With 5,000 hotels in nearly 100 countries around the world, there’s certainly no shortage of IHG hotels to choose from. But if you’re new to miles & points or are just familiarizing yourself with IHG’s loyalty program, you might be wondering what IHG’s award chart is like.
What’s especially nice is that IHG keeps it simple – free nights at IHG hotels cost anywhere from 10,000 to 70,000 points per night with no blackout dates. They don’t employ dynamic pricing, meaning a hotel’s category will dictate the cost of an award and the nightly price won’t vary at all. That’s handy for folks who earn IHG points from cards like the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card – you know exactly what you’re gonna get from your hard-earned points!
Here’s a rundown of the IHG award chart, including an alternate way you can use your points to help offset the cost of a stay and a way to find discounted points rates, too!
The information for the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card has been collected independently by Million Mile Secrets. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer
IHG Award Chart
You really can find whatever kind of stay you’re looking for using IHG points. With 12 different brands, you can choose from more basic and efficient rooms at hotels like Holiday Inn Express. Or use your points to splurge at a luxury InterContinental hotel.
I recently stayed at the InterContinental Hong Kong and it was undoubtedly one of the best hotel points redemptions I’ve ever had! Our room overlooked Victoria Harbor and my family and I had the best time enjoying cocktails as we watched the boats move about!
Here’s a look at IHG’s categories and how many points you’ll need for a free night:

More Ways to Use IHG Points
There’s also quarterly IHG PointBreaks list. With IHG PointBreaks, you can book certain IHG hotels around the world at a discounted rate of either 5,000, 10,000, or 15,000 IHG points per night. There are some great deals to be had if they fit your travel plans.
Just remember, it’s best to book a PointBreaks stay as soon as possible if you think you’ll use it, because the best hotels will sell out MUCH faster at this discounted rate. You’re allowed to book 2 stays per hotel and the stay length is not limited. And you can always cancel later and get your IHG points back if you change your mind.
IHG also offers Points & Cash rates that vary by destination. There’s a 5,000-point minimum for Points & Cash stays and essentially, you’ll be using your points to offset the cost of a booking.
Lastly, don’t forget you can also use the IHG Points & Cash trick to “buy” IHG points for as little as ~0.6 cents each, giving you yet another option to book discounted hotel stays.
Want to Earn More IHG Points?
If you want to earn IHG points for free hotel stays, consider applying for the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card. It currently comes with an up to 120,000 IHG point bonus after spending meeting tiered minimum spending requirements:
- 80,000 IHG points after spending $2,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening
- An additional 40,000 IHG points after spending another $3,000 on purchases ($5,000 in total) within the first 6 months of account opening
You can check out our full review of the IHG credit card here.
You can also transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points from cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred to IHG at a 1:1 ratio, but I usually don’t recommend this. There are much better Chase transfer partners that will give you exponentially more value for your points, like United Airlines and Hyatt.
