Folks looking to get Big Travel with Small Money might consider the Citi Prestige card.  Because for a limited time, you can earn 75,000 Citi ThankYou points after spending $7,500 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.

That’s a large minimum spending requirement.   But the points you’ll earn from the sign-up bonus AND minimum spending are worth over $1,000 toward airfare when you book through the Citi ThankYou travel portal.

And you can potentially get even more value from your flexible Citi ThankYou points by transferring them directly to airline partners like Singapore Airlines.

Don’t forget this card also comes with $250 in annual statement credits for flight-related purchases, like airfare and baggage fees.  And the 4th night free perk for paid hotel stays can potentially save you thousands of dollars!

When you open the Citi Prestige card, you’ll earn 75,000 Citi ThankYou points after you spend $7,500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.  This is the highest public offer I’ve seen for this card!

You’ll also get:

  • 3 Citi ThankYou points per $1 you spend at airlines, hotels, and travel agencies
  • 2 Citi ThankYou points per $1 you spend at restaurants and select entertainment (includes movie theaters, amusement parks, tourist attractions)
  • $250 annual statement credit for airline fees such as airfare and baggage fees appearing on your statement from December to the following December
  • $100 statement credit for Global Entry application fee
  • Priority Pass Select membership
  • 4th night free when you book 4 consecutive nights at any hotel through the Citi ThankYou Travel Portal or Citi Prestige Concierge
  • No foreign transaction fees
Citi Prestige Credit Card Review 2017
The Citi Prestige Gets You a Priority Pass Select Membership, so You Can Enjoy Access to 1,000+ Airport Lounges! And Your Immediate Family or 2 Guests Can Join You for Free!

The card has a $450 annual fee, which is NOT waived the first year.  But the annual credit for airline purchases, Global Entry credit, and airport lounge access can more than offset the annual fee!

Million Mile Secrets team member Scott likes that Citi Prestige cardholders can bring immediate family members OR 2 guests to Priority Pass lounges at no extra charge.  He was able to treat his parents to food and drinks at the Wingtips Lounge in New York (JFK) when they all flew together.  This perk saved them money because they didn’t have to purchase overpriced food at the airport!

If you have an existing Citi banking relationship, you might be eligible to save $100 off the annual fee expense.  But you must be a Citigold or Citi Priority customer.  If you qualify, you’ll automatically see a $350 annual fee instead of $450 on your first statement, even if you apply through this Citi Prestige offer link!

What Can You Do With 82,500 Citi ThankYou Points?

Link:   How to Transfer Citi ThankYou Points to Airlines

After meeting the minimum spending requirements on the Citi Prestige, you’ll have at least 82,500 Citi ThankYou points (75,000 point sign-up bonus + at least 7,500 points from minimum spending).  Keep in mind, you’ll earn even more points if any of your minimum spending is in the 2X or 3X bonus spending categories.

You have many options for redeeming your flexible Citi ThankYou points !  You’ll typically get the most value for your points by transferring them directly to these airline partners:

Citi ThankYou points transfer at a 1:1 ratio with all of the above partners except JetBlue (5:4 ratio).

Here are 2 examples of how you can redeem the Citi Prestige sign-up bonus and minimum spending points!

1.   Straightforward Redemptions Through the Citi Travel Portal

A simple way to redeem Citi ThankYou points is for airfare through the Citi travel portal.  You’ll get 1.25 cents per point when you book airfare through the travel portal.  This makes 82,500 Citi ThankYou points worth ~$1,031 in airfare.

Team member Keith likes to use Citi ThankYou points to book JetBlue Mint Business Class airfare through the Citi travel portal.  Because you can avoid blackout dates booking this way!

Use Citi ThankYou Points Linked to Your Citi Prestige to Book Comfortable JetBlue Mint Business Class Airfare!

You can also book hotels, rental cars, and cruises through the Citi travel portal.  But you’ll only get 1 cent per point for these redemptions.

2.   Two Round-Trip Award Flights to Hawaii

You can transfer Citi ThankYou points directly to Singapore Airlines.  Then, book an award flight to Hawaii on Star Alliance partner United Airlines.

You’ll actually get a better deal using Singapore Airlines miles to fly on United Airlines to Hawaii than you would booking directly through United Airlines.  A round-trip coach award ticket costs 35,000 Singapore Airlines miles.

With the 82,500 Citi ThankYou points you’ll have after earning the Citi Prestige sign-up bonus and meeting minimum spending requirements, you’ll have more than enough points for 2 round-trip award flights!  And you’ll still have 12,500 Citi ThankYou points leftover!

With the Citi Prestige Sign-Up Bonus & Minimum Spending Points, You’ll Have More Than Enough for 2 Round-Trip Coach Award Flights to Hawaii! Just Transfer Points to Singapore Airlines and Book a United Airlines Award Flight

Once you’ve transferred your Citi ThankYou points, call Singapore Airlines at 800-742-3333 to book.

Besides the huge sign-up bonus, the Citi Prestige has other great perks for folks who book paid travel.

For example, Citi Prestige cardholders can get a statement credit for the 4th night on paid hotel stays, based on the average nightly cost of your stay (excluding taxes), at nearly any major hotel chain, independent hotel, or hostel.  You just have to book your stay by calling the Citi Concierge or through the Citi travel portal.

You can read my step-by-step guide to calling Citi Concierge to book paid hotel stays.

This amazing perk can easily make the Citi Prestige worth the annual fee.  For example, team member Keith has saved more than $2,800 with the 4th night free perk since getting the Citi Prestige in March 2016.

My Wish List for the Citi Prestige & Drawbacks of the 75,000-Point Offer

The Citi Prestige is a top contender when you compare it to other premium credit cards like The Platinum Card® from American Express and Chase Sapphire Reserve.

It would be even better if the Citi Prestige had more US based airline transfer partners.  Keep in mind, it’s possible to transfer Citi ThankYou points to some current partners for US award flights by taking advantage of airline alliances.  But it would be more straightforward if you could transfer points directly to an airline like American Airlines.

If American Airlines Was a Citi ThankYou Airline Transfer Partner, the Citi Prestige Would Be Even Better!

And the current limited time 75,000-point sign-up bonus is terrific.  But the drawback is you’ll have to spend $7,500 in 3 months to unlock the sign-up bonus.  That said, you can check out my list of 40+ ways to meet minimum spending requirements.

Some Million Mile Secrets team members use Plastiq to complete minimum spending requirements.  While you’ll pay a convenience fee to use the service, you can make monthly rent or mortgage payments using your Citi Prestige, which you normally might not be able to!

Bottom Line

The Citi Prestige card has the highest public sign-up bonus I’ve seen!

You can earn 75,000 Citi ThankYou points after spending $7,500 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.  The points you earn from the sign-up bonus and minimum spending are worth $1,000+ toward airfare when you book through the Citi travel portal.  And potentially much more if you transfer points directly to airline partners like Singapore Airlines.

Besides the huge sign-up bonus, this card comes with $250 in annual statement credits for airline purchases.  And you can use the 4th night free perk to potentially save thousands of dollars on paid hotel stays!
