I would need to disagree with one assessment or at least move them to a tie, the Marriott Cancun Resort is heads and tails better than their next door neighbor. In terms of layout and overall ease, the hotel is spectacular through and through.

Yes I know Costa Rica is not Mexico or Caribbean but from many places you can get there in 2-3 hours. HotelPuntaIslita.com is part of the Autograph Collection of Marriott and is unbelievable. Most, not all, activites are included, food is great, staff is superb! I’ve stayed here multiple times and the only downside is the remoteness. It takes about 2 1/2 hours by transfer to get here from the Liberia airport.

Everyone needs to be aware of the Saragossa (seaweed) issues in the Cancun area. They do come and go, but recently have made the beaches so bad one cannot enter the sea water. But difficult to predict in advance. Google this to see the problems.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for the heads up!

Looking forward to the newsletter.

In May, 2019, just had the best vacation of my life using points. Retired and have not stayed at a full Marriott in years, yet kept my points. After the merger, I was reclassified from no status to Platinum Elite Lifetime. Before retiring, I was often Platinum.

Used 240,000 point at the Sheraton Waikiki. Five nights. What was unusual and unexpected, upon checking, I was given 2 breakfast buffets per day. Buffet price is $36 pp, and was excellent.

Also given Concierge privileges at the best concierge lounge I have ever been in. Open 7 days a week. VG full breakfast. Many choices. Scrambled eggs, great pancakes and coffee machine . Large number of tables. Several employees constantly busing dirty plates.

Evenings. Good choice of food. Free beer and wine from taps. Great cakes.

Finally. I was given a small bag and told to fill it at a special gift shop. I put in Heineken, iced cans of coffee. Could have put in 6 to 8 Heinekens.

My room was not yet renovated, but with a great view of the swimming beach below, and Diamond Head.

Reviews complain there is no swimming beach, just a sea wall. Wrong. The Sheraton Royal Hawaiian, next door, the pink hotel shares its beach with the Sheraton Waikiki. I rented the chairs and umbrella there, and charged it to my room. Sat in front of the pink hotel. Much more picturesque beach than the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

I was shocked at how wonderful I was treated.

Thank you so much for sharing Paul 🙂 Happy to heat retirement is treating you well!
