Chase has released a few new cards in the past several months. And they don’t seem to be slowing down!
Via Reddit, Chase has released a new credit card, the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa. This card will give you 5% back for Amazon purchases, 2% back at restaurants, gas stations, and drugstores, and 1% back on everything else.
But you MUST have an Amazon Prime account to earn 5% back at Amazon!
The information for the Chase Amazon Prime Rewards credit card has been collected independently by Million Mile Secrets. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.
I’ll give you the details of this new card!
Chase Introduces a Card for Big Savings at Amazon!
This card also comes with:
- 5% back on all Amazon purchases if you have an Amazon Prime membership (otherwise 3% back)
- 2% back at restaurants, gas stations, and drugstores
- 1% back on all other purchases
- NO foreign transaction fees
- NO annual fee
- Benefits like travel and purchase protection and 24/7 concierge service
I like seeing no-annual-fee credit cards with NO foreign transaction fees! That’s a relatively rare perk for a no-annual-fee card.
Is the Card Worth Applying For?
This isn’t a bad card, but for those of us who want travel rewards, there are MUCH better offers. This is definitely NOT the card to start with if you’re new to miles and points.
And the sign-up bonus of a $70 Amazon gift card is weak in comparison to other Chase cards with huge miles or points offers.
The rewards earnings are good if you shop through Amazon frequently. But other cards can give you similar earnings.
1. 5% Cash Back Benefit
The Chase Amazon Prime Rewards comes with 5% back at Amazon. But ONLY if you are an Amazon Prime member. If you don’t pay the annual $99 fee for Amazon Prime, you’ll only receive 3% back for Amazon purchases.
Note: Amazon Prime is really great, and lots of us at Million Mile Secrets have it! But if you aren’t interested in its benefits, it’s definitely NOT worth signing-up just to earn an extra 2% back at Amazon.
The Chase Freedom usually has Amazon as 1 of their rotating 5% bonus categories each year (the Chase Freedom has even offered 10% back at Amazon in the past). However, you’ll only earn 5% on up to $1,500 in purchases.
2. 2% Cash Back Benefit
The Chase Amazon Prime Rewards earns 2% cash back at office supply stores (through May 31, 2017), restaurants, gas stations, and drug stores (and 1% on everything else).
That’s not a bad return, but remember, there are already a number of no-annual-fee cards that earn 2% cash back on all purchases. For example, the Citi® Double Cash Card will give you 1% cash back on all your purchases AND another 1% cash back on payments!
Who Is This Card Good For?
I personally wouldn’t apply for this card, but there are plenty of folks out there who would get lots of use from it! If the following qualities describe you, this may be the card for you!
1. You Aren’t Interested In Travel Rewards
This card is ideal for folks who don’t want to sign-up for valuable travel credit cards issued by Chase. That’s because Chase will NOT approve you for a number of their credit cards if you have applied for 5+ credit cards from ANY bank (except certain business cards) in the past 24 months.
There are some great Chase cards NOT restricted by the “5/24 rule”. And data points show that the Chase Amazon Prime Rewards can be added to that list! So if you have opened more than 5 cards in the past 24 months, you could still be approved for this card.
But it will still count against you if you wanted to open Chase cards in the future!
2. You Don’t Want to Pay Attention to Bonus Categories
If you aren’t interested in keeping up with rotating bonus categories and activating promotions on your cards, the Chase Amazon Prime Rewards makes your life easy.
3. You Shop on Amazon a LOT
If you do a lot of shopping year-round on Amazon, you’ll definitely benefit from the extra rewards this card has to offer. There’s no cap on the rewards you can earn, so if you’re a big spender, this card will save you a bundle!
The new Chase Amazon Prime Rewards card has arrived! And it comes with a sign-up bonus of a $70 Amazon gift card upon approval.
It also comes with benefits like:
- 5% back on all Amazon purchases (MUST be a member of Amazon Prime, otherwise you will earn 3%)
- 2% back at restaurants, gas stations and drugstores
- NO foreign transaction fees
- NO annual fee
It is a good card for folks who shop on Amazon frequently and don’t want to worry about bonus categories.
