The AMEX Hilton Aspire Offers an Awesome Perk:  A $250 Resort Credit!

Let’s take a look at some great uses of your $250 Hilton Aspire resort credit!

The Hilton Aspire Resort Credit Is Unbelievably Valuable

When you open the Hilton Honors Aspire Card from American Express, you can earn 150,000 Hilton points after spending $4,000 on purchases within the first 3 months. You can learn more about how to meet credit card minimum spend here.  That’s the highest public offer ever!

It’s not difficult to get a value of at least ~0.5 cents per Hilton point, so you could get $750 in value from the welcome bonus alone!

Plus, you’ll get complimentary Diamond Status which comes with some great perks when you stay with Hilton.  One of my favorites is free breakfast!  I was able to get four breakfast vouchers per day for 4 days at a value of $19 each for a total of $304 over my entire stay.  That benefit alone could offset the annual fee of $450 (See Rates & Fees).

But one of the best perks is the card’s $250 resort credit.

Hilton Aspire $250 Resort Credit

With the AMEX Hilton Aspire Card, you’ll get up to $250 in statement credits per anniversary year when you make eligible purchases at participating Hilton resorts.

It’s very important to recognize that an anniversary (or reward) year is NOT the same as a calendar year.  An anniversary year is generally defined as every twelve-month period starting with your account opening date.  For example, my anniversary year is August through August, whereas the calendar year is usually January 1 to December 31.

You Receive the Resort Credit Every Anniversary Year in the Form of Statement Credits

Eligible purchases include room rates and taxes as well as any incidentals charged directly to your room and paid for with your AMEX Aspire card when you stay at a Hilton Resort.

Yes, you read that right, you can receive your credit for paid room stays!  Just make sure you’re staying at a Hilton resort listed on Hilton’s resort page.  Just because the hotel has “Resort” in its name, doesn’t mean it qualifies; it must be on the Hilton resort page.

“Free” or Discounted Nights at a Hilton Resort

The easiest way to use your $250 resort credit is by charging your room stay to your AMEX Hilton Aspire Card.

For folks who love Disney, you may consider staying at one of the 7 resorts near Disney.  Resorts like the Waldorf Astoria Orlando start at around $300, and the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Orlando at SeaWorld for around $130.

Most hotels offer free shuttles to the nearby parks, like Disney and SeaWorld!

I’m actually using my resort credit at the Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa in early August.  Nightly rates are about $300, so I’ll have to pay out of pocket for whatever my $250 resort credit doesn’t cover.  But the resort is all inclusive so I’ll get food, drinks, and some resort services for free!

There are over 10 all-inclusive Hilton resorts and we have an easy to follow Hilton all-inclusive resorts guide to help you out!  Most, if not all, qualify as a participating Hilton resort.  So the $250 Resort Credit should apply at each location for paid stays and incidental charges.

If your partner has the AMEX Hilton Aspire Card as well, you could split your resort stay across both cards to get up to $500 in statement credits.  A couple of our team members make use of this strategy.

Credits From Incidentals Like Food, Beverages, and Resort Services

The other main way to use your $250 resort credit is by charging incidentals to your room and paying with your AMEX Hilton Aspire Card.

Remember, you must be actively staying at the resort to receive the credit.  You can’t just walk into the resort and pay with your card and receive the credit;  that’s against the terms and conditions.

You Can Use the $250 Resort Credit on Food and Drinks

Food, restaurants, and spa charges at establishments within the Hilton Resort are the best places to use your $250 resort credit.  You could schedule a massage at the resort and have it charged to your room.  Or you could have an amazing dinner at a resort restaurant!  The choice is yours.

Bottom Line

The Hilton Honors Aspire Card from American Express comes with a bunch of great benefits.  But one of the best is the $250 Hilton Aspire resort credit.

You’ll receive this as a statement credit for purchases up to $250 per anniversary year when you stay at one of Hilton’s 232 listed resorts!

Eligible spending includes room rates and taxes, plus incidentals such as food, restaurant, and spa services within resort establishments.

Is it confirmed that the $250 isn’t usable toward a room rate? Thanks!

Never heard of this. If true, i’m quite sure it would be all over the blogs.

Just came across this article. I called AMEX and discovered that as of August 1 of this year the resort credit does NOT apply to the room rate. I did ask her specifically if it would work if I just went to dinner at a resort and paid with the card, and she said yes, although that’s not a guarantee. Since I live not to far from a Hilton resort I’ll try it, worst case I just paid for a dinner.

Hi Ron, not true. Just went to the Conrad Maldives in September 2019 and room rate, tax, and incidentals got charged and reimbursed.

Thanks Ron for the data point!

Are you sure it is based on anniversary date?

It’s very important to recognize that an anniversary (or reward) year is NOT the same as a calendar year. An anniversary year is generally defined as every twelve-month period starting with your account opening date. For example, my anniversary year is August through August, whereas the calendar year is usually January 1 to December 31.

I just had the following chat with AmEx:

AmEx: “I have checked the terms about resort credit. It says “During each year of Card Membership, Card Members are eligible to receive statement credits of up to $250 in total on their Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card Account for any eligible purchases with their Card made directly at a participating Resorts in the Hilton portfolio. A statement credit will automatically be applied to the account approximately 8-12 weeks after the Hilton Resort charges are posted”

me: “So that means the $250 Hilton Resort credit can be applied any time during the year?”

AmEx: “Absolutely Correct. Eligible Hilton Resort purchases must be made directly with the participating Hilton Resort and charged to the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card for the benefit to apply. Card Members receive up to $250 back as a statement credit(s) for eligible purchases made directly with the resort property, including room rates and incidental charges (including charges made at restaurants, spas, and other establishments within the hotel property) Incidental charges must be charged to the hotel room and paid for with the Hilton Honors Aspire Card at checkout in order for them to be recognized as Hilton Resort purchases.”

So what is it, calendar year or anniversary year?

Hi, I copied the below statements from their terms and conditions. Anniversary year applies, NOT calendar year. Hope this clears it up!

“Your first reward year begins on your account opening date. Each subsequent reward year begins on the anniversary of your account opening date.”

Shaina Mazzio

Hi, quick question please: does the $250 statement credit have to be used all in one consecutive stay, or could you say use $200 of it if you were staying at one of the cheaper resorts, and then use the remaining $50 somewhere else? (as long as you’re within your same anniversary year of course) Thank you in advance and awesome article!!

Hi Shaina,

Based on reports from others in online forums, you can spread it across multiple transactions.

Since your anniversary year is in August is it possible to use the $250 perk twice on the same stay if you timed it right?
