Emily: I love to travel, and my mom does, too! When I was growing up in Ohio, we could only afford road trips to local amusement parks. But collecting miles and points has opened a world of travel neither of us thought possible!
She and I decided to go to London and Paris for a mother-daughter getaway. We flew Business Class and stayed in 5-star hotels. I paid for this trip for a fraction of the retail cost by using airline miles and hotel points.
I’ve never traveled so long with my mom before, and at the end of the trip, I felt like I had a new best friend! Without the miles & points hobby, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to experience the joy of traveling with my mom.
In this part of the series, I’ll give you my review of the Hyatt Hotel du Louvre, where we stayed in Paris.

Hyatt’s Hotel du Louvre Review
On an earlier trip to Paris, Daraius and I stayed at the Park Hyatt Place Vendome. I loved this hotel, but wanted to try something different. So my mom and I decided to stay at Hyatt’s Hotel du Louvre. Located steps away from the Louvre museum!
The Hotel du Louvre was a wonderful hotel with an unbeatable location. I liked it better than the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome, though it was still in a touristy area. However, it was very central so we could walk to many must-see sights — and the subway line is steps away!
Connie: The stay at the Hyatt Hotel du Louvre Hotel was fabulous to say the least! lt was actually one of the highlights of the trip! The beauty and historical features in the lobby and staircase area were so plush and beautiful. Our room was on the 4th floor with a balcony facing the main circular street. The outside letter “O” in Hotel was affixed on our balcony and at night it was lit up. I loved it!It costs 10,000 Hyatt points plus $100 per night with the cash and points option. Or just 20,000 Hyatt points per night.
Rooms here normally go for ~$665+, and my mom and I stayed in an Executive Suite that costs ~$1,000 per night! So using the points and cash option saved us ~90% off the retail price!
Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome Vs. Hotel du Louvre
If you’re going to Paris, deciding which hotel to stay in will depend on the points you want to use, the location, and your preferred style.
Personally, I like saving my miles, points, and cash when possible. So I prefer the Hotel du Louvre, because it’s less expensive.
Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme | Hotel du Louvre | |
---|---|---|
Points Per Night | 30,000 Hyatt points | 20,000 Hyatt points |
Cash & Points Per Night | 20,000 Hyatt points + ~$290 | 10,000 Hyatt points + ~$100 |
Location | Very Good | Excellent |
Interior Design Style | Modern | Classic French |
I also like the Hotel du Louvre’s location better than the Park Hyatt Paris’, because it’s on the M1 line, and most of Paris’ best sites are off the M1 line!
That said, I usually also prefer modern interior design, but the classical French interior of the Hotel du Louvre made me really feel like I was in Paris!
It was a small hotel, but it had everything you’d need for a comfortable stay. There was a small business center with Apple computers to use.
And the restaurant was large and had great views of the city. I loved people watching as my mom and I enjoyed our breakfast!
Hotel du Louvre Room Overview
The Hotel du Louvre has classic French décor. I liked the elegance of the rooms because they were warm and inviting. However, some of the furnishings were a bit dated.
We were given an Executive Suite with 2 rooms and 1.5 baths. For me, the spacious room and location of the hotel made up for the slightly worn interior.
The suite came with everything we needed. Both bedrooms came with a desk with a small TV.
One of the bedrooms even had its own private entrance!
There were also 2 living areas, which was awesome. My mom really loved the extra space and got up early to read and drink her coffee while I continued sleeping. It was a perfect setup for the two of us!
The bathroom had been updated, and there were a lot of fresh towels ready for us.
There was also a half bath as soon as you walked into the hotel room. It was nice that guests could use it without having to see our stuff sprawled everywhere in the main bathroom!
It was a very basic bathroom though, and definitely needs some love and attention.
Finally, another special part of our stay at the Hotel du Louvre were the gifts the hotel left for my mom, for her birthday.
I had emailed the hotel ahead of time to let them know we were celebrating her birthday, and politely asked if there was anything they could do to make her stay a special one. Because it never hurts to ask!
When we arrived, there was a neat book about Paris’ architecture waiting for her!
And before we left, we received another gift.
Here’s a video of my mom opening the bag!
You Can Do It, Too!
If you chose to stay at a Hyatt hotel and have enough Hyatt points in your account for a free night (or more!), you can easily log-in to your Hyatt account and make the booking.
First, search for your destination and select which hotel you want.
Then, click on “Show Hyatt Gold Passport Points & Awards.”
From there, it’s easy to select your room type and complete your booking!
If you don’t have enough Hyatt points in your account, you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio. It’s super easy to transfer points. I do this regularly for Hyatt and Southwest.
And if you’re looking for ways to get more Hyatt or Chase Ultimate Rewards points, consider the Chase Hyatt card, that comes with 2 free nights at ANY Hyatt hotel. Or a card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Ink Business Preferred, that both offer great sign-up bonuses and perks.
Below are my top recommendations for where you can stay on your next trip to Paris. And how to use various hotel points for free nights!
Hotels
1. IHG
You can book IHG hotels for between 10,000 and 60,000 IHG points per night (or just 5,000 IHG points per night during IHG PointBreaks!). You could stay at the luxurious InterContinental Paris – Le Grand, that costs 60,000 IHG points per night. Or a less expensive IHG hotel, like the Holiday Inn Express : Paris – Canal de la Villette, for only 30,000 IHG points per night.2. Hyatt
Hyatt charges between 5,000 and 30,000 Hyatt points per night. I’ve stayed at the Park Hyatt Vendome Paris before, but liked the hotel and the value for points you get at the Hyatt Hotel du Louvre better. The Hotel du Louvre costs 20,000 Hyatt points per night. But you can also stay in cheaper hotels, like the Hyatt Regency Paris Étoile, that costs 15,000 Hyatt points per night.3. Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, & Starwood
Marriott and Starwood have merged! You can link your accounts, and transfer points between your Marriott and Starwood accounts at a 3:1 ratio. And Marriott and Ritz-Carlton essentially have the same rewards program, just with different branding . So if you collect Marriott or Starwood points, you’ll have lots of options in Paris! It costs between 7,500 and 70,000 Marriott points to stay at a Marriott or Ritz-Carlton hotel. And Starwood hotels charge between 3,000 Starwood points (2,000 points on weekends) and 35,000 Starwood points for a free night. You could stay at the Prince de Galles a Luxury Collection hotel for 30,000 Starwood points (or convert 90,000 Marriott points into Starwood points). And read this post for more ideas about magnificent Paris hotels using Marriott & Starwood points.4. Hilton
There are a decent number of Hilton hotels in Paris, bust most of them are expensive! You can stay at the beautiful Hilton Paris Opera for 80,000 Hilton points per night. But the more affordable Hilton hotels have airport locations. So it might not be worth it!Bottom Line
The Hotel du Louvre was a wonderful hotel with an unbeatable location. It’s less expensive than the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome, where I’ve stayed before. And had a better access to Paris’ most popular sights!
I used Hyatt points I earned from credit card rewards to help offset the cost of the room. And saved lots of money!
I’m so thankful I could treat my mom to such a memorable vacation to Paris. Without the miles and points hobby, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to share the joy of traveling with her!Editorial Note: We're the Million Mile Secrets team.
