The valuations one can get from U.S. short-hauls, or flights to Europe or Hawaii, are okay…but I’ve gotten considerable value from Avios for short-haul flights within S. America on LATAM. The cash prices on those can be quite high, and they’re practically all within the lowest price range bands. Same with flights within Japan on JAL (e.g. Tokyo to/from Hiroshima @ 4,500 one-way + $2.50 U.S. for a currently $332 priced flight).
