Update:  You can get Hilton Gold Status for free with the Citi Hilton Reserve credit card, for as long as you have the card, which could be worth it for the free breakfast and free internet.

Via Online Travel Review, you can get free Hilton Gold status until May 2013 (normally 16 stays or 36 nights)  if you make a virtual move to Australia.

Free Hilton Gold Status
Some of you may find a virtual move questionable, so do whatever you’re comfortable with.

The free internet access and the free breakfast could alone save you $20 to $30 (or more) per night and let you have Big Travel with Small Money.

The perks of Hilton  Gold status are the best, in my opinion, for a mid-tier status level:

These perks are valid even if you use points for your stay.  I would much rather have hotel elite status than airline elite status, because I usually spend more time in hotels than in airports and airplanes.

Here’s how to get instant Hilton Gold (free breakfast & internet) status:

  1. Log into your Hilton account and change your address to an Australian address (perhaps a friend or office location or c/o the local Hilton, Google will help)
  2. Log out of your Hilton account and go here to get instant Hilton Gold status
  3. Enter “442394 411945” as the 1st 6 digits of your Visa Infinite card when prompted,  and then click “Verify
  4. Enter your Hilton account number and PIN and click “Submit
  5. Congratulations on your new Hilton Gold status!
  6. Don’t forget to change your address back to the US.  It is summer in Australia, so you could extend your stay.

The terms say that this is valid only for valid Visa Infinite members, but it worked for Emily.

The free Hilton Gold status will come in very handy when we redeem the Hilton points I earned during my last app-o-rama!

I earned 170,000 Hilton points by signing up for the Bank of America Virgin Atlantic and Hawaiian Airline credit cards and transferring the points to Hilton.

I can redeem these 170,000 points for 4 nights at the highest category 7 Hilton using the 15% VIP discount on award nights for Gold elite members.  And if I had an American Express Hilton card, I would qualify for AXON awards for 145,000 Hilton points for 4 nights.

Bottom Line:  It doesn’t hurt to register for free Hilton Gold status if you’re willing to make a virtual move to Australia. Update:  You can get Hilton Gold Status for free with the Citi Hilton Reserve credit card, for as long as you have the card, which could be worth it for the free breakfast and free internet.
