Have you been paying attention to American Airlines‘ latest ongoing promotion, Daily Deals? They are essentially flash sales flights for select routes, and the discounts last just one day. The deals thus far haven’t always been stunners, but you can bookmark this page and we’ll update this post when we see a deal you absolutely must know about.
For example, American has offered a 40% discount on popular domestic routes. Before that, American offered a “bring your kids to the Caribbean for free” deal. They recently dropped prices to top ski destinations.
Today, American is running a sale on flights to popular national parks, with fares starting from $49. I’ll tell you what you need to know about this deal. And be sure to book your flights with one of the best credit cards for travel insurance — winter travel can be tricky.
Super cheap flights to national parks
You’ve only got until midnight on Jan. 11, 2021, to book this deal. If you’re rotting away in your apartment and you’ve been feverishly searching for a cheap flight to anywhere, American will give you a whopper of a discount on flights to airports near some of the best national parks in the U.S.
The discount is only valid for nonstop flights originating in the contiguous 48 U.S. states to the following cities:
- Bozeman (BZN)
- Jackson Hole (JAC)
- Flagstaff (FLG)
- Fresno (FAT)
- Denver (DEN)
- Redmond (RDM)
- Missoula (MSO)
- Boise (BOI)
Those airports allow for a smattering of different national parks to visit — from Yellowstone to the Grand Canyon. Here are the pertinent details for this promo:
- You must book your flight on Jan. 11, 2021, from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. CT
- Travel must occur between April 6 and May 6, 2021
- Valid on nonstop flights operated by American Airlines and American Eagle (no codeshare flights)
- Valid for both one-way and round-trip bookings
It’s also worth noting that not every nonstop AA flight to these airports is dramatically discounted, but most appear to be. You can use the Flight Connections website to filter by airport and airline. Type in the airport you wish to visit, then see if American offers any nonstop service to a nearby airport.
These low fares combine well with flexible points from cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve®. You’d need just 3,300 Chase Ultimate Rewards to book a $49 one-way flight on American through the Chase Travel Portal.
If you do pay cash for a ticket (this also works if you pay the taxes on an award ticket), make sure to pay with a card that has trip delay insurance since you may encounter flight delays due to winter storms. It could save you tons of cash if you do encounter disruptions.
