I’ve mentioned to y’all how The Platinum Card from American Express can get you Starwood Gold elite status.
This is a terrific perk for your Starwood hotel stays. Because you earn extra bonus points and get late check-outs and room upgrades when available.
But I recently discovered you can gift this perk to someone else. It’s free to do and takes less than a minute! This is useful if you already have Starwood elite status.
I’ll explain how you can gift Starwood Gold status with the AMEX Platinum card!
Starwood Gold Status With American Express Platinum Card
- 3X Starwood points per $1 spent on stays at Starwood hotels (50% points bonus)
- 4:00 pm late check-out when it’s available
- Upgrade to better rooms (higher floor, better view)
- Free in-room premium internet when you book through the Starwood website or their mobile app
- Welcome gift (choose 125 points for Aloft, Element, and Four Points hotels or 250 points at other Starwood hotels, or complimentary drink)
And because of the Marriott-Starwood merger, Marriott will instantly match your Starwood Gold elite status to Marriott Gold elite status. With Marriott Gold elite status, you’ll earn 25% more base points when you stay with Marriott (12.5 points per $1).
If you already have Starwood Gold status, you can give this AMEX Platinum perk away to someone else. I did this so Emily can have elite status!
Step 1. Log-In to Your AMEX Account
First, log-in to your AMEX account. Make sure your AMEX Platinum Card is selected. Then click on the “Benefits” page.
Step 2. Enroll for Starwood Gold Elite Status
Next, scroll down to find the Starwood Preferred Guest Gold status benefit and click on “Enroll in Starwood Gold.”
Step 3. Enter Starwood Number of the Person You’re Giving Gold Status To
The last step is to enter the Starwood loyalty number you want to gift with Starwood Gold elite status.
Step 4. Wait for Confirmation From Starwood
It can take up to 72 hours for Starwood Gold status to become active. You’ll get an email from Starwood once it’s done.
