One of the best American Express credit card perks is the annual airline statement credit.

This is a valuable and easy to use benefit that comes with AMEX cards like:

When you open the card you can choose which airline, from a list of 9, your credit will apply to.  And each year in January, you get to choose a different airline.  If you want your choice to stay the same you don’t have to do anything, but if you want to make a change you’ll need to do so by January 31, 2019.

AMEX Statement Credits Are Just One of the Perks That Can Make Paying an Annual Fee Worth It

Choose Your AMEX Designated Airline for Your Annual Credit

You can change your selected airline by logging into your AMEX account or calling the number on the back of your card.  You can choose one of these airlines for your credit:

  • Alaska Airlines
  • American Airlines
  • Delta
  • Frontier Airlines
  • Hawaiian Airlines
  • JetBlue
  • Southwest
  • Spirit
  • United Airlines

You can use the credit for:

  • Checked baggage
  • In-flight food or beverages
  • Lounge day passes
  • Change or cancellation fees
  • Seat assignments or upgrades
  • And many other airline fees

If you happen to have The Business Platinum® Card from American Express choosing the right airline is even more important because you’ll get an extra benefit.  With this card, when you use the AMEX Pay With Points feature to purchase airfare through the AMEX travel portal you’ll get a 35% points rebate on all Business and First Class tickets.  And you’ll get the same 35% points rebate on all coach flights booked with your selected airline through the AMEX travel portal using the Pay With Points feature.
