Amazon Citi ThankYou point promotion

You’ll need to have an eligible Citi ThankYou-point earning credit card registered with Amazon Shop with points to qualify for the deal. The promotion is available for purchases made through Dec. 31, 2020.

You can see if you qualify for the offer and activate it here.

Make sure to add it to your card quickly as the promotion does have a redemption cap and may not be around for as long as advertised.

Once you’ve activated the promotion, shop like you normally would. During checkout, choose your Citi ThankYou-point-earning credit card as your payment method and choose to apply points, but make sure you enter “.01” in the box to use just one point.

Just like with the other Amazon credit card deals with Chase, Amex and Discover, only items sold and shipped by Amazon (and not by a third-party seller) will qualify and digital content doesn’t count. That being said, you should be able to apply this discount to almost everything else found on Amazon.

One of the best parts of this deal is that you can use it to save on many third-party gift cards sold by Amazon, think Whole Foods, Starbucks, Southwest Airlines, Best Buy, Uber Eats and more. So even if you don’t have anything to buy from Amazon right now, it could make sense to stock up on gift cards before the deal goes away.

It’s important that you use no more than one ThankYou point when checking out. That’s because after you’ve triggered the initial $20 discount, using Citi ThankYou points to cover any more of the Amazon order becomes an extremely bad deal. You’ll get way more value when redeeming ThankYou points for travel.

Read this article for step by step instructions to make sure you don’t accidentally spend all your points at Amazon with this deal.

Citi cards that earn ThankYou points

Here are the best Citi cards with which you can earn Citi ThankYou points:

And if you have any of the cards above, you can convert the rewards you earn with the Citi® Double Cash Card to ThankYou points, too.

Bottom Line

Using credit card points for Amazon orders is usually a bad deal, but with these promotions, you can get big value when using just one point (Amex currently has a similar deal). It’s really a no brainer if you have any extra ThankYou points lying around.
