If you like Choice hotels, there’s a new highest-ever offer to earn up to 64,000 Choice points with the Choice Privileges® Visa Signature® Card through November 30, 2018.  The previous offer was for 40,000 Choice points, so this is an excellent deal!

Award nights at Choice hotels start at 6,000 points a night, so you can do well if you make the most of this offer and get 10+ free nights.  And you can find especially good deals in Europe, specifically in Scandinavia.  But if you’re headed where Choice hotels aren’t as good of an option, you’ll want to apply for a better hotel credit card offer.

  • Automatic Gold elite status for perks like 10% more points and a welcome gift at participating hotels
  • NO annual fee

Keep in mind there’s a 3% foreign transaction fee, so it’s not a good card to use abroad.

What You Should Know About Choice Points

Choice points have a couple of quirks.  Their hotels don’t have set award prices.  Rather, the number of points is loosely tied to cash rates.  So if there’s high demand, you might need more points for a free stay.  Award nights start at 6,000 points and go up to 35,000 points.

Choice Hotels Aren’t Fancy, but When They’re Expensive, You Can Do Well With Points

Choice points also expire after 18 months, unless you have qualifying activity.  But if you use your card every once in a while, that’s enough to reset the clock, so it shouldn’t be an issue.

Finally, Choice hotels include brands like Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, and Rodeway Inn.  They’re not fancy, and sometimes these hotels are under $100 a night.  So you won’t always get outsized value from using points.

You Can Only Book 100 Days in Advance With Points

That said, sometimes they’re expensive when they’re in great locations near major tourist sites.  So if you have a certain use in mind, you can actually save a lot of money.

Finally, you can only book Choice hotels with points up to 100 days in advance.  If you like to plan trips far out, you might find this policy too restrictive.  That said, they’re great for last-minute rooms.

Barclays issues this card.  They’re known to be particular about card approvals, especially if you already have a couple of cards with them.

And if you’re new to miles & points, there are better cards to start with because opening this one will count against your Chase 5/24 status.

It seems like Barclays doesn’t have any rules for approving this card.  So if you’ve opened lots of cards in the past couple of years, you have a shot at this one, which is good news.

Considering it’s the best deal there’s been, you might consider adding 64,000 Choice points to your collection – especially if you have a use in mind for them.
