Through December 11, 2017, you’ll get 30% more Air Canada Aeroplan miles when you transfer enough points to earn at least 5,000 Aeroplan miles from these hotel programs:

We see this deal a few times a year.  And this isn’t the highest transfer bonus we’ve ever seen.  But depending on your travel goals, it might make sense to take advantage of it.

Is It Worth It?

Normally, I do NOT recommend converting hotel points into airline miles.  Because for most hotel points, the exchange rate isn’t good.  For example, Choice Hotels points convert into Aeroplan mile at only a 5:1 ratio.

And unlike past promotions, Marriott Hotel + Air packages are specifically excluded from this deal.

But if you have hotel points that you can’t use for a hotel stay this could be a good way to get some value out of those points.  Just remember, you’ll have to transfer enough hotel points to equal a minimum of 5,000 Air Canada Aeroplan miles.

So, for example, this deal might make sense if you transfer 20,000+ Starwood points, because Starwood points transfer at a 1:1 ratio to Air Canada.  And if you transfer 20,000 Starwood points to any airline, you’ll get a 5,000 mile bonus!  When you combine that with this deal you could get a transfer ratio of ~1:1.6.

Air Canada is a member of the Star Alliance.  So Aeroplan miles are great if you’re looking to book an award flight on a Star Alliance airline, like United Airlines.

Bottom Line

Until December 11, 2017, you’ll get a 30% bonus when transferring hotel points to Air Canada Aeroplan miles.  You have to convert enough hotel points for 5,000 Air Canada Aeroplan miles to get the bonus.  So you’ll earn a minimum of 6,750 Aeroplan miles if you take advantage of this deal.

This isn’t the best transfer bonus that we’ve seen from Air Canada.  And since the bonus does not apply to Marriott Hotel + Air packages, I wouldn’t recommend taking advantage of it unless you have a particular trip in mind.

Let me know if this helps your future travel plans!
