Capital One Savor Review

How Much Is the Capital One Savor Welcome Bonus Worth?

Apply Here:    Capital One® Savor® Cash Rewards Credit Card

With the Capital One Savor, you’ll earn $500 cash back after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.

And because you’re earning straight cash instead of miles & points, your hands won’t be tied with redeeming the welcome bonus with certain airlines or hotels!

How to Earn Points With the Capital One Savor Card

In addition to the giant welcome bonus, you’ll earn bonus points in certain categories:

  • 4% cash back on dining
  • 4% cash back on entertainment
  • 2% cash back at grocery stores

You’ll earn 1% cash back on all other purchases.

There are NO caps on how much bonus cash back you can earn.  And these aren’t rotating categories that require you to enroll your card.  Just memorize these categories and start swiping, baby!

Cash Is the Most Flexible Credit Card Reward of ALL

How to Redeem Your Cash Back

Redeeming the cash back you earn with the Capital One Savor is easy.  You can request a check or statement credit, any time, with no minimum redemption amount.

Or you can set-up an automatic redemption, for example, $25 per month.  Whatever is most convenient for you!

Benefits of the Capital One Savor Card

Travel Accident Insurance

You’ll receive automatic insurance for a covered loss at no extra charge when you use the Capital One Savor to purchase your fare.

Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver

Rent an eligible vehicle with your credit card and you can be covered for damage due to collision or theft.  This is secondary insurance, so if you’re covered by your own insurance, this perk won’t kick in.

Extended Warranty

You’ll get additional warranty protection at no charge on eligible items that you purchase with the Capital One Savor.

The Capital One Savor Will Extend the Warranty on Many Items

Is the Capital One Savor Card Worth the Annual Fee?

The Capital One Savor has a $95 annual fee, waived the first year.  So there’s no risk in opening the card and trying it out to see if it fits your spending habits.

You could get a lot of value from the card’s benefits and perks, especially if you don’t have other cards that come with comprehensive benefits.

Does the Capital One Savor Card Have a Foreign Transaction Fee?

No!

Who Is Eligible for the Capital One Savor Card?

As long as you don’t have 5+ open Capital One cards, you’re eligible for the Capital One Savor card!

Just note that Capital One doesn’t process more than 1 personal credit card per 6 months.  So if you’ve opened a Capital One card in the past 6 months, best to wait a little while.

Also, if you’re new to the miles & points hobby, we recommend you open all the Chase credit cards you want first, because many come with substantial welcome bonuses and perks.  And they have strict application rules.

If you’ve opened 5+ cards from any bank (NOT counting Chase business cards and certain other business cards) in the past 24 months, you won’t be approved for Chase cards.

Earning 4% back for dining is pretty grand.  But you don’t need a card with a $95 annual fee to do it!

The no-annual-fee Barclays Uber Visa Card earns 4% back for dining purchases.  This card also has NO foreign transaction fees.  So you can earn bonus rewards dining abroad without paying more for your meal.

Who Would Have Suspected the Barclays Uber Card to Be Such a Powerhouse at Restaurants?

You’ll also earn:

  • 3% back for hotels and airfare
  • 2% back for Uber rides and online purchases
  • 1% back for all other purchases
  • $50 “subscription credit” for online subscription services (you must spend $5,000+ on your card in a year)

However, the card doesn’t come with nearly as enticing a welcome bonus as the Capital One Savor.  The Barclays Uber Visa will give you $100 after spending $500 on purchases within the first 90 days of account opening.
