For folks with The Platinum Card® from American Express, ~1 minute of your time could be worth hundreds of dollars in savings or benefits.  Simply searching and booking your next paid hotel stay through the AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts website could get you valuable perks, like room upgrades, free breakfast, and dining or spa credits.

I have the The Business Platinum® Card from American Express and recently booked a 2-night stay at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.  The room rate through AMEX Fine Hotels was the same as booking directly through the hotel.  And I received $100 in dining credit, free breakfast (worth $60 per day), and a room upgrade (worth $40 per night).

Book Stays at Hotels Like the Bellagio in Las Vegas Through AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts! The Cost Is Similar to Booking Directly and You’ll Get Extra Perks, Like Free Breakfast & Resort or Dining Credits

I used to shy away from checking AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts.  Because I thought it was exclusively for outrageously expensive luxurious hotels that are out of my price range.  But it’s possible to find moderately priced hotels, too!

Another nice aspect of booking through AMEX Fine Hotels is you can make use of your elite status.  For example, I have Platinum status with Marriott.  So if I book a stay at one of these chains through AMEX Fine Hotels, I’ll still earn valuable bonus points!  This isn’t the case when booking through the regular AMEX travel portal.

Why Consider AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts?

To access the AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts program, you must have an eligible AMEX Platinum Card ( or small business version).  There are 975+ hotels that participate in the program.

When you book through AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts, you’ll get:

  • Early check-in (if available)
  • 4:00 pm guaranteed late check-out
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi
  • A benefit unique to your hotel, like a $100 dining credit, free meal, or spa service
  • Free daily breakfast for 2
  • Room upgrade (if available)
  • 3rd or 4th night free at certain hotels

I like that it’s possible to combine an AMEX Fine Hotels reservation with other deals, like AMEX Offers.  For example, during the time of my stay at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, there was an AMEX Offer on my Business Platinum card to earn 7,500 AMEX Membership Rewards points after spending $500 at an MGM brand hotel.  So I earned easy bonus points just by adding the offer to my card!

If you’re a big spender or looking to splurge on a once-in-a-lifetime experience, AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts is definitely worth looking into.  During our stay in Las Vegas, we were able to tour the Skylofts at MGM Grand.  These 1 and 2-bedroom lofts are unlike any hotel room I’ve ever seen!  And so are the prices at $1,500+ per night.

Here’s a short video walkthrough of the living and dining area of a 1-bedroom loft.

If you’re willing to spend that much on a paid hotel stay at a hotel that’s part of AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts, you might as well get the extra perks like late check-out and a dining credit.

Folks planning a special getaway, like a honeymoon, might find the potential room upgrade perk especially useful and valuable.  For example, last year my wife and I took an anniversary trip to the One & Only Palmilla in Los Cabos, Mexico.  We paid for the basic room type, but got an upgrade to a large suite with a plunge pool.  We would have had to pay $400+ more per night if we initially booked the plunge pool suite.

If You’re Planning a Stay at an Independent Luxury Hotel, Consider Booking Through AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts to Increase Your Chances of Securing a Room Upgrade

And independent hotel chains like the One & Only don’t have a loyalty program, which makes it harder (or even impossible) to get an upgrade.  So booking through AMEX Fine Hotels can increase your chances of staying in a better room or suite type, which is ideal if you’re celebrating a special occasion!

Bottom Line

If you’re an AMEX Platinum cardholder planning a paid hotel stay, I recommend researching options through AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts.

Depending on the hotel and your travel dates, you can find room rates similar to what you’d get booking directly.  But you’ll also automatically get to enjoy valuable perks, like dining or resort credits, free breakfast, room upgrades, and guaranteed 4:00 pm late check-out.

Plus, it’s possible to combine your AMEX Fine Hotels reservation with other deals, like AMEX Offers.  Registering for a recent deal when staying at the Bellagio in Las Vegas allowed me to earn an easy 7,500 bonus AMEX Membership Rewards points!

Yes think of all the money we can save by learning about $1500 hotel rooms which we can get for the bargain-basement price of only $1450, plus a free egg or two. Wow!

$150 per night at the Bellagio with all the same free perks was good enough for me. No need to spend $1,500 per night.
