Million Mile Secrets team member Joseph is (likely) heading to Panama for his next trip.  I asked him to tell you how he decided upon his destination!

Joseph:   I always anticipate the new IHG PointBreaks hotel list every few months.  That’s because you can book hotels all over the world for just 5,000 IHG points a night.  And IHG points are easy to earn!

I was especially looking forward to this latest PointBreaks list, because it’s been a while since I’ve traveled.  I decided to let the PointBreaks list decide my next travel destination.

Sometimes it can be fun to chase great sales and promotions, and let the deals decide where you travel!

How to Book IHG PointBreaks Hotels

We see amazing travel deals all the time.  It’s usually cheap airfare, like $328 round-trip flights to Singapore, or $400 round-trip flights to Europe.  But sometimes it’s other things, like an all-inclusive Caribbean hotel for $26 per night, or IHG PointBreaks hotels!

It can be fun to let deals steer your journey.  You might fall in love with places you’d never have gone otherwise.

For example, I jumped on a $208 round-trip ticket from New York to Abu Dhabi during Etihad’s famous Christmas Day mistake fare afternoon a couple years ago.  And it was AWESOME.

Fun Memories Can Come From Following the Deals. Like Dubai’s Indoor Ski Slope!

The current PointBreaks list isn’t great, but there was 1 destination that interested me: Panama City.

I’ve never been to a Spanish-speaking country, so I decided to book the Crowne Plaza Panama Airport.  I want to improve my Spanish, but I’ve always been self-conscious talking to native speakers.

Most Spanish folks in my area speak at least some English.  So instead of exercising my Spanish, I usually chicken out and speak English to them.

I’d like to go somewhere that does NOT give me that option.  Somewhere I’ll be forced to stumble through my Spanish.  Hopefully I’ll find what I’m looking for in Panama!

The Best IHG PointBreaks Hotel Sell Out Quickly

I booked my hotel stay immediately after the hotel promotion went live.  I’ll figure out my flights later!  PointBreaks hotels are easy to book and you can cancel them for free, so if there are no cheap flights or award seats to Panama for my dates, I can cancel and wait to use my points for a later deal.

I plan to use either American Airlines miles or Citi ThankYou points from my Citi Prestige to fly on American Airlines (while each point is still worth 1.6 cents for American Airlines flights).

You can earn 60,000 IHG points by opening the Chase IHG card and meeting minimum spending requirements.  And even folks who have opened 5+ cards in the past 24 months can be approved!

Bottom Line

Don’t be afraid to let a deal decide your travel path!  There are exciting qualities in every place.  So if it’s cheap, why not go?

I used the current IHG PointBreaks list to plan my next travel destination.  I booked the Crowne Plaza Panama Airport for 5,000 IHG points per night.  And because the rooms sell for $100+ per night, I received a value of ~2 cents per point ($100 per night / 5,000 IHG points).

Have you followed a deal to a destination you wouldn’t have otherwise visited?
