Here’s what you need to know.

Changes to the Citi American Airlines Cards

The most notable change to the Citi American Airlines cards is the limited-time offer on the Citi American Airlines Executive card.  That currently comes with the biggest welcome bonus of any of the cards!

Citi American Airlines Executive Card

Apply Here:   Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite™ Mastercard®

For a limited time, the sign-up bonus on the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite™ Mastercard® has been increased to 75,000 American Airlines miles after you spend $7,500 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account.  That’s the BIGGEST sign-up bonus being offered by any of the American Airlines cards right now.

The $450 annual fee is NOT waived for the first year.

But if you can make the most of the card’s perks, namely the Admirals Club membership (worth up to $550), it’s a much better offer than the usual 50,000-mile sign-up bonus (which had a lower minimum spending requirement).

In addition to the big welcome bonus, you’ll get benefits like:

  • 2 American Airlines miles per $1 spent with American Airlines
  • 1 American Airlines mile per $1 you spend on everything else
  • 10,000 elite-qualifying miles if you spend $40,000 or more on the card in a calendar year
  • Admirals Club membership for you and access for guests traveling with you (including immediate family members or up to 2 guests)
  • Complimentary Admirals Club access for authorized users
  • No foreign transaction fees

Plus, perks like up to $100 Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee credit (every 5 years).  And your first checked bag free (for you and up to 8 companions traveling on the same reservation) on American Airlines domestic itineraries.

Citi American Airlines Business Platinum Card

Apply Here:   CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Mastercard®

The sign-up bonus on the Citi American Airlines Business Platinum card is back up to 70,000 American Airlines miles after spending $4,000 on purchases within the first 4 months of account opening.  This is a limited-time offer.

Along with the valuable sign-up bonus, you’ll have access to perks like:

  • 2 American Airlines miles per $1 spent on American Airlines flights
  • 2 American Airlines miles per $1 spent on certain telecommunications, rental car merchants, and at gas stations
  • 1 American Airlines mile per $1 spent on allother purchases

There’s a special benefit for big spenders, too.  You’ll earn an American Airlines companion certificate after you spend $30,000 or more in purchases during your card year and renew your card.  Plus, the card’s $99 annual fee is waived for the first year!

This card is definitely a good choice for small business owners looking to pad their Amercian Airlines frequent flyer accounts.

Citi American Airlines Platinum Card

Apply Here:   Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite™ Mastercard®

The welcome bonus on the Citi American Airlines Platinum card has decreased a little.  You’ll earn 50,000 American Airlines miles for spending $2,500 on purchases within the first 3 months of opening your account.  And the card was previously offering a 60,000-mile sign-up bonus after meeting minimum spending requirements.

That said, you’ll still get great benefits like:

  • 2 American Airlines miles per $1 spent on American Airlines purchases
  • 2 American Airlines miles per $1 spent at gas stations and restaurants
  • 1 American Airlines mile per $1 spent on other purchases

The $99 annual fee IS waived the first year.  And big spenders can earn a $100 American Airlines flight discount after spending $20,000 or more in purchases during your card year and renewing your card.

Just remember, Citi will NOT let you earn the sign-up bonus from more than one personal card of the same “brand” within 24 months.  You can read more about Citi’s application rules here.

We’ll post a full review of these new offers in the coming days.  To help you decide which might make sense for you!

Bottom Line

There are limited-time offers on both the Citi American Airlines Executive card and Citi American Airlines Business Platinum card.  The welcome bonus on the personal Citi American Airlines Platinum card has decreased.

With the Citi American Airlines Executive card, you can earn 75,000 bonus American Airlines miles after spending $7,500 within the first 3 months of account opening.  The card’s $450 annual fee is NOT waived the first year.  So it makes the most sense for anyone who can take advantage of the Admirals Club access that comes with card membership.

The Citi American Airlines Business Platinum card is currently offering a 70,000-mile sign-up bonus after spending $4,000 within the first 4 months of account opening.  It’s $99 annual fee is waived the first year, so it’s a great choice for business owners because the welcome bonus alone could be worth thousands in airfare!
