The Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card currently has the highest sign-up bonus of any Chase Ultimate Rewards card.  You can earn 80,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after meeting minimum spending requirements.

I’ve asked the Million Mile Secrets team how they’d use this fantastic bonus.  Here’s team member Jasmin!

Jasmin:   Thanks, Daraius!

I haven’t been able to apply for most Chase cards for quite some time because of their strict application rules.  But I’ll be eligible again in May 2018.

The Chase Ink Business Preferred is the first card I’ll sign-up for once I’m under 5/24.  I’m looking forward to earning bonus points for expenses related to my reselling business.  And I’ll transfer the 80,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards point sign-up bonus to one of Chase’s travel partners to use for Big Travel.  But I haven’t yet decided which!

I’d Love to Get Back to Kauai, but It Takes a Lot of Miles and Points to Get There With 3 Kids in Tow! That’s Why I’m Looking Forward to Earning the Chase Ink Business Preferred Sign-Up Bonus

I’ll share a few options I’ve considered for using the Chase Ink Business Preferred sign-up bonus!

What WE Would Do With the Chase Ink Business Preferred 80,000 Point Bonus

Big Family Travel With One Sign-Up Bonus

Because I almost always travel with my 3 kids, we usually fly coach.  The number of points required for 4 Business or First Class tickets is just too prohibitive.  And finding 4 available award seats on the same flight can be a challenge.

Like team member Keith, I’ve gotten the most value from my Chase Ultimate Rewards points by transferring them to airline and hotel partners.  And I’ll do the same with the Chase Ink Business Preferred sign-up bonus!

1.   A Memorable Hyatt Stay in Hawaii

Like Emily and Daraius, Hyatt is my favorite hotel chain.  They’ve always treated me and my family very well.  And because I have Hyatt Explorist status, I get 4 lounge access passes to use every year.

My kids have been to Honolulu (well, not entirely – I was pregnant with my youngest when we traveled there as a family!) and I’d love to return and visit Kauai with them.  I attended a wedding there a couple of years ago (no kids) and spent an incredible night at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, which costs 25,000 Hyatt points per night.

It’s as Amazing as They Say! I Wished the Kids Were With Me When I Stayed at the Grand Hyatt Kauai

Like Daraius and Emily, the Grand Hyatt Kauai blew me away.  The vast and gorgeous property,  multiple pools, lazy river, and waterslide had me wishing the kids were there, too.

I could transfer 75,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt for a 3-night award stay here.  That’s a bit of a splurge, but when you consider paid nights here can cost over $700 depending on the time of year, it’s a very good deal.

Alternately, it’s possible to stretch your points by booking a Hyatt Points + Cash rate.  The Grand Hyatt Kauai costs 12,500 Hyatt points plus $150 per night when you book this way.  So by transferring the Chase Ink Business Preferred sign-up bonus to Hyatt, I’d have more than enough points for 6 Points + Cash nights.

2.   A Last Hurrah at Walt Disney World

The kids were little when we visited Walt Disney World years ago.  And I’m hoping to take them one more time before the magic is lost and my tween girls start rolling their eyes at Mickey Mouse and Cinderella!

Once Upon a Time, We Visited Walt Disney World – and I’d Like to Take the Kids Again Before They Outgrow It

We often use points to fly Southwest because they’re kid-friendly, everyone gets 2 free checked bags, and there are no blackout dates.  And because Southwest points are worth ~1.25 to ~1.43 cents each towards award flights, when Southwest has a fare sale, award ticket prices go down, too.

By transferring the Chase Ink Business Preferred sign-up bonus to Southwest, we’d have more than enough Southwest points for 4 round-trip tickets to Orlando.

The Chase Ink Business Preferred Sign-Up Bonus Would Be More Than Enough to Get the 4 of Us to Orlando for Another Disney Adventure

And if the fare drops after we book, we can always cancel and get our Southwest points back.  Then re-book at the lower rate!

3.   A Visit to Grandpa’s House on the West Coast

My dad lives in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia, so we don’t get to see him often.  But all 3 kids are now old enough to fly as Unaccompanied Minors on most major airlines, so they can visit family on their own!

I used Air Canada Aeroplan miles to fly my daughters unaccompanied on Air Canada from Toronto to Victoria a couple of years ago.  But because United Airlines is also a Star Alliance member, you can use United Airlines miles to book Air Canada award flights.

Traveling Unaccompanied Is an Incredible Adventure and Learning Experience for Kids! I’d Love to Send All 3 to Visit Grandpa in Victoria, British Columbia

By transferring most of the Chase Ink Business Preferred sign-up bonus to United Airlines, we’d have enough for 3 round-trip, non-stop coach award tickets on Air Canada (3 tickets X 25,000 United Airlines miles).  Then the kids could all visit Grandpa together this time (and Mommy could get a break would miss them terribly!) 😉

This is a particularly good deal because paid transcontinental tickets on Air Canada can be very pricey, especially during peak season.

Paid Air Canada Tickets, Especially in Peak Season, Can Cost a Fortune! So Booking Award Flights Using United Airlines Miles Saves a TON of Cash

Note:   Whether it’s a paid or award ticket, Air Canada (and most other airlines) charges an additional fee for Unaccompanied Minors.

When you open the Chase Ink Business Preferred card, you’ll earn 80,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.  You’ll also get:

  • 3X Chase Ultimate Rewards points for every $1 you spend on travel, shipping purchases, internet, cable and phone services, advertising purchases made with social media sites, and search engines (up to a maximum of $150,000 in combined purchases per account anniversary year)
  • 1X Chase Ultimate Rewards points on all other purchases
  • Up to $600 in cell phone insurance when you pay your cell phone bill with the card
  • 25% bonus when you redeem points through the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal
  • Primary auto rental insurance (CDW) when renting for business purposes, plus purchase and extended warranty protection

The card has a $95 annual fee, which is NOT waived the first year.

The Ink Business Preferred card is impacted by Chase’s tighter application rules.

So if you’ve opened 5+ cards from any bank (NOT counting Chase business cards and these other business cards) in the past 24 months, it’s unlikely you’ll be approved for this card.

Bottom Line

With the Chase Ink Business Preferred, you can earn 80,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months after opening your account.

Team member Jasmin hopes to get the card next spring, once she’s under the Chase 5/24 rule.  And there are plenty of ways to use 80,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points for Big Family Travel!

It’s a toss-up between transferring the sign-up bonus to Hyatt for an award stay in Kauai, Southwest for a last hurrah at Walt Disney World, or United Airlines for award flights on Air Canada to visit Grandpa on the West Coast.

But your travel goals might be totally different, and that’s OK!  Because Chase Ultimate Rewards points are so flexible, there are plenty of options whether you want to splurge on luxury travel or stretch your points by using them frugally.

Check out the great condos in the back yard of Hyatt on Kauai.

I have a question… I thought that hyatt gives lounge passes to explorists. You can get suite upgrades too?! Are these vouchers good for one night each or one stay each?

Thanks!!

Million Mile Secrets

You’re correct! You get 4 lounge passes with Explorist status. The suite upgrades are available for folks with Globalist status. The post is now updated.

I’m sure this has been answered before, but I can’t seem to find it. Can you have a second business card for the same business (and how do you explain that to Chase)? I currently have the Ink Bold, but only one business.

The only restriction would be from the underwriters. If you have a credit limit of $5,000 on a business card through Chase, for a business which generates little revenue, then it’s unlikely Chase would issue more credit for the same business.

Million Mile Secrets

Yes, you can have multiple card products open simultaneously (i.e. the Ink Bold and Ink Business Preferred) for the same business. At one time, team member Keith had 3 Chase business cards for his eBay side business.

If the bank asks why, you can tell them the different perks of the 2nd card are helpful for your small business.

What is an explorist suite upgrade?

Million Mile Secrets

Thanks for pointing this out. The suite upgrades are available for folks with Globalist status. Explorist status gets you 4 lounge passes. The post is now updated.
