Turn Your Small Business Purchases Into Travel Rewards With the Capital One Spark Small Business Cards

The miles you earn with these small business cards work just like the Venture miles earned on the personal cards.  You can redeem them for nearly any travel purchase.

The Capital One Spark Miles Select comes with 20,000 Spark miles (worth $200 in travel) after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months.  And the Capital One Spark Miles card offers 50,000 Spark miles (worth $500 in travel) after spending $4,500 on purchases within the first 3 months.

The major differences are:

These cards earn effectively 1.5% to 2% back on all purchases that you can use for travel.  Here’s my full review and comparison of the 2 cards.

2.   Capital One Spark Cash Cards

Capital One® Spark® Cash for Business

Both of these cards each cash back rewards you can redeem for a check or statement credit, any time, with no minimum redemption amount.  Or you can set-up an automatic redemption, like $50 per month, for example.  So you can offset ANY purchase with cash back!

If You Prefer Cash in Hand for Your Small Business Expenses, Try the Capital One Spark Cash Cards

The Capital One Spark Cash Select for Business has a $200 cash bonus after spending $3,000 on purchases within three months of account opening.  And the Capital One Spark Cash for Business has a $500 sign-up bonus after spending $4,500 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.

The major differences are:

You’d have to spend $19,000 per year to make the $95 annual fee with the Capital One Spark Cash for Business card worth it for the extra 0.5% cash back ($95 annual fee / 0.5 cents difference in rewards earnings).  But the fee is waived the first year.  And the sign-up bonus is $300 more!

As always, run the numbers and choose the card that’s best for your small business finances.  And here’s my full review of the card.

Should You Apply for Capital One Cards?

I always recommend getting any Chase cards you want first.  Because they have some of the most valuable credit cards for getting Big Travel with Small Money!  And applying for any of these cards (even the small business cards) WILL count against Chase’s stricter approval rules.

But if you already have all the Chase cards you want, these could be a fit for you!  You can read more about the best card strategy for beginners.

If You Want Other Cards With Valuable Rewards Later on, Capital One Cards Are NOT the Place to Begin. And They Pull From All 3 Credit Bureaus

It’s important to remember that Capital One pulls from all 3 main credit bureaus when they process your application.  Most banks, like Chase and American Express, only pull from one.

So applying for a card from Capital One has a bigger effect on your credit score And even though the effect is temporary (if you pay your bills on time!), some folks avoid Capital One cards for this reason.

That said, if you just want a card with decent sign-up bonussimple cash-back rewards structure, and no foreign transaction fees, a Capital One card could make sense for you!

Bottom Line

The most popular Capital One personal cards are:

And consider these cards for your small business:

If you’re just beginning, I’d recommend starting with other cards as part of your strategy.

But if you’re looking for simple rewards that are easy to use, these cards could make a great choice!  Just keep in mind Capital One pulls from all 3 credit bureaus when you apply.

Which of these cards is your favorite?

Can i apply for 2 Capital one cards on same day and be approved for both? Or is there a restriction of how many cards to appy fr this company (Like Chase and Citibank)?

Also would Capital One merge my 2 inquires into one if applied on same day?
