Update: Discover Deals is no longer available as of November 1, 2018.Good news for folks with the Discover it® Cash Back card! From October 1, 2016, through December 31, 2016, you can get 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases at Amazon, department stores, and Sam’s Club, when you activate the bonus. But you can’t register your card just yet.
Plus, I’ll explain how new Discover cardholders can earn up to $150 back for that spending.
Here’s more about Discover’s 4th quarter bonus.

Discover just announced the 4th quarter bonus categories for the Discover it Cash Back card. And from October 1, 2016, through December 31, 2016, you’ll earn 5% back at Amazon, Sam’s Club, and department stores, on up to $1,500 in combined purchases.
This means you can get up to $75 cash back for ordering items on Amazon, buying groceries from Sam’s club, or even grabbing a Christmas gift for grandma at a department store! 😉
Plus you can earn even more cash back using the Discover Deals Shopping Portal, which often pays the highest cash back!
New Cardmembers Earn Even More
You’ll earn a $50 sign-up bonus with the Discover it Cash Back card after making a purchase within the first 3 months of opening your account.
And if you’re a new cardmember, Discover will automatically match all the cash back you’ve earned at the end of your first year on your credit card. And apply the match after the first 12 consecutive billing cycles within the following 2 billing cycles.
So you can effectively earn 10% cash back on rotating bonus categories on up to $1,500 in spending per quarter ($150 per quarter). And the $50 sign-up bonus will be matched too! That’s a great deal!
For folks who already have the card, you’re eligible to get a 2nd card if you’ve had the 1st card at least 1 year.
Is the Discover it Cash Back the Best Cash Back Card Option?
The Discover it Cash Back card is a great no-annual-fee card for folks who like cash back.
But I prefer the Chase Freedom card because it also has 5X rotating bonus categories, and you can use the Chase Ultimate Rewards points you earn for Big Travel instead of just cash back.
Because if you have the Freedom card and the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Ink Plus, or Ink Bold (no longer available), you can get more from your points by transferring them to travel partners.
Through the end of 2016, you can earn 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points on up to $1,500 in spending each quarter at Costco, BJ’s, AND Sam’s Club when you activate the bonus.Don’t forget, if you’re new to this hobby, I recommend getting any Chase cards you want first because of Chase’s stricter approval rules.
