If you’ve got some big Amazon purchases coming up, this is the deal for you.  You can save 20% off your order (up to $100) when you pay with at least 1 AMEX Membership Rewards point.  That’s it!  This deal looks like it’s targeted, but I was able to sign-up easily.

To qualify for this deal, you’ll need to have a card that earns AMEX Membership Rewards points linked to your Amazon account, like The Platinum Card® from American Express.

I’ll share with you the key terms of the offer.  And if you don’t want to miss out on deals like this in the future, subscribe to our newsletter.

Just 1 AMEX Membership Rewards Point Can Save You Up to $100

Save at Amazon With AMEX Membership Rewards

The deal officially ends on December 23, 2018.  But Amazon can end the promotion at any time.

To earn the discount you must:

  • Click the “Click to activate” button found here (you’ll need to be signed in to your Amazon account)
  • Spend on eligible products (sold & shipped by Amazon)
  • Use at least 1 AMEX Membership Rewards point from an eligible linked card to pay for the purchase

You will see the 20% savings applied at check out.  And remember that normally paying for Amazon purchases with AMEX Membership rewards points is bad deal.  AMEX points are more valuable when you transfer them to travel partners.  But in this case, using a single point to earn 20% off is a no-brainer!

This discount doesn’t apply to digital content.  And the discount may not be used for Amazon gift cards.  It’s possible you may get it to work for other gift cards, but I’m not certain on that.  So if you’re able to apply this offer to 3rd-party gift cards please let me know in the comments.

Other AMEX Membership Rewards credit cards that qualify for this deal are:

You can also save on Amazon purchases with this offer using Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

As others have noted, when trying to initially activate the offer, I get the message: “Thank you for your interest in this offer. Unfortunately, you are not eligible for this invitation-only offer.”

I wonder what the qualification is. I have the Amex Gold Card. Anyone else have luck with this offer using this card?

Try not to feel too bad. I have the AMEX platinum, Gold, blue cash everyday, clear, and blue business plus. I was not targeted for this offer.

I wonder if it’s based on certain spending patterns, or other geographical/demographic criteria.

Amazon response was “not eligible for this offer”. Their fault or yours?

This offer is targeted, so it looks like Amazon didn’t target your account with the deal.

Check to make sure the item is sold by Amazon. If it is a third-party seller, it won’t apply.

I don’t see any $100 off at the checkout. Is this deal for real?

Author

The deal is for 20% off your order (qualifying items only – sold and shipped by Amazon) up to $100 back. To get the discount you’ll need to pay with an eligible AMEX card and at least 1 AMEX Membership Rewards point at checkout.

The author of this post says even though it was a targeted offer he was able to sign up easily. When I clicked on it it said I was not eligible. No help from Amazon customer service. How do I sign up?

Author

If you’re not targeted, then you won’t be able to sign-up. Some folks have had success reaching out to Amazon customer service to get the offer added, but it looks like that didn’t work for you.

Item has to be sold from Amazon, not a third-party seller.

Amazon says I’m not eligible for this offer but no explanation offered.
