1.   $20 Back on $300 in AMEX Gift Cards at Staples

Via Frequent Miler, when you purchase $300 or more worth of AMEX gift cards at Staples you can get a $20 Staples gift card.  The deal ends June 13, 2015.

You Can Save $20 on $300 or More in American Express Gift Cards

Remember to pay with a card that earns 5% cash back (or 5X points) at office supply stores:

  • AMEX SimplyCash – 5% cash back at US office supply stores
  • Chase Ink Bold (no longer available) – 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points (5% back) at office supply stores
  • Chase Ink Business Cash Credit Card – 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points (5% back) at office supply stores
  • Chase Ink Plus – 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points (5% back) at office supply stores

If you buy 2 $200 AMEX gift cards, you’ll pay ~$414 ($400 in gift cards + ~$14 in activation fees).  Plus, you’ll get a $20 Staples gift card and ~$21 in cash back when you pay with a card like the AMEX SimplyCash which earns 5% back at US office supply stores (~$414 in gift cards X 5% cash back).

So you could potentially come out ahead ~$27 (~$41 back – $14 in activation fees).

But that’s only if you have a use for the $20 Staples gift card.  Staples sells everyday household items like paper towels, cleaning supplies, and printer paper.  And some folks like to sell their Staples gift card online.

AMEX gift cards do NOT have a PIN number, so you can’t use them to load your AMEX Bluebird, Serve, or Target Prepaid REDcard.

You can use AMEX gift cards like a credit card at most places.  Costco only accepts AMEX cards (until April 1, 2016) so you could use your gift card there or exchange it for cash with someone who has a Costco membership.
