Folks who shop at Sam’s Club can choose from several terrific credit cards to earn miles or cash back on purchases.
Some cards include warehouse clubs, like Sam’s Club, as a bonus category. So it’s possible to earn bonus cash back on purchases you were already planning!
I’ll share the best credit cards to use at Sam’s Club, including several with no annual fee.
Best Credit Cards to Use at Sam’s Club
The best card to use at Sam’s Club might depend on your recent applications.
For example, if you recently got a new card and are working to meet minimum spending requirements, I’d recommend using that card until you earn the sign-up bonus.
But after that, here are 5 excellent cards to use to earn rewards!
1. Discover it
Link: Discover it
For example, wholesale clubs are included in the 5X categories through June 30, 2017. We’ll have to see if it stays on after!
With the 5X bonus categories, you can earn $75 cash back on up to $1,500 in purchases each quarter after you activate the bonus.
And for new cardmembers, Discover will match the cash back you’ve earned at the end of your first 12 billing cycles. So any purchases you made in the 5% bonus categories will get you 10% cash back!
2. Bank of America Cash Rewards
There are 2 no annual fee Bank of America cash back cards which include wholesale clubs as a bonus category.
You’ll also get a 10% bonus if you deposit your cash back into a Bank of America checking or savings account!
For example, when you redeem $50 cash back, you’ll get $55 in your bank account.
3. AMEX Starwood Cards
With the AMEX Starwood card, you’ll earn 1 point per $1 spent at Sam’s Club.
But for every 20,000 Starwood points you transfer to airline partners (with a 1:1 transfer ratio), you’ll earn 5,000 bonus miles.
That means every $1 spent on the AMEX Starwood cards is worth up to 1.25 airline miles!
There are also many other excellent ways to redeem Starwood points for Big Travel, like Disney World packages.
Plus, AMEX Starwood cards give you access to AMEX Offers. In the past, there have been deals at Sam’s Club, like 20% back on purchases of $100+.
So not only can you earn valuable Starwood points, but you might also save money on your purchases!
4. Citi Double Cash

You can earn up to 2% cash back at Sam’s Club with the no annual fee Citi Double Cash card.
You’ll earn 1% cash back on every purchase, and another 1% cash back when you make payments, as long you meet the minimum payment on your monthly statement.
You can redeem cash back rewards for a mailed check, a statement credit, or for gift cards, when you reach $25 in rewards.
Here’s my full review of the card.
5. Chase Freedom Unlimited

With the Chase Freedom Unlimited, you’ll earn 1.5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points (1.5% cash back) per $1 you spend on all purchases with NO limit.
And you can combine points and transfer them to airline and hotel partners if you also have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, Ink Business Preferred, Ink Plus (no longer available) or Ink Bold (no longer available).
Here’s my review of the Chase Freedom Unlimited.
Use These Cards for Purchase Protection on Big Purchases
Sam’s Club sells a lot of big-ticket items like appliances, computers, furniture, and televisions.
If you’re purchasing an expensive item, you might want to give up earning bonus cash back or extra miles and use a card that provides extended warranty benefits.
For example, you can get 1 extra year added to a warranty of 5 years or less on eligible purchases when you pay with these cards:
- Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express
- The Platinum Card® from American Express
- Delta Reserve Credit Card from American Express
This benefit can get you a refund up to the amount charged to your card, with a maximum of $10,000, and no more than $50,000 per calendar year. Check here for the complete AMEX extended warranty terms & conditions.
Or consider using a card like:
When you pay with 1 of these cards, you’ll get 1 extra year added to a warranty of 3 years or less. Similar to AMEX, you’ll get a refund up to the amount charged to your card less shipping and handling fees, with a maximum of $10,000, and no more than $50,000 per calendar year.
There are lots of terrific credit cards to use at Sam’s Club to earn miles, points, or cash back.
For example, earn 5% cash back at Sam’s Club with the no annual fee Discover it when wholesale clubs are included in rotating quarterly bonus categories.
