Pardon my ignorance, I’m new here.  Can you transfer US Bank FlexPoints to airline frequent flyer programs, or only book travel through US Bank?

No apology necessary, PDXoptions!  I’m glad you asked.

You can NOT transfer US Bank FlexPoints to other loyalty accounts, like airlines and hotels.  They can only be redeemed through the US Bank website.  But they can still be valuable!

I’ll explain what makes these points different!

US Bank FlexPoints Are Far From Worthless

US Bank FlexPoints do NOT transfer to other loyalty programs.  But they can still get you Big Travel with Small Money!

You can redeem your FlexPoints for lots of travel options, including:

  • Hotel stays

There’s More Than 1 Way to Lower Your Travel Expenses
FlexPoints can be worth as much as 2 cents per point when you redeem them for airfare.  But you can also redeem them for gift cards, statement credits, and merchandise for 1 cent per point.

Not All Points Are the Same!

FlexPoints are similar to miles earned by cards like the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card and Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite Mastercard. FlexPoints have an advantage over airline and hotel points:  You do NOT have to search for award seats or worry about blackout dates!  Plus, you’ll earn points with the airline or hotel after you make a reservation.  That’s because when you pay with FlexPoints, the airlines and hotels treat it as a cash purchase.

So, if you’re looking to fly during busy travel times, or if you’re traveling in a group, these kinds of points could be a great option.  Every seat on the plane is fair game with FlexPoints!

But…FlexPoints are still NOT as flexible as Citi ThankYou Points, American Express Membership Rewards points, Starwood points, and Chase Ultimate Rewards points.  These programs give you the option to buy travel directly with points OR transfer points to airline and hotel partners.

Note:   Applying for US Bank FlexPerks cards is NOT a good idea if PDXoptions is just starting out.  That’s because Chase has been tightening their credit card application policies since the last half of 2015.  For this reason, PDXoptions should consider applying for Chase cards first, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred.  Then move on to cards from other banks.

Bottom Line

You can redeem your US Bank FlexPoints for lots of travel options, including airfare, hotels, and car rental.

Sometimes it can be difficult to find award airline fights or hotel award stays.  That’s where US Bank FlexPoints can help.  You can book any hotel room or any airplane seat with FlexPoints.

If you’re new to this hobby, credit cards that earn FlexPoints are NOT the best cards for starting out.  Because Chase has been tightening their credit card application policies, so you’ll want to get better cards with higher sign-up bonuses and more flexible points first.

How have the US Bank FlexPoints helped you achieve Big Travel with Small Money?
