The Delta Reserve® for Business Credit Card from American Express is an ideal card for frequent Delta flyers.  With a welcome bonus of 40,000 Delta miles and 10,000 Medallion® Qualification Miles after meeting minimum spending requirements, as well as a ton of money-saving perks, it’s a terrific card to consider.

With the AMEX Delta Reserve for Business, you’ll also earn an annual companion certificate each account anniversary which you can use for a free round-trip flight within the mainland US (plus taxes & fees).  Depending on the route, this could be worth hundreds of dollars!

At the very least, the card’s bonus is worth $400 in airfare.  But it can potentially be worth lots more.

Let’s look at what you get with the Delta Reserve for Business card and whether it’s a good fit for your wallet!

Delta Reserve for Business Review, a Great Card for Business Owners (and Leisure Travelers!)

Delta Reserve for Business Card Review – The Bonus Is Worth $500+

Apply Here:  Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card

The Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card is offering a welcome bonus of 40,000 Delta miles and 10,000 Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQMs) after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of opening your account.

Between the intro bonus of 40,000 Delta miles and at least 3,000 miles from meeting the minimum spending, you’ll have 43,000 Delta miles to use toward flights.

Award flights within the US can be a very good deal when you use Delta miles!  Coach flights start at just 5,000 miles one-way.  We always post breakdowns on Delta’s flash sales  to help you find incredible value!  And there are occasionally round-trip awards on sale to Europe for 33,000 Delta miles.

You can squeeze a good amount of travel from the Delta Reserve for Business welcome bonus if you plan your awards!

How to Earn Points With the Delta Reserve for Business Card

With the Delta Reserve for Business, you’ll earn Delta miles for all purchases you make with the card.

There are 2 categories for bonus miles:

  • Earn 2 Delta miles per $1 spent when you use your card for purchases directly with Delta
  • Earn 1 Delta mile per $1 spent on all other purchases

So you’ll earn double miles on your Delta purchases including flights, Delta SkyClub memberships, Delta Vacations packages, seat upgrades, and in-flight purchases of food, beverages, and audio headsets.  All other purchases earn 1 mile per $1 spent.

How to Use Your Points

To redeem your points for award flights, visit the Delta website and search for a flight as you normally would.  Delta no longer has an award chart, so you’ll have to check specific dates and routes for the price of an award flight.

At the top of the flight results there is an option to show the price in currency (the default), miles, or Miles + Cash.  Select the “miles” option and you can see the cost of each flight in miles, plus any fees you will need to cover out of pocket (generally less than $15 for most domestic flights).

You Can Manage and View Your Current Mileage Balance Online, and Find Award Flights By Selecting "Miles" in the Pay Using Section
Here’s How to View Award Flights on Delta.com

Remember, you’ll be able to see Delta flights and flights on their partner airlines.  So you’re not just limited to using your miles for Delta flights!

If you can’t find award flights you want, you can still easily redeem miles using Pay With Miles.  With Pay With Miles, your miles are worth 1 cent each (in increments of 5,000 miles) toward paid Delta flights.  With this method, you won’t have to worry about available award seats or blackout dates.

However, you’ll typically get much better value by redeeming for award flights instead.

Benefits of the Delta Reserve for Business Card

Like other American Express cards, this card is packed with great benefits.  These perks can help make your flights more comfortable and save you time and money!

Concierge for Delta Reserve

A unique concierge just for Delta Reserve cardholders.  Calling the hotline will hook you up with a live agent that can help you book flights, find restaurants, or if you’re just looking for general advice for travel.  You can contact the Concierge at 800-525-3355.

Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQMs)

When you meet the minimum spending requirements on the Delta Reserve® for Business Credit Card from American Express, you’ll also earn 10,000 Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQMs).  These are miles used to qualify for elite status, and can give you a head start (or an added boost) to reaching the next level of status!

For example, to reach Silver Medallion® status you’d need to earn 25,000 Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQMs) and spend $3,000 Medallion® Qualification Dollars (MQDs) in a calendar year.  So earning 10,000 MQMs from the Delta Reserve® for Business Credit Card from American Express is a nice head start!

Delta Sky Club Access

You’ll get complimentary access to Delta airport lounges with your Delta Reserve for Business card.  And up to 2 traveling companions can stop by a Delta lounge for a discounted fee of $29 per person.  The lounges offer complimentary snacks and beverages, high-speed Wi-Fi access, satellite TV, and private restrooms.  If you have a long layover, this can make your wait a lot more enjoyable.

Annual Companion Certificate

Each year, upon renewal of your card, you will receive a digital companion certificate that allows you add a second passenger to your domestic round-trip flight reservation (within the contiguous 48 US states) by only paying the taxes and fees for that passenger.  Depending on the route, you can get incredible value from this benefit!

The companion certificate is earned each account anniversary, and the value of the companion flight can help offset the annual fee, making this one of the best benefits of this card.

Delta SkyMiles Miles Boost

With Miles Boost, you can earn 15,000 bonus miles and 15,000 Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQMs) after you spend $30,000 or more in eligible purchases on the card in a calendar year.  You can even earn an additional 15,000 bonus miles and 15,000 MQMs after spending $60,000 in eligible purchases in a calendar year!

This perk can really boost you toward Medallion® elite status, which offers incredible benefits on Delta flights.  After you earn 25,000 MQMs in a year (plus $3,000 MQDs), you’ll achieve Silver Medallion® Status.

Silver Elite Status offers:

  • Unlimited complimentary seat upgrades to Comfort+ or First Class seating as available 24 hours of departure
  • First checked bag free for you and up to 8 travel companions (already offered by the card)
  • Priority check-in
  • Priority boarding (already offered by the card)
  • Exclusive pricing on a CLEAR membership ($79 per year instead of $179 per year)
  • Priority waitlist for seat upgrades
  • Elite status on SkyTeam partner airlines

For folks who are likely to meet the minimum spending requirements each year for this perk, this is an incredible deal!  Because it not only earns you bonus miles towards more award flights (on top of the bonus miles you earn from normal spending), but it also helps you achieve elite status, which leads to valuable benefits while traveling on Delta flights.

First Checked Bag Free

With the Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card, you’ll get your first checked bag for free on Delta flights for yourself and up to 8 companions traveling on the same reservation.  This normally costs $30 each way ($60 round-trip) per person, so this could be worth up to $540 per round-trip flight if you were traveling with 8 other people (9 travelers x $60 round-trip cost per bag = $540).

If you and your business flies Delta frequently, this perk alone can more than cover the annual fee!

Priority Boarding

You and up to 8 passengers on your reservation can board your flight when Zone 1 Priority Boarding is called.  There’s no question that priority boarding takes a lot of stress and annoyance out of the boarding process.

As overhead space is becoming harder to come by, this also ensures you can find a spot for your carry-on luggage right at your seat.

In-Flight Savings

Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card holders save 20% off eligible Delta in-flight purchases when you use the card.  This includes food and beverage purchases or audio headsets.

The discount is applied in the form of a statement credit equal to 20% of the purchase total that will be credited to your card at the end of the billing cycle.

Extended Warranty

When you make an eligible purchase with the card, the original manufacturer’s warranty can be extended up to 2 additional years on eligible warranties of 5 years or less.  So you’ll save money if you would have otherwise paid for a pricey extended warranty!

Return Protection

If you try to return an eligible item within 90 days of the date of purchase with your Delta Reserve for Business and the merchant won’t take it back, you may be refunded the full purchase price, up to $300 per item and a maximum of $1,000 per year.

It’s nice to have that peace of mind!

AMEX Offers

AMEX Offers are targeted discounts or bonus miles on everyday purchases.  Just add the deal to your card and make an eligible purchase to earn a statement credit or bonus miles!

Is the Delta Reserve for Business Card Worth the Annual Fee?

The annual fee on this card is $450 (See Rates & Fees) which is NOT waived the first year.  Whether or not this is worth it for the long term will depend on the amount of travel you do each year with Delta.

For those who frequently travel on Delta, this card can pay for itself between free checked bags and MQMs which can boost you to the next status tier.  And the companion certificate you earn each year upon renewal will almost always be worth more than the cost of the annual fee.

Active duty military members can get the annual fee waived by American Express, which makes this an incredible deal.

Does the Delta Reserve for Business Card Have a Foreign Transaction Fee?

No.  (See Rates & Fees)

Who Is Eligible for the Delta Reserve for Business Card?

AMEX only allows folks to earn the welcome bonus on a card once, per person, per lifetime.  So if you’ve had this exact card in the past, you won’t be able to earn the intro bonus a second time.

Otherwise, reports online indicate most folks with good credit (at LEAST 700) would be eligible for this card.  Remember that many factors are considered during the application process other than your credit score.  So while your credit score can give you an idea on your approval chances, the bank has the final decision.

We Recommend Building Your Credit and Having a Score Above 700 Before Applying for This Card

You don’t need to own a multi-million dollar company qualify for the Delta Reserve for Business.  Even folks with part-time businesses might be eligible to apply for the card and earn the bonus!

For example, you could apply with your eBay business, Uber driving business, or real estate business using your Social Security number.

Customer Support for the Delta Reserve for Business Card

American Express has a terrific reputation, which means you shouldn’t have any problem getting anything resolved or your questions answered.  Their customer support and fraud protection is among the best in the industry.

Credit Cards Similar to the Delta Reserve for Business Card

The Delta Reserve for Business is a great card for Delta flyers who travel frequently.  But depending on your purchase habits and travel frequency, here are other Delta cards to consider:

  • Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express:   Lower annual fee of $95 per year (waived the first year) (See Rates & Fees), with a welcome bonus of 60,000 bonus miles after spending $2,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening, plus a $50 statement credit after you make a Delta purchase within the first 3 months.  Offer ends April 3, 2019.

Bottom Line

The Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card is a great option for folks and businesses who frequently travel with Delta.  It has a welcome bonus of 40,000 Delta bonus miles and 10,000 MQMs after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account.

This intro bonus can easily be worth $500+ in Delta or partner award flights.  Or at the very least, you can redeem the bonus for $400 in paid Delta flights using Pay With Miles.

If you value Delta elite status and can use money-saving perks like the annual companion certificate, Delta lounge access, and free checked bags, this card is worth the $450 annual fee.  But if you and your business don’t fly Delta frequently, you might consider other AMEX Delta cards with a lower fee.
