Via View From the Wing, there’s a new way to use Hilton points!  And it totally stinks.

You can now use Hilton points to shop on Amazon.com.  And while more options for redeeming points is usually a good thing, I’ll tell you why you should NOT use your points this way.

I’ve written about using Citi ThankYou, Chase Ultimate Rewards, and American Express Membership Rewards points to pay at Amazon.  You can now pay with Hilton points, too!

Just head to this page and sign-into your Amazon account.  You’ll then be prompted to enter your Hilton account number and password.  You’ll then be able to see how much your Hilton points are worth towards Amazon purchases whenever you’re on the payment screen.

Is This a Good Deal?

NO!  Similar to redeeming other types of points with Amazon, you won’t get much value from your Hilton points.  Each Hilton point is worth just 0.2 cents each towards Amazon purchases.

Hilton points are generally worth ~0.5 cents each (or more) towards Hilton hotel stays.  For example, the Hampton by Hilton Panama sells for ~$70 per night.  But you can reserve a room here for 10,000 Hilton points, for a value of 0.7 cents per point ($70 per night / 10,000 Hilton points).

If you have a handful of Hilton points that you do NOT plan to redeem, for hotel stays, this is a convenient way to get at least something from them instead of letting them expire.

If you like redeeming credit card rewards for Amazon purchases, consider signing-up for other cards that are more beneficial to you, like the no-annual-fee Chase Amazon Prime card, or even the Citi® Double Cash Card.

Note:   If you want more Hilton points, both AMEX Hilton credit cards have an increased sign-up bonus through October 4, 2017.  You’ll earn up to 75,000 Hilton points after meeting tiered spending requirements within 3 months of opening the Hilton Honors™ Card from American Express.  And you’ll earn  100,000 Hilton points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening the Hilton Honors™ Surpass® Card from American Express.

Bottom Line

You can now redeem Hilton points for Amazon purchases!  But you’ll only get a value of just 0.2 cents per point.

I recommend saving your points for hotel stays.  That’s because it’s easy to get 0.5 cents or more per point in value when redeeming Hilton points for award nights.
