Hilton Hotels Include Lots of Different Hotel Brands

This is the highest bonus ever for this card.  And it’s a great deal for a card that has NO annual fee.  Here’s my review of the card.

Along with 75,000 Hilton points, you’ll also get:

  • 6 Hilton points for every $1 you spend at Hilton hotels
  • 3 Hilton points for every $1 you spend at supermarkets, drugstores, and gas stations
  • 2 Hilton points for every $1 you spend on everything else
  • NO annual fee
  • Free Hilton Silver elite status (late check-out, 2 free bottles of water, and 15% points bonus on Hilton points earned)
  • Free Hilton Gold elite status (free breakfast and internet) after staying 4 times at Hilton in the 1st 3 months or after spending $20,000 on purchases in a calendar year
  • 10,000 Hilton points at the end of a calendar when you spend $1,000 or more at Hilton hotels

Hilton hotels include Conrad, DoubleTree, Embassy SuitesHampton InnHiltonHilton Garden InnHome2SuitesHomewood Suites, and Waldorf Astoria brand hotels.

This is NOT a good card to use outside the US because of the 3% foreign transaction fee.

As with all Citi cards, you’re eligible for Citi Price Rewind, which refunds you money when prices go down on certain items you’ve bought.

Keep These in Mind Before You Apply!

If you apply for the card and are not instantly approved, try calling Citi and ask to be reconsidered.

Remember You Can Only Apply for 1 Citi Card Per Day, and No More Than 2 Every 65 Days

Remember that Citi only allows 1 credit card application per day, and will approve NO more than 2 personal credit cards within 65 days.  You must also wait ~8 days between applications.

If you’ve already earned the bonus on this card, you must wait 18 months after you’ve opened or closed it to earn it again.

Who Should Consider This Card?

The Citi Hilton Visa is a good choice for folks who are looking for a NO annual fee card that rewards their loyalty to Hilton hotels.

It comes with automatic Hilton Silver elite status, which earns a 15% bonus on stays at Hilton hotels.

It’s also 1 of the only cards that rewards purchases at drugstores.  With the Citi Hilton Visa, you’ll earn 3 Hilton points per $1 spent at drugstores, gas stations, and supermarkets.

Earn 6 Hilton Points per $1 Spent at Hilton Hotels, and 3 Hilton Points per $1 Spent at Drugstores, Gas Stations, and Supermarkets

You can buy lots of types of gift cards at drugstores like CVS or Rite Aid.

And because this card has NO annual fee, it’s a good 1 to keep forever.  If you stay at Hilton hotels occasionally, you can enjoy earning extra points with your Hilton Silver elite status.

And if you stay 4 times at Hilton in the 1st 3 months of account opening or after spending $20,000 on purchases in a calendar year, you’ll get a boost up to Hilton Gold elite status, which is good for free breakfast and internet, and upgrades when space allows.

Note:   Starting August 2015, all guests will get free Wi-Fi at Hilton hotels if they book their stay directly through Hilton.  However, they’ve introduced this perk early at some hotels.

If You Got the Card Recently, Ask to Bump the Bonus!

Some folks might’ve gotten this card recently to take advantage of the benefits above.

If you opened this card within the past month or 2, it’s worth calling Citi or sending a secure message asking to receive the increased sign-up bonus.

There are no guarantees, but it never hurts to ask!

After you complete the minimum spending requirements on this card, you’ll have to wait to receive the bonus points in your Hilton account.  Generally, if you complete the minimum spending ~5 to ~7 days before your account closes for the month, you’ll receive the points at the end of the billing cycle.

And then you can use them for Big Travel!

75,000 Hilton points is enough for 15 award nights at a Hilton Category 1 hotels at off-peak prices.

And it’s nearly enough for 8 award nights at Hilton Category 2 hotels!

Planning to Visit the Taj Mahal? Stay 7 Nights at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Agra, India, for 70,000 Hilton Points!

For example, you can stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Agra, India, for only 10,000 Hilton points per night.  If you want to see the Taj Mahal, it’s ~10 minutes away!

Or you could stay 3 nights at the Hampton Inn Albuquerque during the famous annual Balloon Fiesta for 60,000 Hilton points!

If You’ve Ever Wanted to See the Hot Air Balloons at the Balloon Fiesta, You’re in Luck! Stay 3 Nights in Albuquerque This October for 60,000 Hilton Points

This would cost over ~$500 if you paid cash!

A great way to start exploring Hilton points is with Hilton’s own points search tool.

Emily and I always check TripAdvisor before we book a hotel.  And to see where we can use Hilton points for hotel stays, we search HotelHustle (which even shows if award rooms are available) and AwardMapper.

Bottom Line

If you’ve been thinking about getting the Citi Hilton Visa, now is a good time to apply.  I do NOT think the sign-up bonus will get higher than the limited-time offer of 75,000 Hilton points.  And it’s a great deal for a NO annual fee credit card.

If you got the card recently, you should ask Citi to match the current offer.  Some folks have reported success by simply asking via secure message or phone call.  It never hurts to try!

75,000 Hilton points is enough for 15 nights at a Hilton Category 1 hotel or 7 nights at a Hilton Category 2 hotel.  Use Hilton’s points search tool to see how points you’ll need for a hotel stay.

Will you apply for the Citi Hilton Visa?

  1. Is there a way to find out when I closed this card previously? Would it be easy to just call Citi?

And what does the line “must wait 18 months since opening or closing it” mean? specifically the open or close it?

  2. I just signed up for the 60k offer over the weekend. When this 75k offer was announced today, I tried calling Citi customer service to see if they could switch me to the 75k offer. The rep said there was no way to change it since the 75k offer is a separate offer, and that I could only try to apply for the 75k offer to see if I would be approved. I’m aware of the 18 month rule (which the Citi rep apparently wasn’t aware of) so I asked to be transferred to retention to see they could offer me some additional points to make up the difference. I was put on hold for 5 minutes then disconnected. I called back two more times. Both times I asked to speak to retention, and both times I was put on hold and then disconnected. I finally got frustrated and gave up. 15k Hilton miles aren’t worth that much of my time!

  3. Does anyone know when will this offer expire? Thank you.

  4. John – Did you try calling the retention number?

  5. For me, this card would only be good for the sign up bonus and if I can make the 4 night stays in 1st 3 months of opening to achieve gold status. The Hilton Honors card from AMEX is better — 7x hhonors points for Hilton hotel stays, 5x for gas, restaurants and supermarkets, 3x for all other eligible spends. It also gives auto silver elite status with no fee. I don’t spend enough on this card to achieve gold through spending.

  6. Can you merge points if I signed up for a card and my wife signed up for one as well?

  7. anyone knows that whether the gold membership will be forever if I finish the requirement? Thanks!

  8. Does anyone know when will this offer expire? Thank you

  9. Same question as Eric “must wait 18 months since opening or closing it” Citi canceled my card a month ago due to no use. Anyway around the wait time if they canceled me? Do any good to call them? Thanks

  10. If you already have the Amex Hilton Surpass card, which gives you gold status, what happens if you also get this card? This card only gives you silver status, so I want to make sure that I would still keep the gold status (the highest level between the 2 cards I would have).

  11. Do you know how long this offer will last? Thanks

  12. Just got Approved by phone after the online application. Yes! with the 75,000 bonnus points!!!!

  13. Citibank rep just told me she will put a “referral” to their Marketing Dept. in an effort to match the 15k bonus points difference- it can take “7-10 business days to receive a response”. I signed up and got their card for the 60k bonus offer just last week.

  14. Said they would mail me a response in 7-10 business days got the 50k offer on the 26th of june card on july 8 and called the same day will update in 7-10 business days

  15. We’re planning a lengthy trip overseas with a friend of ours. He wants to gift us this 75k bonus from this card he opened. Is it possible to avoid the transfer fees by having him book 2 nights with us as the Guest 2, and then we would book the rest of the nights under our HHonor account? Would we be forced to move rooms or anything?

  16. When does this increased sign-on bonus expire? How many inquiries are too many to get approval?

  17. I got an email about this but made sure to come and click through your affiliate link to apply. Did this one and the Marriott 70k offer. Thanks for all you write!

  18. I called in 10 days ago asking them to match the offer. They told me they’ve put in an online request for and and will send me a notice in 7-10 days. I just called in to check the status is and was told that this is a TARGETED offer that is only valid if you received a mail or email. Didn’t expect them to turn around and not honor their words like that… Anybody in the same situation?

  19. I have a Citi Hilton Honors card already and have had it for a while. Should I cancel this card before applying for this new card with the 75K points?

  20. Just before applying for this card, I see many places available using points. today, I cant even find one place….something is going on! Can you check if its true?

  21. Any word on how long this lasts???

  22. I know each company has their own criteria for approving and not approving an application but this one has me so frustrated. According to Credit Sesame . com I currently have a 764 Trans Union score. Credit Karma has me at 758 TU 751 Equifax. The obvious reason for me wanting this card is the sign up bonus plus the ability to earn HHONORS point at places that don’t accept AMEX. I tried in August to get this card was denied and tried again today still denied. I have 3 other Citi cards 2 Sears 1 Simplicity but they will not approve me for this card I called and asked if i could transfer some of my CL from another Citi card to this and was told no. And I really fell kinda stupid begging someone to let me spend money with them but it does boggle me as to why basically everyone else is approving me no problem but they just will not budge. I just got approved for another AMEX card today which I could see being easier because i’ve been with them for a while now and they know my payment history But this Citi Hilton denial is just driving me insane

  23. I referred 8 friends 3 months ago (March 2016) to apply for the Hilton HHonors Amex card and they all got approved and used their cards, but still have not got any referral bonus yet. Does anyone have the same problem?
