You’ll earn 80,000 Marriott points after spending $3,000 on purchases within the 1st 3 months of account opening. That’s enough for 2 award nights at some of the best Marriott hotels all over Europe!
And you’ll earn another 7,500 bonus Marriott points when you add an authorized user who makes a purchase within the 1st 3 months of opening your account.
I’ll show you 5 European hotels to experience with Marriott points!
5 Fantastic Marriott Hotels in Europe for Award Stays
Marriott made positive changes to their loyalty program last year. And, you’ll get the 5th night free on any award stay! So if you want to stay longer, it’s an excellent way to save 20% of your points!
I like using Hotel Hustle to find hotels for award stays because it shows you how many points you’ll need for your specific travel dates. And show you if award nights are available at hotels, including Marriott!
Another option is AwardMapper. It shows similar information. But it’s not specific to travel dates and won’t search for available award rooms.
I haven’t personally stayed at these hotels, but they look wonderful! Let me know if you’ve stayed at any of them!
Note: The prices in these examples are based on travel in June 2016.
Note: Some Marriott hotels (especially resorts) add pricey resort fees to paid and award nights. Before you book, check the hotel policy to decide if it’s worth it for you. And here are my tips on how to avoid them!
Marriott hotels include:
- AC Hotels by Marriott
- Autograph Collection Hotels
- Bulgari Hotels
- Courtyard by Marriott
- Delta Hotels
- Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott
- Gaylord Hotels
- JW Marriott
- Marriott Executive Apartments
- Marriott Hotels
- Marriott Vacation Club
- Moxy Hotels
- Protea Hotels
- Renaissance Hotels
- Residence Inn by Marriott
- Springhill Suites by Marriott
- TownePlace Suites by Marriott
Note: There are rumors that starting April 2016, Chase will make it tougher to be approved for ANY of their cards (including airline & hotel cards) if you’ve opened ~5+ credit card accounts with any bank within the past 24 months.
So I recommend folks 1st sign-up for the Chase Sapphire Preferred. Here’s why. But if you already have the Chase Sapphire Preferred or don’t want it, consider this offer for the Chase Marriott Premier. Or the other Chase cards in Hot Deals.
1. Vienna Marriott Hotel
For your stay in Vienna, consider the 5-star Vienna Marriott Hotel. It’s located on famous Ringstrasse, overlooking Stadtpark.
And it’s walking distance to the attractions of Vienna, like Stephansplatz (where you’ll find St. Stephen’s Cathedral), the Vienna Opera, and lots of cafes and shopping!
There are also several metro stops under ~5 minutes away so you can quickly get to other parts of the city, like the Museum Quarter.
Rates here start at ~$392 or 40,000 Marriott points per night. So your 80,000 Marriott point sign-up bonus is worth nearly $800 here!
Vienna also makes a great base for exploring more of Austria, or nearby Slovakia. The train to Bratislava is under an hour!
2. Copenhagen Marriott Hotel
It’s 1 of the top 10 hotels in Copenhagen, according to folks on TripAdvisor.
When I checked, nights here cost ~$438, or 40,000 Marriott points. You could spend 2 nights listening to the siren songs of the mermaids in the harbor with 80,000 Marriott points. And save almost $900!
3. JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa
Nights at the JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa cost ~$500 or 40,000 Marriott points per night. It’s located on its own private island in Venice. Don’t worry, there’s a free shuttle service to get there! 🙂
The island has 4 restaurants and 4 bars to enjoy. And it’s home to the largest spa in Venice.
And when you redeem your 80,000 Marriott points here, you’ll save ~$1,000! This could be perfect as part of a romantic vacation to Italy. Or as its own weekend getaway!
4. Cotton House Hotel, Autograph Collection
The Cotton House Hotel, Autograph Collection has an excellent location for exploring Barcelona. It’s easy walking distance to the shopping and cafes of La Rambla and the Gothic Quarter. You can even walk to the Mediterranean to catch some sun on Barceloneta (Barcelona’s city beach)!
You’ll also have easy access to cultural attractions, like museums and the world-famous Sagrada Familia church, ranked the #1 thing to do in Barcelona on TripAdvisor.
And the hotel gets high marks there, too! Folks love the friendly service and city center location.
This hotel costs ~$643 or 40,000 Marriott points per night. So you can save nearly ~$1,300 when you redeem 80,000 Marriott points here.
I found lots of open dates this summer – tempting for a European summer vacation!
5. Paris Marriott Opera Ambassador Hotel
Paris is always a good choice! Consider staying at the Paris Marriott Opera Ambassador Hotel when you visit.
Nights here cost ~$516 or 40,000 Marriott points. So the 80,000 Marriott points you’ll earn with the Chase Marriott Premier card welcome bonus are worth over $1,000!
Emily and I enjoyed our trip to Paris very much!
The hotel is located near the Opera, which is walking distance to the Paris metro. So you can easily spend time at world-famous Parisian sights, like the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, and Notre Dame Cathedral.
Remember, you can also get the Chase Ritz-Carlton Rewards card. You’ll earn 2 free nights at any Tier 1 to 4 Ritz-Carlton hotel, after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the 1st 3 months of opening your account.
Marriott and Ritz-Carlton are basically the same frequent-guest program (just with different branding and marketing), so you can use your Marriott points to stay at Ritz-Carlton hotels and vice versa.
The $395 annual fee is NOT waived, but it comes with perks and benefits that can easily offset it, like a $300 annual travel credit (which includes reimbursed Global Entry fees, checked luggage, and seat upgrades).
If you like Ritz-Carlton hotels, it’s a fantastic card to have. Here’s my review.
Plus, earn another 7,500 bonus Marriott points when you add an authorized user who makes a purchase within the 1st 3 months of opening your account.
There are lots of fantastic Marriott hotels in Europe that are ideal for a splurge or romantic vacation! 80,000 Marriott points is enough for 2 nights at Marriott Category 8 hotels, like the Cotton House Hotel, Autograph Collection in Barcelona, or the JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa in Venice.
