AMEX Blue Cash Everyday Card

The AMEX Blue Cash Everyday card is offering a $100 statement credit after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.  This is the same as the standard offer.

But now, you can earn up to an additional $200 back by getting 5% back on the first $4,000 in travel purchases made with your card in the first 6 months of account opening.  For a total of up to $300 back ($100 + $200).

Planning a Cruise? You Can Earn Extra Cash Back on Travel Purchases Like Cruises With This New Offer From the AMEX Blue Cash Everyday Card!

So this is a better deal for folks who spend a lot on travel purchases like airline tickets, car rentals, hotel nights, and cruises!

This card has no annual fee.  But it isn’t a good card to use overseas because it adds foreign transaction fees.

You’ll also get:

  • 3% cash back at US supermarkets (up to $6,000 per year, then 1%)
  • 2% cash back at US gas stations and select US department stores
  • 1% cash back on everything else
  • NO annual fee
  • Terms and restrictions apply
  • Rates and Fees

AMEX Blue Cash Preferred Card

The AMEX Blue Cash Preferred card has a similar deal, but you’ll earn a slightly higher sign-up bonus of $150 back after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.

The bonus for travel purchases is the same, and you can earn up to $200 back by getting 5% back on the first $4,000 in travel purchases made on the card in the first 6 months of opening your account.  For a total bonus of up to $350 ($150 + $200) in statement credits.

Hotel Stays Count Towards the 5% Back on Travel Purchases With This Offer for the AMEX Blue Cash Preferred Card!

You’ll also get:

  • 6% cash back at US supermarkets (up to $6,000 per year, then 1%)
  • 3% cash back at US gas stations and select US department stores
  • 1% cash back on everything else
  • Terms and restrictions apply

The $95 annual fee is NOT waived the first year and the card adds foreign transaction fees.

Don’t forget, American Express limits folks to one sign-up bonus per lifetime, per card.  So if you’ve had either of these cards before, you can’t earn the bonus again.

And because these are AMEX cards, you’ll be eligible for discounts through AMEX Offers.

Is This a Good Deal?

These cards could be worthwhile if you spend a lot on travel and don’t already have a card that earns a bonus for travel purchases.

But remember, if you’re just starting out, it’s better to apply for the Chase cards you want first.  Because with Chase’s tougher approval rules, if you’ve opened more than ~5 credit cards (not counting these business cards) within the past 24 months from ANY bank, it’s likely you will NOT be approved for most Chase cards.

And Chase has some of the best miles & points cards, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Ink Plus, that have more valuable sign-up bonuses.

You can read my reviews of the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Ink Plus.

Bottom Line

For folks who spend a lot on travel purchases like airline tickets, rental cards, and hotel stays, there are better offers for the AMEX Blue Cash Preferred and Blue Cash Everyday card.

You can earn up to $350 back with the AMEX Blue Cash Preferred and up to $300 back with AMEX Blue Cash Everyday card.

But to earn the full bonus, you’ll have to meet the minimum spending requirements AND spend $4,000 on travel purchases within the first 6 months of account opening.

So, if you don’t already have a card that offers a bonus for travel purchases, these cards might be worth considering.

But remember there are other cards with higher sign-up bonuses!

Preferred just added Amazon instead of travel purchases, making it more user-friendly for folks who don't spend so much money on travel.
