With the current in-branch offer for the Ink Plus card you can:
Earn 70,000 bonus points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
And also:
Earn 5 points per $1 on the first $50,000 spent in combined purchases at office supply stores and on cellular phone, landline, internet and cable TV services each account anniversary year. Earn 2 points per $1 on the first $50,000 spent in combined purchases at gas stations and hotel accommodations when purchased directly with the hotel each account anniversary year. Earn 1 point per $1 on all other purchases – with no limit to the amount you can earn.
If you don’t live near a Chase branch or prefer online applications, the 60,000 point online offer is still a great deal.
And don’t forget, there are many ways to qualify as a small business. You just need a for-profit venture such as designing or programming websites, selling real estate, or being a freelance photographer.
It can also be a good card to start with if you’re thinking about applying for other cards. Because with Chase’s tougher approval rules, if you’ve opened more than ~5 credit cards (not counting these business cards) within the past 24 months from ANY bank, it’s likely you will NOT be approved for most Chase cards.
If you don’t have a small business, I’d suggest getting the Chase Sapphire Preferred instead. It’s the #1 card I recommend for folks new to miles & points.
Using Chase Ultimate Rewards Points for Big Travel on United Airlines & Partners
Link: The Ultimate Guide to United Miles
United Airlines miles are very useful! That’s because:
- They have more airline partners than any other US airline
- They never add fuel surcharges to award tickets
- It’s easy to search for award flights
- You can instantly transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to United Airlines
And, United Airlines lets you book one-way award seats. This means you could fly to one city and leave from another, or fly there using United Airlines miles and come home using another airline’s miles.
Sometimes United Airlines offers promotions to save miles when booking award flights. For example, a recent promotion offered 25% off round-trip award flights to Europe.
Here are 3 ways you can use the 70,000 point Ink Plus sign-up bonus for travel on United Airlines and their partner airlines!
1. End of Summer in Hawaii
Did you know you can get discounted United Airlines award flights to Hawaii by booking through Singapore Airlines?
For example, you can book a non-stop round-trip United Airlines award flight in coach from Los Angeles to Maui by transferring 35,000 Ultimate Rewards points to Singapore Airlines. I found a lot of available award seats in August 2016.
This same flight would require 45,000 miles if you booked directly on United Airlines.
Note: You’ll have to call Singapore Airlines to book the United Airlines award flight. It only takes a few minutes. But, it’s definitely worth it to save 10,000 miles! The 70,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards point sign-up bonus is enough for 2 round-trip award tickets to Maui. So, you and a friend or family member can enjoy some time in Hawaii together!
The same 2 tickets would cost ~$1,178 if you paid in cash. So you’re saving a lot of money with just 1 credit card sign-up bonus.
2. A Warm New Year Celebration in San Juan, Puerto Rico
You can use United Airlines miles to escape a cold northeast winter with a trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
For example, I found a non-stop, round-trip Business Class award flight leaving Newark on December 31, 2016, and returning on January 4, 2017, for 60,000 United Airlines miles.
This same flight costs ~$924. So, you’ll save money and still have 10,000 Ultimate Rewards points remaining if you get the 70,000 point sign-up bonus.
3. West Coast to Dublin Non-Stop
You can use United Airlines miles to fly Ethiopian Airlines (a Star Alliance partner) non-stop between Los Angeles and Dublin.
I found plenty of available award seats on this route in July and August.
A non-stop round-trip award flight costs 60,000 United Airlines miles and ~$122 in taxes and fees. Although the taxes and fees are high, this flight can cost ~$1,600 if you paid cash. So, you’ll still save a lot of money.
Keep in mind Ethiopian Airlines flies between these cities only 3 times per week.
Bottom Line
You’ll earn 70,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points when you sign-up for the Ink Plus card in-branch and meet the minimum spending requirements. Or you can apply online for the 60,000 point bonus if you don’t have a Chase branch nearby.
The limited time sign-up bonus can earn you more than $1,600 in flights on United Airlines and their partner airlines. Plus, it’s easy to search for United Airlines award flights.
How would you use the sign-up bonus for travel on United Airlines?
