New triple-points offer for the Amex Business Green Card — but there are better options for earning Amex Membership Rewards points

Update: One or more card offers in this post are no longer available. Check our Hot Deals for the latest offers.

The Amex Business Green Rewards Card has gotten a makeover, with an interesting intro offer and an increased earning rate on travel purchases. Now, through Nov. 6, 2019, you can earn 3x Amex Membership Rewards points on these combined eligible purchases (up to $50,000) made in the first three months of account opening:

  • U.S. restaurants
  • Hotel stays booked directly with the hotel
  • Airfare purchased directly from the airline

In addition to that intro offer, you’ll also earn 3x American Express points on all travel booked through the Amex travel site and 1X points on all other purchases. The Amex Business Green card has a $95 annual fee (see rates and fees). The information for the Amex Business Green has been collected independently by Million Mile Secrets. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Previously, this card had an intro offer of 5,000 Amex points after making your first purchase, and only earned 2x points on travel booked through the Amex site. So the new benefits make the card slightly more valuable, but there are still much better Amex card options.

If you’re going to spend the full $50,000 (in three months) on travel you’re likely to be better off applying for the American Express® Business Gold Card or the Amex Business Platinum card. The Business Platinum card currently has an increased offer of 100,000 Amex points after you spend $25,000 in qualifying purchases in the first three months of account opening and it earns 5x Amex points on flights and prepaid hotels booked through the Amex travel site. The Amex Business Gold card earns 4x Amex points (on up to $150,000 in combined purchases each calendar year, then 1x) in the top two of these categories you spend in each month:

  • Airfare purchased directly from airlines
  • U.S. purchases for advertising in select media (online, TV, radio)
  • U.S. purchases made directly from select technology providers of computer hardware, software, and cloud solutions
  • U.S. purchases at gas stations
  • U.S. purchases at restaurants
  • U.S. purchases for shipping

Personally, I also consider The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express to be a better card; it earns 2x Amex points on all purchases (up to $50,000 a year, then 1x).
