Via View From the Wing, you can get a 25% bonus when you transfer AMEX Membership Rewards points to Virgin America through October 10, 2016.

This means you’ll get 125 Virgin America points for every 200 AMEX Membership Rewards points you transfer, instead of the usual rate of 100 Virgin America points.  This deal isn’t as good as previous promotions, like the 50% transfer bonus earlier this year.

There’s also an offer to earn Virgin America Gold elite status if you transfer 80,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points by October 31, 2016.  But this is probably NOT a good deal for most folks.

Get a 25% Bonus When You Transfer AMEX Points to Virgin America. Transfer 80,000+ Points and Get Virgin America Gold Elite Status

I’ll explain more about the transfer bonus and elite status offer!

What’s the Deal With the AMEX Transfer Bonus?

You’ll get a 25% bonus when you transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Virgin America by October 10, 2016.

You normally get 100 Virgin America points for every 200 AMEX Membership Rewards points transferred.  With this promotion, you get 125 Virgin America points per 200 AMEX Membership Rewards points you transfer.

You earn AMEX Membership Rewards points with these cards:

Premier Rewards Gold Card From American ExpressThe Business Gold Rewards Card from American Express OPEN
The Platinum Card® from American ExpressThe Blue Business℠ Plus Credit Card from American Express
Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit CardThe Business Platinum® Card from American Express OPEN
AMEX EveryDay® Credit Card from American Express

Business Green Rewards Card from American Express OPEN

Remember, you’ll pay an excise fee of 0.06 cents per point (to a maximum of $99) when you transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to US airlines, including Virgin America.

Here’s my series on how to use Virgin America points, including for flights to Hawaii and Australia on partner airlines.

Transfer 80,000+ American Express Points & Earn Elite Status

Link:   Virgin America Gold Elite Status

You can earn Virgin America Gold elite status if you transfer 80,000 or more AMEX Membership Rewards points by October 31, 2016.

With the current transfer bonus, 80,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points gets you 50,000 Virgin America points.

With Virgin America Gold elite status, you get perks like:

  • 3 free checked bags
  • Lounge Access at Los Angeles (LAX) Airport
  • Priority check-in and boarding
  • Upgrades to Main Cabin select when available (more leg room)

Should You Take Part?

This isn’t a great deal for most folks.  Because the extra perks of Gold status are probably not worth the unfavorable transfer ratio.  Instead you could transfer the AMEX Membership Rewards points to other terrific partners at a 1:1 ratio.

And sometimes Virgin America offers a status match.  So if you have elite status with a different airline, you could wait and get matched to Virgin America elite status.  That way you won’t have to transfer any of your AMEX points!

Of course, if you’re planning an award trip with Virgin America points, or if you fly them often enough to make the most of their top-tier elite status, you might consider this offer.

But most folks would do better to transfer their AMEX Membership Rewards points to a different airline partner, depending on where you want to travel.

Will status apply to Alaska flights with the acquisition?
