I have a trip to Thailand coming up and along with paying for things like airfare and hotels, I have to pay for a dog sitter.  It’s a long trip and I don’t want to burden a friend with the responsibility.  So I decided to use Rover.com, as I’ve done in the past.

Paying a petsitter for 2 weeks is NOT cheap, so I was excited to take advantage of the recent deal from Amazon and AMEX.  With the offer, you could get $30 off orders of $60+ for using least 1 AMEX Membership Rewards point to pay for part of your purchase.  And even better, it worked on gift cards!

I used AMEX Membership Rewards points that I earned with The Business Platinum® Card from American Express to save a total of $120.  Deals like this are one of the dozens of reasons I love earning flexible rewards like AMEX Membership Rewards points.

Here’s more about how this particular offer worked.  And how you can get targeted for deals like these in the future!

Finding Someone to Take Care of Your (Pet) Baby While You’re Away Can Often Be a Substantial Expense

Save Cash With AMEX Membership Rewards Points

Anytime Amazon publishes a deal like this I check each of my accounts to see if I’m targeted.  This time around, I was able to take advantage of it on four separate accounts!

I bought four $60 Rover.com gift cards, used a single AMEX Membership Rewards point on each order, and saved a total of $120 ($30 savings X 4 orders).

This particular deal didn’t require a Prime membership.  Between me and my family, we have multiple Amazon accounts but only pay for Prime on one of them.

There You Have It. I Got 50% Off Using a Single AMEX Membership Rewards Point!

It’s worth noting that you shouldn’t normally use AMEX Membership Rewards points for Amazon purchases.  Because they’re more valuable when you transfer them to airline and hotel partners.  You can check out our guide to traveling with AMEX Membership Rewards points to learn more!

What Can You Do to Be Targeted for Deals Like This?

I’ve found that the key to being targeted for these kinds of deals is to have the right credit cards attached to your Amazon account.  For example, I have my Business Platinum® Card from American Express loaded as a payment method.

We’ve also seen similar offers for using Citi ThankYou points and Chase Ultimate Rewards points.  Again, making many of the best credit cards for travel even more valuable!

Have you ever used your flexible rewards points to save with deals like this?  I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
