Increased Sign-Up Bonus for LANPASS Card, Enough for Round-Trip to South America or Caribbean
Signing up for credit cards through partner links earns us a commission. Terms apply to the offers listed on this page. Here’s our full advertising policy: How we make money.
Update: The card offer in this post is no longer available. Check our Hot Deals for the latest offers.Via Reddit, through July 31, 2016, you can earn 30,000 LAN miles with the US Bank LANPASS Visa Signature card after meeting minimum spending requirements.
This could be an interesting option for folks who already have a lot of cards, need miles for short-haul flights, or are planning a trip to South America.
But this is NOT a good card if you’re new to the hobby of miles & points. Because there are better cards that offer higher sign-up bonuses and more flexible miles and points.
Emily and I don’t earn a commission on this offer, but we’ll always tell you about the best deals.
I’ll show you who should consider this card and what you can do with 30,000 LAN miles!

The normal sign-up bonus for the LANPASS Visa Signature card is 20,000 LAN miles.
But through July 31, 2016, you can earn 30,000 LAN miles (48,000 LAN kilometers) after you spend $2,500 within 120 days of opening your account.
You’ll also get:
- 2X LAN miles on purchased LATAM tickets
- 1 LAN mile for every $1 spent
- 3 one-way upgrade coupons each year on LATAM
- 4,000 LAN miles with card renewal
- 20% discount (up to $1,000) on your first LATAM purchase once per year
- 25% bonus LAN miles on flights
The $75 annual fee is waived the first year. But the card charges 3% in foreign transaction fees, so it isn’t good to use overseas.
Should You Get This Card?
The LANPASS Visa Signature card is NOT the best card for beginners. Because when you’re new to miles & points, I always suggest getting any Chase cards you want first. That’s because if you’ve applied for ~5+ cards from any bank (except these business cards) in the past 24 months, it’s unlikely you’ll be approved for most Chase cards.
And the Chase Sapphire Preferred is my favorite card for beginners, because it earns flexible Chase Ultimate Rewards points.
You can read my post about the top 5 cards for beginners here. But, if you already have the Chase cards you want and South America is on your “must see” list, this could be a great option. Because the increased sign-up bonus is enough for a round-trip ticket from the US to many popular spots in South America and the Caribbean too!
What Can You Do With 30,000 LAN Miles?

With the 30,000 LAN miles limited-time increased sign-up bonus on the LANPASS Visa Signature card, you’ll earn enough miles for a round-trip flight from the US to:
- Cancun
- Caribbean
- Colombia
- Ecuador
- Havana
- Peru
That’s because a round-trip coach ticket using LAN miles from the US to Colombia costs 23,750 LAN miles (38,000 LAN kilometers). And 30,000 LAN miles (48,000 LAN kilometers) from the US to spots like Peru, Ecuador, and Punta Cana.
Just remember, you can NOT use LAN miles for one-way tickets.
You Can Get a Good Deal on Short Domestic Flights
As part of the oneworld alliance, you can also use LAN miles on partner airlines like British Airways, American Airlines, and Iberia. And LAN uses a distance based award chart for flights on partner airlines, with each way of your round-trip priced individually. So short-haul flights on American Airlines, for example, can be quite cheap! Especially now that British Airways has increased the number of miles you need for short-haul award tickets.Let’s say you want to fly round-trip from Orlando to Miami. Using British Airways Avios points, it would cost 7,500 miles each way (15,000 British Airways Avios points round-trip).
This same trip would only cost 3,750 LAN miles (6,000 LAN kilometers) each way. Or 7,500 LAN miles round-trip.
That’s half the price of a round-trip ticket using British Airways Avios miles! You can read my full review of the card here. It includes more about the LANPASS Visa Signature card’s other perks, like the upgrade coupons, 25% bonus LAN miles on flights, and 4,000 LAN miles on your card anniversary.
Bottom Line
Through July 31, 2016, you’ll earn 30,000 LAN miles (48,000 LAN kilometers) with the LANPASS Visa Signature card after you spend $2,500 in purchases within 120 days of account opening. That’s a good offer, because 30,000 LAN miles is enough for a round-trip coach ticket from the US to many LAN destinations in the Caribbean and South America, including Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. And you can use LAN miles on oneworld partner airlines, like American Airlines. But this is NOT the best deal for newbies to the hobby. Because there are better cards with higher sign-up bonuses and more flexible miles and points.
