If you like to fly Delta, there are 2 new card offers you should know about.  Through November 7, 2018, you can earn 70,000 Delta miles and 10,000 Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQMs) with the Delta Reserve® Credit Card from American Express and Delta Reserve® for Business Credit Card from American Express, after completing the minimum spending requirements.

These are the highest offers we’ve seen for these cards!  They’re worth $700 toward Delta flights when you Pay With Miles, and potentially much more when you book award flights.

But, there’s a $450 annual fee with both cards.  So these deals with appeal to folks who already fly Delta and like the benefits.

The information for the Delta Reserve® Credit Card from American Express has been collected independently by Million Mile Secrets.  The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

  • 20% savings on eligible in-flight purchases in the form of a statement credit
  • First checked bag free on Delta operated flights (for you and up to 8 companions traveling on the same itinerary)
  • Complimentary Delta Sky Club® Access ($495 value!)
  • Delta Reserve domestic companion certificate (when you renew your card)
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Terms and limitations apply

Both cards come with a $450 annual fee, which is NOT waived.

These Offers Are Worth at Least $700

AMEX Delta Reserve, Platinum, and Gold cardholders can use Pay with Miles to redeem Delta miles for 1 cent each toward paid Delta flights!  So this bonus is worth at least $700 in Delta airfare, without blackout dates.  You can use them for any Delta flight you find on their website.

But you can get even more value if you use your miles to book award flights.  Low-level domestic awards start at only 10,000 Delta miles round-trip!  These awards are generally for shorter routes, but they can be a great deal.

Save Your Delta Miles for a Flash Sale to Visit a Fun New City, Like Seattle for Under 10,000 Miles on Certain Routes

Delta has also been running incredible flash sales, including:

  • 35,000 Delta miles between Los Angeles and Shanghai
  • 15,000 Delta miles between Seattle and Chicago
  • Under 10,000 Delta miles for city pairs all over the US!

You can do well to book expensive award flights using Delta miles, so this bonus could easily be worth much more!

Should You Consider These Cards?

The elephant in the room is the $450 annual fee.  The most lucrative card benefits are Delta Sky Club® access, which usually costs $495 per year, and the 10,000 Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQMs) you’ll earn as part of the welcome offer, because they count toward elite status.

You can also save a lot of money with up to 9 checked baggage waivers per flight.  Considering it now costs $30 to check a bag, you could save a maximum of $270 in baggage fees per flight.

However, the checked bag perk comes with other (cheaper) Delta cards, so I’d consider this a nice extra instead of a main reason to get these cards.

Access to Delta SkyClubs for Relaxing, Free Drinks, and Ample Seating Is the Main Reason to Get This Card

Keep in mind, that effective January 1, 2019, you must be flying on a Delta-operated (or coded) flight to access the Sky Clubs.  And only the cardholder can access the lounges for free.  You can bring 2 guests with you for a discounted rate of $29 per person (and kids under 2 can enter with you for free).

Considering all the card’s benefits are focused on Delta offerings, like their lounges, elite status, and checked bag waivers, folks who already fly Delta often and value the perks can do well with this card.  The Sky Club access alone covers the card’s annual fee.  But it’s only valuable if you’ll use it!

Who Can Apply for This Card?

AMEX awards welcome bonuses on each card once per lifetime.  So if you’ve never had either of these cards, you are eligible to earn the bonuses – even if you’ve earned offers on other AMEX Delta cards before!

AMEX considers each Delta card a different card product.  So you can earn the welcome offers for each Delta card.

And AMEX small business cards do NOT appear on your personal credit report.  So opening the Delta Reserve® for Business Credit Card from American Express won’t count toward your Chase “5/24” status!

Finally, AMEX will only let you have 4 or 5 of their credit card products, including these cards.  You can close another card if you want to open one of these, though.  It might be worthwhile if you fly Delta and want to earn a nice amount of Delta miles!

Bottom Line

You can earn 70,000 Delta miles and 10,000 Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQMs) with the Delta Reserve® Credit Card from American Express and Delta Reserve® for Business Credit Card from American Express after completing the spending requirements.  These offers are available through November 7, 2018.

Both bonuses are worth $700 toward Delta flights when you Pay with Miles.  But you can often do much better using them for award flights!

The best perks of these cards are Delta Sky Club® access, MQMs which count toward elite status, and a free checked bag on Delta flights.  But because of the $450 annual fee, folks with loyalty to Delta will get the most out of the benefits.

If you haven’t card either card before, you can earn the welcome bonus on them.  And the Delta Reserve® for Business Credit Card from American Express won’t affect  your Chase 5/24 status!
