Two Tools to Find Marriott Hotels

I like using Hotel Hustle to find hotels for award stays because it shows you how many points you’ll need for your specific travel dates.  And show you if award nights are available at hotels, including Marriott!

Another option is AwardMapper.  It shows similar information.  But it’s not specific to travel dates and won’t search for available award rooms.

  1. This year, we are using our free night to stay at the Residence inn Downtown Ottawa (category 5). It’s not the US, so not fitting your post criteria but our room is valued at C$269 per night. We’ve wanted to go to Ottawa for years to see Canada’s great national museums. This hotel has kitchen facilities and is walking distance to Parliment Hill, museums and the UNESCO-rated Rideau Canal.

    We have 2 Marriott CCs so we are staying two nights.

  2. Leslie Johnson

    Just to point out the courtyard new orleans will never be that low a price point during jazz fest or mardi gras.

  3. +1 on Heavenlyane on that Ottawa property. I stayed for Winterlude and it’s one of the Winterlude official hotels.

    I’ve also found exceptional value for my cert, as well as points by using for college football weekends at my Alma mater. Cash price skyrockets, points remain level.

  4. This post reconfirms my decision not to hold on to Mariott card. VERY FEW places where you can REALLY USE it WHEN YOU WANT IT. Hardly any Cat 5 hotels that works for me. Other may have better luck.

  5. Used my last annual free night in Halifax Courtyard Downtown in conjunction with a couple of other certs. Price was prob about $150-$175 IIRC and we were upgraded to a suite. No complaints here. I’ll be using my next free nights from megabonus and CC later this fall. Maybe San Jose Marriott in Costa Rica.

  6. A tip. If you have time before expiration, use your Award when there is no Mega Bonus going on for paid stays – as these sometimes add value to your paid stays – which you will not get for Award stays.

  7. Wait. You are seriously pimping the Marriott credit card using the examples of a Fairfield Inn in South Carolina and a Residence Inn in Secaucus? There are not enough Ls, Os, and Ls left in my keyboard for this.

  8. +1 Doug. I have the card and always have trouble finding a decent hotel to use it at! Priceline is always cheaper than the $85 annual fee!

  9. There are 63 cat 5 Marriotts, 19 Renaissance, 1 JW, and 5 Autograph collection hotels and you’re suggesting people use their free nights at a Residence, Courtyard, or Fairfield?

  10. @A I have the card and it can’t be compared to Priceline. How many times can you cancel and rebook a prepaid res? I change plans all the time and I just rebook with my cert. It will always break even at the bare minimum. The cert used to be only good for 6 months, but now it’s good for a year. It’s a very useful to me and I have gotten great value out of it. Of course, I road trip all over the country, not just city hop via airplane.

  11. @James – how do I found those hotels that are category 5?

  12. Fairfield Inn & Suites New Bedford, Mass. has a good value over summer season – it is near Cape Cod, in historic center by the pier and nearby ferry to Martha’s Vineyard.
    Don’t know why people complain about free night – if you don’t like it then don’t get the card. Yes, Marriott devalued in last few years by making category rates higher, but so the every other hotel program in US! Look at Carlson or IHG – same thing: limited choice. One plus with Marriott – you can upgrade your Free Nite Cert with extra points to the higher category. Other programs don’t offer that.

  13. @HeavenlyJane @TCCQuest @Stratman560- Terrific! Glad you’ve found ways to make great use of the certificate!

    @Leslie Johnson – Good point.

    @TomJ – It depends on your travel plans!

    @Doug @A @James – Different hotels appeal to different folks!

    @Jo – Good points!

    @Stephen – Check here: http://www.marriott.com/hotel-search/Category5.hotels/

    @Aleks – Sounds like a great way to use a certificate. And very good points.
