A couple days ago, IHG announced a new hotel brand named Avid, which they plan to open in 2019. It has loud colors and an unconventional design. The new brand looks to target a millennial crowd.

According to IHG, Avid is a “high-quality mid-scale brand.” It’s a no-frills hotel, similar to the Hyatt House brand, that is marketed to cost ~$15 less than a Holiday Inn Express hotel. Hopefully it will cost fewer points, too!
Avid hotels will be modern and minimalist, and looks to be for a more youthful crowd. The brand seems to promote a social aspect to help travelers connect, with an open floor work and communal spaces.IHG uses a lot of fancy words to describe the brand, but it doesn’t look like it offers anything unique from other IHG brands. The most exciting feature of the hotel to me was the free breakfast!
That said, I’m all for more hotels I can use with miles & points. IHG reports that 150+ owners are interested in the brand, and Avid hotels will likely begin opening in early 2019.
Note: If you want more IHG points, the Chase IHG currently has an increased 80,000 point sign-up bonus after you spend $1,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. Check out my post on how to get Big Travel with the Chase IHG card!Bottom Line
Introducing Avid, IHG’s 11th hotel brand! It’s a slightly less expensive alternative to Holiday Inn Express, and is expected to open in early 2019.
I don’t see anything too exciting about these new hotels, and I’m not sure IHG needs another hotel brand. But I’m glad that there will soon be even more points-eligible hotels!
