Because any purchases made on the authorized user’s card will earn Starwood points in your account.

I’ve written about why you might consider adding an authorized user or employee card to your AMEX Starwood card.

Because adding an authorized user can help you meet minimum spending requirements.  Plus, it’s free to add an authorized user.

Additional cardholders can also save money with access to AMEX Offers.

And authorized users or employees can still earn a sign-up bonus, if they decide to sign-up for the AMEX Starwood card in the future.

AMEX will NOT pull a credit report for your authorized user.  Because the primary account holder is responsible for the charges.

As the primary cardholder, any charges made by an authorized user or employee are your responsibility.

But AMEX gives you tools to prevent authorized user spending from affecting your own credit line.  And you can set controls directly on the AMEX website.

For the personal AMEX Starwood card, you can set a spending limit on an authorized user’s card.

And you have a similar option for AMEX small business cards.  You can set a spending limit per billing cycle.
