Earlier this spring, Wyndham announced big changes to their award program.  Starting May 11, 2015, all Wyndham hotel award nights will cost 15,000 points per night.

That’s great news for folks who redeem Wyndham points in expensive locations, including their top hotels and some all-inclusive resorts!

Make the Most of Your Wyndham Points by Using Them in Expensive Cities, Like New York

Wyndham hotels include:

Let’s look at what you’ll earn with the new Barclaycard Wyndham Rewards cards!

1.   Barclaycard Wyndham Rewards With Annual Fee

Like the previous increased offer, you’ll earn 45,000 Wyndham points (worth 3 nights at any Wyndham hotel) after meeting minimum spending requirements with the premium version of the Barclaycard Wyndham Rewards card.

But they’ve added an improved anniversary bonus of 15,000 Wyndham points, worth 1 free night at any Wyndham hotel!

With this card, you’ll get:

  • 30,000 Wyndham points after your 1st purchase, plus 15,000 points after you spend $1,000 on purchases in the 1st 90 days of opening your account (45,000 points total)
  • 15,000 Wyndham points on your account anniversary each year (was 5,500 Wyndham points)
  • 5 points per $1 you spend at Wyndham hotels
  • 2 points per $1 you spend on everything else

The $69 annual fee is NOT waived for the 1st year.  But I’ll explain why it’s worth it!

Note:   The main landing page does NOT show the additional 15,000 bonus for spending $1,000 on purchases in the 1st 90 days of opening your account (for either card).  But it’s in the terms & conditions.

You’ll See the Extra Bonus Points When You Read the Terms and Conditions on These Cards

You could get an amazing value from the 45,000 point sign-up bonus if you book stays at expensive resorts or in pricey locations.

For example, the Tryp by Wyndham Times Square South hotel costs ~$324 per night in July.

You Could Pay 15,000 Points per Night in New York, or ~$324

If you used the 45,000 point sign-up bonus at this hotel, you’d get 3 nights worth ~$972!

It’s well worth then $69 annual fee to earn 45,000 Wyndham points if you can use them at expensive hotels.  And this is a card worth keeping, because for $69 you’ll get 15,000 points (worth another free night) on your card anniversary!

2.  Barclaycard Wyndham Rewards With NO Annual Fee

The no-annual-fee version of the Barclaycard Wyndham Rewards card earns you 30,000 Wyndham points (worth 2 nights at any Wyndham hotel) after meeting minimum spending requirements.  This is higher than the previous 20,000 Wyndham point offer.

But there’s NO anniversary bonus.

With this card, you’ll get:

  • 15,000 bonus points after your 1st purchase, plus 15,000 points after you spend $1,000 on purchases the 1st 90 days of opening your account (30,000 points total)
  • 3 points per $1 you spend at Wyndham hotels
  • 2 points per $1 you spend on everything else
  • NO annual fee

The No-Annual-Fee Version of the Card Can Get You 2 Free Nights at the Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort Bonnet Creek

This is a great deal for a no-annual-fee card.  But I think I’d rather pay the $69 fee and earn another free night (potentially worth $300+)!

Are Wyndham Award Nights Hard to Redeem?

The FAQ for the new Wyndham Rewards program says starting May 11, 2015, there will be NO blackout dates for redeeming award rooms.  As long as there is a standard room available, you can book an award night.

Our go free award will replace our Free Night Stay program.  The go free award will allow you to redeem 15,000 Wyndham Rewards points for one free night at any of our participating hotels worldwide – any standard room (up to max. occupancy), any participating property, down to last room availableNo blackout dates.

They’ll publish the full terms and conditions of their new program on May 11, 2015.  But it sounds like it should be relatively easy to book award nights through their new system.

If a Standard Room Is Available, You Should Be Able to Book It With Points Starting May 11, 2015

Note:   Before you consider for this card, remember that Barclaycard typically only approves folks for 1 to 2 cards per year.  Other Barclaycards, like the Barclaycard Arrival Plus, might be better suited to your travel style.

Bottom Line

The Barclaycard Wyndham Rewards cards are back with improved sign-up bonuses.  You could earn enough points for 3 free nights at any Wyndham hotel from 1 card after meeting minimum spending requirements!

Some top Wyndham hotels cost $300+ per night or more.  So this could be an excellent deal for folks who can use Wyndham points at their expensive hotels and resorts.

Emily and I don’t earn a commission from these cards, but we’ll always share the best deals with our readers!

  1. I predict availability will quickly become a major challenge. Everyone will be trying to book into the few good Wyndham properties, such as Times SQ South; standard room availability will be very hard to come by once folks start booking using the new rates. (And the hotel franchisees will not be happy when all their standard rooms are booked on points, but the premium rooms are not close to selling out.)

  2. This is a good short term card. The award chart will change to properly reflect property values. So as long as you know what you are getting into, this is a great up front deal. Drop it later when the award chart adjusts accordingly.

  3. UAPhil has it right … ‘the few good Wyndham properties.’ He’s right!

  4. Do you have any idea how long they usually run the extra sign up bonus on the credit card?

  5. Which Wyndham all-inclusive resorts can you use points at?

  6. Wyndham Grand shows no reward availability. Other two Hawaiian hotels show 16k and 20k a night. I don’t see how this sign up is worth 3 nights at any hotel.

  7. Do you think its possible to apply for both cards at once? If not, how long should I wait for a Barclaycard? I was just approved for the fee version, but I would love to get the no-fee version too, so that I can use my 5 free nights at once.

  8. Ed, the new award prices haven’t kicked in yet.

  9. This is a short term but great offer.$900 is definitely a good amount and it would be wise to take advantage of it while you can.

  10. I need to move some credit around to (hopefully) get approved for this card – never done that before. Can anyone give me their experience with Barclay’s moving credit – will I be allowed the sign-up bonus, if I’m just moving a credit line over to a new card (need to get rid of an older one anyway)?

  11. I just got this card to earn nights at the Wyndham Grand Chicago Riverfront, and now they and the nicer properties have zeroed their award space and are “no longer participating” in the program. What a joke. Time to cut the card up and move on.

  12. Just stayed at Wyndham Garden Chinatown in NYC for 4 nights.

    $349/night.

When I asked for the bill, they said “already paid – there is no bill.”

I agree, opt outs will be an issue, but this hotel was still opt in – and we scored $1400 plus tax.

As for another comment – I tried to get both the 69 per year card and the free one – I was only able to get ONE card, not two.

  13. Thanks for the great deal! The 45k offer still active!

  14. Any idea on how long it takes for the first purchase bonus to post. Have to wait for the billing cycle to close or just after purchase
