INSIDER SECRET: The best metal credit card for easy-to-redeem rewards is the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card.
The much-anticipated Apple Card has been available just a couple of days now. The card sports metal construction and a nifty activation process (just tap your iPhone to the card), but the reality is, the Apple Card isn’t anywhere near the best card for earning rewards for your next vacation. Especially if you’re looking specifically for a metal credit card.
It’s a thing — lots of readers love metal cards. But we want to make sure you’re getting your money’s worth even if your choice is primarily based on the cool factor of the card.
Here are the top brag-worthy metal cards that are worth a spot in your wallet:
- Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card
- Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card
- Chase Sapphire Preferred Card
- The Platinum Card® from American Express or The Business Platinum® Card from American Express
The Best Metal Credit Cards
Best All-Around Metal Card: Capital One Venture
The metal Capital One Venture Rewards card is designed for travelers who like to earn and redeem rewards without having to worry about blackout dates and award charts. With this card you can earn 50,000 Venture miles after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first three months of opening your account. And the annual fee is $95 .
You’ll also get 2 Venture miles per $1 you spend on all purchases.
Compared to the Apple Card, you’ll get a much better earning rate from the Capital One Venture on a majority of purchases. Plus, the welcome bonus on the Capital One Venture card is worth at least $500 in travel.
Here’s our full review of the Capital One Venture card.
Best Metal Card for Dining and Entertainment Enthusiasts
With the Capital One Savor, you’ll earn $300 cash back after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening. In addition to the cash bonus, you’ll earn bonus cash back in certain categories, including 4% cash back on dining, entertainment purchases, and on popular streaming services.
Again, when compared to the Apple Card, the Capital One Savor offers a much better return on your spending. That’s especially true for anyone who spends a lot on dining and entertainment because 4% back on these categories is hard to beat.

Best Metal Card for Miles, Points, and Travel Enthusiasts
With the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, you’ll earn 60,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points when you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening. That’s worth $750 in travel when you redeem points for travel through the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal. And it blows the perks of the Apple Card out of the water.
You’ll also earn 2x Chase Ultimate Rewards points per $1 spent on bonus categories including travel and dining at restaurants. And although the card’s $95 annual fee isn’t waived the first year, the card’s welcome bonus and ongoing benefits more than make up for the fee.

If you qualify for a small-business credit card, you could also consider The Business Platinum® Card from American Express. It’s another nice, heavy metal card you can flash around.
It comes with with a welcome bonus of 85,000 bonus points after you spend $15,000 on eligible purchases in the first three months of account opening. Plus, earn 5X points on eligible U.S. purchases on shipping, wireless telephone services, advertising in select media, office supplies and gas stations, with the card in the first 3 months, up to 80,000 bonus points per category. This card also offers access to benefits much like the personal version of the card, including 5x Amex Membership Rewards points when you book airfare and hotels through the Amex travel portal and 35% of your points back for all first-class or business-class flights booked through the Amex travel portal using Pay With Points.
Either of these metal cards would be a far better choice than the Apple Card, not only for the value you’ll get from the welcome offers but the value of the cards’ ongoing perks, too.
