Update:  You can get Hilton Gold Status for free with the Citi Hilton Reserve credit card, for as long as you have the card, which could be worth it for the free breakfast and free internet.

Via Online Travel Review, you can get free Hilton Gold status until May 2013 (normally 16 stays or 36 nights)  if you make a virtual move to Australia.

Free Hilton Gold Status

Free Hilton Gold Status

Some of you may find a virtual move questionable, so do whatever you’re comfortable with.

The free internet access and the free breakfast could alone save you $20 to $30 (or more) per night and let you have Big Travel with Small Money.

The perks of Hilton  Gold status are the best, in my opinion, for a mid-tier status level:

  • Free internet access
  • A space available upgrade to the executive floor or the next best available room type
  • Free Continental breakfast
  • 25% bonus points on stays
  • Discounted VIP award nights

These perks are valid even if you use points for your stay.  I would much rather have hotel elite status than airline elite status, because I usually spend more time in hotels than in airports and airplanes.

Here’s how to get instant Hilton Gold (free breakfast & internet) status:

  1. Log into your Hilton account and change your address to an Australian address (perhaps a friend or office location or c/o the local Hilton, Google will help)
  2. Log out of your Hilton account and go here to get instant Hilton Gold status
  3. Enter “442394 411945” as the 1st 6 digits of your Visa Infinite card when prompted,  and then click “Verify
  4. Enter your Hilton account number and PIN and click “Submit
  5. Congratulations on your new Hilton Gold status!
  6. Don’t forget to change your address back to the US.  It is summer in Australia, so you could extend your stay.

The terms say that this is valid only for valid Visa Infinite members, but it worked for Emily.

The free Hilton Gold status will come in very handy when we redeem the Hilton points I earned during my last app-o-rama!

I earned 170,000 Hilton points by signing up for the Bank of America Virgin Atlantic and Hawaiian Airline credit cards and transferring the points to Hilton.

I can redeem these 170,000 points for 4 nights at the highest category 7 Hilton using the 15% VIP discount on award nights for Gold elite members.  And if I had an American Express Hilton card, I would qualify for AXON awards for 145,000 Hilton points for 4 nights.

Bottom Line:  It doesn’t hurt to register for free Hilton Gold status if you’re willing to make a virtual move to Australia.

Update:  You can get Hilton Gold Status for free with the Citi Hilton Reserve credit card, for as long as you have the card, which could be worth it for the free breakfast and free internet.

  1. @Devon – It isn’t on the redesigned page as a Diamond or Gold benefit, so I wonder if that is a mistake.

  2. Is there a way to determine to what date you have gold to?

  3. @Allen - You can call to ask.

  4. I tried to do this using Lady D’s steps and got to the congratulations page but my status still hasn’t been updated. Do I need to put in that generated credit card number as part of my account profile in HHonors?

I also did not have an area to select “perferrred” for my address (I do however, have that for email and phone).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  5. I tried this new (second number) and it did not work. Tried many times. Actually, it seemed like it did then when i tried to log into my hilton account (which I knew was working and I had updated the address to australia), it seems like they blocked my account from log in. What’s up? HOw old is this posting? It’s 11/24/12 today and I am sorta new to this. THANKS!

  6. I got my Gold via this tip. I am looking forward to the New years Eve and what the status read at 00:01 or the following days.

I am going to look/search for all HHonors campaigns coming up and test every trick in the book.

What is up with Turkish Airlines and their Gold status? I heard that someone was able for a TK Gold update to HHonors to Gold. True or False?

  7. I tried both the numbers (442394-1234987654 and 411945-1234987654) – it’s saying both are invalid…

    @MMS, @Dick, and @Others,

Could you tell me how to get this to work, please?

    Thanks in advance,
    Srini

  8. Does the Gold status really last until May 2013?? I did the Australian Virtual move over the summer on one of my accounts, I don’t have any ‘stays’ or anything on the account and when I login to see the status, I see it says ‘Gold’ but underneath it reads:

“Based on nights earned this year, your 2013 tier would be Blue.

To maintain Gold status in 2013, you need 36 more nights. ”

I’m worried the Gold status will disappear as soon as January 1st, 2013 hits.

  9. @Darius,
Could you respond to my comment above, please?

Thanks in advance for your kind attention :)

    Best Wishes,
    Srini

  10. @Srini – I haven’t tried it in a while and I already have Gold status, so I’m not going to be of much help. See this post for more information.

  11. @MMS, and @LadyD,
That’s a really detailed set of instructions. It worked. Thank you :) Thanks a lot.

But is this status going to be only till the end of the year? Any idea?

  12. I’m thinking from what it says on my account, I am no longer gold as of December 31.

  13. It just worked for me. I’m Gold. Thanks.

  14. i have tried for a really great tym but it is not working out……i have tried 4119451234987654 also and the one with 4423940000000008…but it is not working it is showing invalid…could you please help..

  15. This still works by the way. Tried this last night and I got gold.

  16. @wade: how did you go about it?

i’ve been trying what people have recommended to no avail. any help would be greatly appreciated!

    thanks

  17. I followed the instructions to the letter and none of the numbers verify as a valid card number. They all say invalid card number.

@wade you are the most recent person to do it. What number did you put in to get a valid card #?

  19. I used the 4119 and I found a website that allowed you to create a card number. I’ll post that site later once I get to my home pc.

  20. @Bob here is the link to the site that gave me a working card number.

  21. @LadyD and @MMS,

Thanks a ton…this (Gold Status) really did help me…I recently stayed at Hilton Waikaloa Village in Big Island of Hawaii – and I paid $0 for my stay there….including free parking (which is usually $17 per day). They also provided me with some discount coupons and special coupons to be used at the various restaurants in that resort…as I was a Gold Member. Those coupons too worked very well in our favor.

Once again thank you @LadyD and Thank you @Darius :)

  22. Darius I think this deal is dead I tried several time and just keep getting the a timed out error on the Visa Infinite cc validation page. I used the same webpage as Wade; tried at least 10 different strings of card numbers.

  23. Bob,

I’m not going to try this fully until March (since I want status through Spring Break next year), but I did try the credit card check, and had no problems verifying.

As a tip, the first 6 digits should be as requested, but you can use any other Visa card you have (including a gift card) and it should verify.

  24. @LadyD
Thanks a ton for the detail steps.
    It worked for me.

  25. still work

  26. Weird about some people saying their status expired. Mine auto-renewed. Then again, I used a legit card and my actual home address in China. (can it tell who did a “virtual move” and who has a legit Asian address?) Of course, I’m worried about this getting in the way of me applying for a Citi card and getting the point bonus. Hmm, points or status?

  27. Successfully moved both my wife and myself yesterday Thx! Now the question is can I change the address back to the US already? or do I need to leave it in Australia to maintain the Gold status?

  29. Wanted to let everyone know this still worked for me! Will Hilton automatically send me a new gold status card or will i have to request one from them? Thanks as always

  30. Hi there. I just gave this a try per all of above comments and had no luck. (couldn’t get any of the number combinations I tried to verify)

Any other suggestions? What am I missing?

    Thanks!

  31. OK a little more Googling things and playing around and it worked. Expect a short lag (10-20 minutes) from the “congratulations” page to seeing it in your account. There was a link to a different thread above that I had missed before with a better breakdown. I also found this helpful:
    http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/travel-discussion/1199795/

And thanks for all the posts! This is going to be well worth the effort in free drinks and breakfast during my upcoming Honeymoon!

  32. I just tried and cannot get this to work. Does it still work?

  33. I did this today and it worked. Followed the instructions above.

  34. LOOULOUBELLE

I just received my Hilton Gold Card, and to my surprise, it expires 03/2015 instead of May 2013 as per promotion. My old Silver Card EXP Date was 03/2014 so I don’t know if after May I’m going to received a notificacion with a change, before that I’m planning to go and have my status on other hotels upgraded either with this or my Platinum status from Accor hotels plus burn some points I have I will recup some of the value on free breakfast and internet since there is four of us. As always thanks D. for your help! :)

  35. @LOOULOUBELLE – Your new Gold card should be active from now, so I wouldn’t worry about it.

  36. It worked for me just fine following the steps in the fatwallet link from Boss’ March 17 post above. VERY simple!

My only misstep was not doing it before I applied for the Chase Hyatt card to get the two free nights with suite upgrade by having Hyatt temporarily match my Hilton gold status to their diamond tier which must be done before applying for the Hyatt card. *#&%#@*

Looks like the temporary 60 day Diamond status match timed just before my stay at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki would at least qualify me for an upgrade to a Regency Club room based on availability at check-in.

  37. The Verify Information had four boxes and asks for 16 digits–when I put in the 6 above it says “please enter a valid visa id”

  38. Not a great idea

My Hilton account which I used this method to upgrade to Gold got flagged by Hilton yesterday and they took away the Gold status. Beware! They are on to you :-(

Hope the picture’s there… if not it just says the offer has expired and you need to call Visa Infinite.
