Lufthansa is a Star Alliance member, so you can use Lufthansa miles to book flights on United Airlines (or any other Star Alliance airline).
Note: You can NOT combine your Lufthansa miles with United Airlines miles to book an award ticket! The Lufthansa Star Alliance award chart shows you the number of miles required for award flights. Or you can use the Mileage Calculator to check how many miles you need.
50,000 Lufthansa miles is enough for 2 round-trip coach award flights to anywhere within the continental US or Alaska on partner United Airlines. Note: The award chart shows round-trip partner flights in North America as 30,000 Lufthansa miles round-trip. But if your flight is entirely within the US (except Hawaii), the price is 25,000 Lufthansa miles round-trip.See my post about redeeming Lufthansa miles to learn about their other award chart quirks!
40,000 Lufthansa miles is enough for a round-trip, low-level award flight from the US Mainland to Hawaii on United Airlines. You will NOT pay fuel surcharges using Lufthansa miles on United Airlines within the US.Mileage Bargains

The Barclaycard Miles & More Premier World Elite MasterCard can be a great deal for lots of folks. If you already have cards with other banks, you might consider this offer if you don’t already have many cards with Barclaycard.
The regular offer on this card is 35,000 Lufthansa miles. And it hasn’t been this high since Summer 2015. So if you’ve been considering this card, now is a great time to apply!
But if you’re new to miles & points, there are other cards I recommend over this one.
The Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite Mastercard might be a better choice for folks who want flexibility or who aren’t sure of their travel plans.
Keep in mind Barclaycard typically only allows folks to sign-up for 1 to 2 of their cards per year.
Bottom Line
The sign-up bonus on the Barclaycard Miles & More Premier World Elite MasterCard has increased to a total of 50,000 Lufthansa miles after meeting minimum spending requirements.
