INSIDER SECRET: Before booking any Hilton award stays, make sure to open one of the Amex Hilton credit cards to earn automatic Hilton status and receive the fifth night free on award stays of five or more consecutive nights.
The Hilton Honors loyalty program often gets a bit of a bad rap because of the sheer number of points it takes to redeem for a free night. Many of the top properties cost as much as 95,000 points per night, which is a far cry from Hyatt’s award chart which starts at only 5,000 points per night. Still, in the pricey hotel markets that make up most of Europe, a free night can go a long way.
If you’re a Hilton loyalist but worried about parting with so many of your points at once, the easy answer is to just pad your account balance. You can apply for one of the Hilton co-branded American Express credit cards to help earn points. Given Amex’s restriction that you can only earn the bonus on a given credit card once per lifetime, it’s important to time your applications around the highest possible welcome offers. See the current Hilton card offers below:
- Hilton Honors American Express Card – Earn 80,000 Hilton Honors bonus points after you spend $1,000 in purchases on the card in the first three months of card membership. Terms apply.
- Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card – Earn 130,000 Hilton Honors bonus points after you spend $2,000 in purchases on the card in the first three months of card membership. Terms apply.
- Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card — 150,000 Hilton points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening. Terms Apply.
- The Hilton Honors American Express Business Card – Earn 130,000 Hilton Honors bonus points reward after you spend $3,000 in purchases on the card in the first three months of card membership.

Whether you choose to apply for one of these cards or several, you can easily rack up hundreds of thousands of Hilton points to use on your next vacation. If you’re planning a trip across the pond, here are some of the best Hilton hotels in Europe with points.

1. Maison Astor Paris, Curio Collection by Hilton
I’m a huge fan of Hilton’s Curio Collection, which offers unique luxury properties that feel local and authentic and not overly corporate and branded. The Maison Astor Paris is a great example, with rooms starting at just 50,000 Hilton points or $226 per night.
The hotel is just a few blocks away from the Champs-Élysées, making it walking distance to some of the most iconic destinations in Paris. Folks on TripAdvisor rate the hotel as excellent, highlighting its location as one of the reasons for its consistently high reviews.
2. Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Resort
Rome is a city renowned for its ancient history, but it can also be the perfect spot for a relaxing vacation if you’d prefer. The Rome Cavalieri, a Waldorf Astoria Resort, is a great choice at 80,000 Hilton points per night or as much as $600+ during peak season.
The hotel is home to La Pergola, the “best restaurant in Rome” and the only one in the city to boast 3 Michelin stars. With a total of four pools and an incredibly prestigious art collection, this property is one of a kind.
3. Conrad London St. James
When it comes to pricey hotel markets it doesn’t get much worse than London, whether you plan on paying in cash or points. With many DoubleTree hotels costing as much as 60,000 points per night, spending 80,000 points for a more luxurious stay at the swanky Conrad London St. James seems like a reasonable decision.
The hotel is located a five-minute walk from Buckingham Palace in one direction and Westminster in the other — about as prime a location as you can hope for. You can enjoy contemporary British dining at the hotel’s onsite restaurant, or unwind with a drink at Blue Boar Bar, a “sophisticated take on the traditional British Pub.”
4. Hilton Dublin
Whether you come to Dublin for work or vacation, the Hilton Dublin is a great choice starting at 60,000 points per night or about $250.
The property overlooks Dublin’s Grand Canal, and is close to many famous tourist attractions as well as the Dublin convention center. The hotel gets good marks on TripAdvisor for its central location, friendly staff and an overall solid value.
5. Reykjavik Konsulat Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton
The explosion of budget airlines in Europe has made Iceland a more popular destination, whether you have an extended layover or plan on spending more time in this stunning country. You can book The Konsulat Hotel for 80,000 Hilton points per night or ~$450, and it’s housed in a restored building that used to be a department store in the early 1900s.
The property stays true to its heritage while still providing modern amenities, and with only 50 rooms and suites across the entire hotel, you can look forward to an intimate and relaxing stay.
Bottom Line
Whether you’re looking for big-city luxury or smaller, more unique properties, Hilton’s sprawling portfolio has something for you. European cities are prone to incredibly high cash rates for hotels, so if you’re planning a trip you should do your best to redeem points when possible.
If your Hilton points balance is getting too low, you can take advantage of the welcome bonuses from the Amex Hilton cards worth up to 150,000 points to jumpstart your next trip:
