Did you know that the best travel credit cards can simultaneously be the best credit cards for online shopping?

You can redeem flexible points such as Chase Ultimate Rewards, Amex Membership Rewards, and Citi ThankYou points on Amazon to offset your final bill. This is almost always a horrendous idea, because your points are worth far less than you can get if you spend them on travel (check out our Guides page to learn the best ways to use your points). You’ll typically get between 0.6 and 1 cent each for your points when you redeem them for Amazon purchases.

However, now and again a super valuable promotion will appear that can make just a single point worth $50+! And there are a few great offers like that right now. This pairs fantastically with Amazon Prime Day, Oct. 13-14, 2020. That’s now, FYI.

Here’s how to save even more with Amazon Prime Day if you’ve got Chase, Amex, or Citi credit cards.

Amazon Prime Day is finally here!

Combine these Amazon Pay With Points promos with Amazon Prime Day

Amazon Prime Day is an exclusive holiday of sorts for Amazon Prime account holders. If you’re one of the many looking for great deals today and tomorrow, the following strategies will help you save significantly more.

To activate some of the below offers, you may have to connect your Chase, Amex or Citi accounts to Amazon before seeing the shop with points deals.

Citi

When you add $50+ to your Amazon shopping cart, you will receive a $20 discount by paying in part with Citi ThankYou points. Click here to activate the deal.

Even if you apply just a single point to your order and pay the rest with cash, you’ll trigger this deal. That means one Citi ThankYou point is worth $20! There are some quirks you should be aware of, however:

  • Not available to cardmembers who have previously used Citi ThankYou Points to shop at Amazon in the past 12 months.
  • Promotion ends on October 14, 2020, or when 10,000 customers have redeemed this offer, whichever comes first
  • Eligible purchases exclude taxes, shipping, gift wrapping, etc.
  • Limit one promotion per account
  • Only applies to eligible products sold by Amazon.com

You can earn Citi ThankYou points quickly with cards like the Citi Premier® Card and Citi Prestige® Card.

The information for the Citi Prestige has been collected independently by Million Mile Secrets. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

American Express

American Express is targeting shoppers to use just one Amex Membership Rewards point and receive up to $50 off your Amazon order. You may try clicking here to see if you’re eligible — but you’ll likely find these deals as ads at checkout instead of the promotion landing page.

There are a few targeted deals — here’s what we (or our fellow points bloggers) have seen:

  • Spend $100, get $50 back
  • Spend $80, get $20 back
  • Spend $50, get $10 back

If you’re targeted, simply use just one Amex Membership Rewards point at checkout, and the savings should be immediate. This promotion makes one Amex point worth up to $50!

You can earn Amex points with credit cards like the American Express® Gold Card and The Platinum Card® from American Express.

Chase

If you’ve got a Chase Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card or an Amazon Prime Store Card, you’re eligible for up to 25% off many items that are already heavily discounted. You can click here for the details, but here’s what you need to know:

  • You must have an active Amazon Prime account
  • This discount is valid through October 18, 2020
  • Promotion excludes purchases made through Subscribe and Save, Installments, Prime Wardrobe, and Amazon Fresh
  • Discount includes the 5% cash back earned on Amazon.com purchases with your Amazon Prime Card

You can even receive 25% back on video games and related gift cards. Click here for the details.

Additionally, you can use one Chase Ultimate Rewards point to save $15 on a purchase of $50 or more at Amazon. Ultimate Rewards points are earned from products like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and the Chase Sapphire Reserve®. You can click here to activate the offer.

Bottom line

Amazon Prime Day offers some ridiculous discounts. And if you know how to stack miles and points deals, you can dramatically lower your bill even further. If you’ve got at least one Citi ThankYou point, Chase Ultimate Rewards point or Amex Membership Reward point, you could save up to $50 at checkout!
