Update:   Thanks to Million Mile Secrets reader Steve for letting us know you should now submit your Hilton status match request through this website.  You can still ask for a status match through January 11, 2016.

It’s now easy to get perks like lounge access, free breakfast, and room upgrades at Hilton hotels!

Hilton is offering Diamond Elite status through March 2017 to folks who can prove elite status in certain hotel programs, including IHG Platinum Elite status.  All you have to do is email Hilton with a screenshot of your IHG account.

This is a no-brainer if you have the Chase IHG card, because it comes with automatic IHG Platinum Elite status!

Chase IHG Cardholders Can Enjoy Executive Lounge Access When They’re Matched to Hilton Diamond Status – for Free!

I’ll explain how to do it!

What’s the Deal?

Earn Hilton Diamond Status – by Having the Chase IHG Card!

I wrote last month that Hilton is offering status matches to folks who can prove elite status in another hotel chain’s loyalty program.

This is a better deal than I originally thought!

If you’re an IHG Platinum Elite (which comes free with the Chase IHG card), Hilton will upgrade your status to Diamond Elite until March 31, 2017.

You can save a lot of money as a Hilton Diamond elite member!  For example, you’ll get free drinks and food at Hilton hotels with an Executive Lounge.

Enjoy Better Rooms (When Available) As a Hilton Diamond Elite

This is a terrific deal for folks (like Emily and me!) who have IHG Platinum Elite status from the Chase IHG card.

I’ve already said this is a card worth keeping, because you get a free night at ANY IHG hotel every year you renew the card.  It’s well worth the $49 annual fee (waived for the 1st year).

The Chase IHG Card Is Already an Excellent Deal With an Annual Free Night at ANY IHG Hotel, Like the InterContinental Amstel Amsterdam

When you sign-up for the Chase IHG card and spend $2,000 on purchases in the 1st 3 months of opening your account, you’ll earn 70,000 IHG points.  And an additional 5,000 IHG points when you add an authorized user and make a purchase in the same timeframe.

If you’re not a Chase IHG cardholder, there’s still time to apply and get your IHG Platinum Elite status matched to Hilton Diamond.  Hilton is running this status match until January 11, 2016.

Check out my post on how to get the most travel from the Chase IHG card.  And here are some ideas for where to use your anniversary free night in Europe and the US!

What Do You Get With Hilton Diamond Status?

Normally, you’d need 30 stays, 60 nights, or 120,000 Hilton base points in a calendar year to earn Hilton Diamond elite status.  So this is an excellent short-cut!

With Hilton Diamond elite status, you’ll get perks like:

  • Complimentary access to the Executive Lounge (if the hotel has one), even if you’re not upgraded to a room on the executive floor
  • Free breakfast at many Hilton brand hotels, including Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, Conrad, Curio, and DoubleTree (At Homewood Suites by Hilton you already get free breakfast so they give you Pepperidge Farm cookies.  Perfect for my sweet tooth!)
  • Room upgrades when available
  • 50% point bonus on paid stays
  • A guaranteed room if you book at least 48 hours prior to arrival (with some restrictions)
  • Complimentary premium Internet access
  • Late check-out when available

While you can get many of these perks by having Hilton Gold elite status (which is included with the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve Card and Hilton Honors Surpass Card from American Express), only Hilton Diamond status offers guaranteed Executive Lounge access and a 48-hour room guarantee.

Plus, you’ll earn 50% bonus points as a Diamond elite, instead of 25% with Gold elite status.

Note:   You can also earn Hilton Diamond status when you spend $40,000 or more in a calendar year with the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve Card and Hilton Honors Surpass Card from American Express.  But I’d rather put that spending on other cards and earn Diamond status for free from a status match!

How to Request a Status Match

Folks on FlyerTalk say they’ve received Hilton Diamond status by emailing a screenshot of their IHG account (showing IHG Platinum Elite status) to [email protected].  Be sure to include your Hilton Honors account number!

My friend tried this the other day.  Within ~1 week, she received an email confirming their new Hilton Diamond status through March 31, 2017.

It Took ~1 Week for Hilton to Match My Friend’s IHG Platinum Elite Status to Diamond Elite Status

Remember, Hilton is only offering this status match until January 11, 2016.  Be patient, because I’m sure they’re receiving lots of requests!

Bottom Line

Hilton is offering free Diamond Elite status through March 2017 to folks with elite status in other hotel programs, including IHG Platinum Elite members!

This is a terrific deal for Chase IHG cardholders, because the card comes with automatic IHG Platinum Elite status!

With Hilton Diamond Elite status, you’ll get access to the Executive Lounge (at hotels that have them), room upgrades when available, and other perks.

To request a status match, send a screenshot of your IHG Platinum Elite status and Hilton Honors account number to [email protected] by January 11, 2016.

So if you don’t yet have the Chase IHG card, there’s still time to sign-up and get your free IHG Platinum Elite and Hilton Diamond Elite status!

Let me know if you’ve received a Hilton Diamond Elite status match from IHG Platinum Elite (or any other elite status).  And enjoy your new perks!

  1. I just matched to diamond with Hilton. In their e mails to me they explicitly say they will match only Spire, not Platinum, but if they do more power to ya

  2. I have IHG PLATINUM and Hilton matched me to DIAMOND. So excited!

  3. Anyone can tell me if we can get status matched to Hyatt Diamond after we get status matched to Hilton Diamond? I am currently Hyatt Platinum and was denied status match earlier cos I missed the cut off time by about 1 hour!

  5. A quick question …A year after diamond status ..Are you downgraded to Gold or is it back to base level …

  6. I have the Hyatt card, thus Platinum status with Hyatt, Hilton match my Plat. status to Hilton diamond as well!

  7. @KG

It would be downgraded back to base there are no soft landings for Hilton typically.

I am debating if the match would be worth it. Currently receive Gold through Amex Plat and HH Surpass. I could match to Platinum but don’t see much value of that over Gold. Also wondering if it would hurt potential matches to Hilton in the future

  8. Just got this response. Thank you for the info!

  9. Just got matched to HH Diamond!

  10. Wow, i submitted this morning and I’m already upgraded!

  11. hey Daraius

Thanks a lot for this tip

I sent them the screen shot via mail in the morning & within 4 hours have an email confirming my diamond status 🙂

One of the many awesome tips iv got from you…thanks & keep up the good work 🙂

  12. Just got matched, too! Thanks MMS and IHG Chase credit card!

  13. freedisneyworldtrip

Thanks Darius, I sent this morning with IHG Spire and they matched to Diamond a few hours later! Can’t wait to try and get every other hotel to match the Diamond now.

  14. Wow! I just read this today and sent email. I got a response a couple of hours later!
I was only Platinum under my Hyatt Rewards Program, so I sent them that screen shot and HHonors bumped me 2 Levels up to Gold from Blue!
Not Diamond yes, but just a little closer. I am happy!

  15. Thanks so much for nudging me on this hot tip. Was upgraded to Diamond using IHG Platinum within a matter of hours. Thanks again for all your helpful info.

  16. It worked! IHG Spire matched to Hilton Diamond within a few hours today. Thanks so much for the awesome tip!!

  17. Actually this information has been on many of the blogs for a week or so, not really a hot tip. However, I had put it off and wasn’t too hopeful after failing to get matched to Hyatt Diamond. Daraius post nudged me to try with Hilton and today I was successful like many of you. IHG Plat (just for having the Chase IHG card) matched to Hilton Diamond. I was Hilton Gold before so it was a jump of one level. And again the Hilton Gold was from having the Hilton Surpass card. I can unequivocally state I have earned none of these levels through stays. Thanks Hilton and thanks Daraius!

  18. Even IHG??? Now that’s cool. Hot tip for me. THANKS! 🙂

  19. Thank you! I was upgraded to Diamond today after just signing up earlier today for HHonors.

  20. I had thought that they only matched IHG Spire.
Applied as IHG Platinum status and 5 hours later received the email advising was approved for Diamond Elite Status.
    Thanks for the tip!

  21. Got matched to Diamond using IHG Platinum in less than 24 hours!

  22. matched in less than 24 hours!

  23. Pretty easy process, I did it last week. Already Diamond for HH.

  24. Is there really time to sign up for the IHG card, get Platinum and then match to Hilton? The fine print on the IHG offer says it will take 6-8 weeks for Platinum status to be attached to your IHG account. That would mean your IHG account wouldn’t reflect the status until after Hilton’s match offer is over (Jan 11 2016). Anyone have any experience with how quickly Platinum gets attached to your IHG account after you are approved for the card?

  25. @Shelley or everyone, I got the same auto response but how did you found out about the upgrade?

Did you login you Hhonors acct to verify diamond status or did they email you regarding it.

  26. NVM, got the email. thanks

  27. Is there time to apply for the IHG card and get Platinum before the Hilton status at h ends? Fine print says Platinum takes 6-8 weeks. Anyone have actual experience with this?

  28. Diamond isnt that great other than the bonus points you get for paid stays. I stayed at a Garden Inn in Portsmouth NH last month, asked about Diamond benefits and they offered me none. Breakfast was not free, internet was already free with the online booking, and no free parking. Ive havent been upgraded in a room in years, and I stay about 35 nights a year with Hilton.

  29. Thanks Darius for the info. Matched to Diamond using IHG Platinum Card within 24 hours.

  30. Thanks for this — my wife travels for work and I was able to get her Diamond at Hilton 🙂

  31. Worked for me! It took less than one day to receive this message:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding status match. We appreciate you taking the time to contact us.

Congratulations! Your HHonors account has been upgraded to Diamond status. Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery of your new card. Your status will be active until March 31, 2017.

  32. So excited to read this! Now what else can we match status with with Hilton Diamond? I know Motel 6 does not count!

  33. Darius, much thanks for the HHonors tip. E-mailed my IHG platinum info to Hilton this morning at 10:30. As of 3:22 I am now Diamond status. Maybe for only a few months, but that’s OK. I’ll be at the Hilton Strand in Helsinki for five nights in January. Again, thanks for the heads up!

  34. I emailed them a screen shot of my Marriott gold status and they matched me gold status. I have 0 points as I never stay there but going to give it a try next time!

  35. Was matched to Gold using Hyatt Platinum. I am Gold till March 2017

  36. Wow. I emailed a screenshot of my IHG status and I was upgraded to Diamond status less than 3 hours later.
    Thanks D.

  37. @woonmai – My understanding is Hyatt will only match SPG Platinum elite members to Hyatt Diamond elite status at this time. But it can’t hurt to try – the worst they can say is no.

@ KG – @Travel Griz is correct (thanks!)

@pjs – It’s been a while since I applied for the card, but I recall it took much less than 6 to 8 weeks.

Folks on FlyerTalk say they received IHG Platinum status in less than a week:

And others say if you don’t receive IHG Platinum status quickly, you can send a secure message to Chase (or call) and they’ll speed it up for you:

And @everyone, I’m thrilled y’all got upgraded Hilton status! Enjoy the perks and please share your Diamond elite experiences at Hilton hotels! Thanks for reading! 🙂

  38. Got got the new ihg card but chase and ihg are saying it take 6 to 8 weeks to make my ihg the platinum status promised with new card hope don’t miss the Hilton match opportunity have called chase and ihg trying to get something showing the platium status so I can send to hilton keep being told 6 to 8 weeks to show my correct status

  39. Thanks for the tip! This is going to be HUGE!!! I signed up for the IHG card the day you posted this. I was accepted and was anxious to get the card to spend the $1000 in order to get not just the 60,000pts but mainly to get the Elite status ASAP (before Jan 11, 2016). Little did I realize that I was given Platinum Elite status even before my card has arrived. I just checked today and it was there, so I immediately sent a screenshot of my status to [email protected] along with my HHonors number. Fingers crossed!

  40. I received my IHG Chase card on Dec. 10, spent $1k on the 17th, received platinum elite status on the 18th (I did sent secure message telling Chase that IHG Rewards Club did not detect my card). Saw the status changed earlier and sent in my Hilton email and form, received my Diamond status within 10 minutes of submitting the form. Off to a great start!

  41. For anybody still reading this thread, Hilton now requires submitting the status match via They say it takes up to 5 business days to process.

  42. @Steve – Thanks for the heads-up! I’ve put an update at the top of the post.

  43. Do you know if Hyatt will honor the Hilton Diamond status in Hyatt’s status match? Thanks for your input.

  44. My sister and I never got matched. Lol. We just never heard back from Hilton after three weeks now

  45. Thanks to your post, I was matched to Hilton Diamond after getting the IHG card (60K offer). Shortly after I got the card, I see a new offer of 80K points within my IHG account. It’s without the $50 statement credit, though. I understand that I can get Chase to match to the new offer. But my question is that, is the additional 20K IHG points worth $50?
