The Business Platinum® Card from American Express is now offering a huge 100,000 AMEX Membership Rewards point welcome bonus! This is a limited-time offer that is good through August 8, 2018.
There are lots of great ways to use your AMEX Membership Rewards points for Big Travel with Small Money! My husband’s family lives in Minnesota, and we don’t get to see them as often as we would like, so if I had this 100,000-point bonus right now I would use it to visit family.
While Ohio and Minnesota aren’t too far away, flights for 3 people can get expensive! Using points for flights allows me to book more trips without having to worry about cost. In this post, I’ll show you how you how you could get over $1,700 worth of flights from just this one welcome bonus!
While this card isn’t for everyone because of the hefty minimum spending requirement, if you have some big purchases coming up, this could be a great addition to your wallet.
American Express Business Platinum Card 100,000 Point Bonus
Apply Here: American Express Business Platinum Card
The American Express Business Platinum bonus has increased to up to 100,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points after meeting tiered minimum spending requirements through August 8, 2018. The bonus is structured in 2 separate tiers so it’s possible to only earn part of the full bonus. Here are the 2 tiers:
- Earn 50,000 American Express points buy spending $10,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening
- Earn an extra 50,000 American Express points by spending an additional $15,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening
That’s a total of 100,000 bonus points you can earn by spending $25,000 in the first 3 months of having the card. After earning the full 100,000 point bonus, you will have at least 125,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points! (100,000 points from the bonus plus 25,000 points from the minimum spend.)
In addition to the great welcome bonus, this card comes with lots of benefits to offset the $450 annual fee. Here are just a few reasons why the American Express Business Platinum is a great card:

Use Your Points to Visit Family More Often
While visiting family in the US isn’t exotic, one of the great things about collecting points and miles is that it can make any type of travel more accessible. Getting to take my daughter to visit her grandparents twice with only 1 welcome bonus is a win in my book.
I love seeing my daughter get to spend time with our far away family on their own turf. Whether it’s exploring sites like Minnehaha Falls or just picking raspberries with Grandpa in the backyard, she loves getting to explore Minneapolis with her grandparents. The bond that she is now able to form with them is worth all the money in the world – and I can give that to her thanks to flexible credit card points from cards like the American Express Business Platinum.
Transfer American Express Membership Rewards Points To Delta
American Express points transfer to 16 different airlines and 3 hotel chains. Transfers to Delta are at a 1:1 ratio and are usually instant.
I found available award seats on Delta to fly from Columbus, Ohio, to Minneapolis for only 18,000 Delta miles plus ~$11 in taxes. That means that my 125,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points could get me, my husband, and my daughter each a round-trip ticket to visit family in Minnesota – TWICE! And I would even have some points to spare.
This flight costs ~$296 for each round-trip. That means my family of 3 can save $1,776 from just this one welcome bonus!
One thing to remember when transferring American Express Membership Rewards points to Delta is that you will be charged an excise tax. This fee is .06 cents per point with a maximum of $99. This fee also applies to transfers to other US airlines including Hawaiian Airlines and JetBlue.
Pay With Points
Using AMEX Pay With Points, when you have the AMEX Business Platinum can sometimes be a better deal than transferring your points. Usually, you get 1 cent per point towards your ticket. But AMEX Business Platinum cardholders can get a 35% points rebate. You’ll get:
- 35% of your points back for ALL First Class or Business Class flights booked through the AMEX travel portal
- 35% of your points back for all flights, including coach tickets, booked with your selected airline through the AMEX travel portal
In this case, if Delta was my selected airline, each $296 flight would cost 29,600 AMEX Membership Rewards points. But after the 35% rebate, each flight would only be 19,240 AMEX Membership Rewards points each! That’s a great, but in this case transferring to Delta is the better option because these flights only cost 18,000 Delta miles.
Is the AMEX Business Platinum a Good Deal?
This is a great bonus if you can handle the hefty spending requirements. Because American Express limits the number of times you can earn a bonus to once per card per lifetime, it’s good to strike while the iron is hot (aka while the bonus is nice and high like it is now!)
Unfortunately, I won’t be getting this card right now. I already have the The Platinum Card® from American Express and I would like to wait until that one is cancelled to get the business version. There are many benefits of these 2 cards that overlap, so I would like to space them out a bit.
If you have never had either of these cards before and have some big expenses coming up, the AMEX Business Platinum might be a better deal because the annual fee is lower. Keep in mind, you might be able to qualify for a business card without even knowing it!
The American Express Business Platinum card is now offering a huge 100,000 point bonus through August 8, 2018. The tiered spending thresholds are quite high, requiring a $25,000 minimum spend on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening to earn the full 100,000 points. But the benefits of this card are numerous.
I would use the points to visit family more often. I love that I can get 2 full trips for myself, my husband, and my daughter to go visit her grandparents with just one credit card! These flights would have otherwise cost $1,776. That’s a lot of money saved, plus the look on my daughter’s face when she gets to see her family is priceless!
How would you use 100,000 American Express Membership Rewards points?
