I’ll show how to use miles from one or more of these sign-up bonuses to visit Europe.

1.   Pay With Miles

If you aren’t interested in searching for available award seats and navigating blackout dates, Delta’s Pay with Miles is an easy and flexible way to book flights to Europe.  And only AMEX Delta cardmembers are eligible!

With Pay with Miles, you can redeem Delta miles at a rate of 1 cent per mile towards paid (NOT award) tickets.  So the increased 70,000 Delta mile sign-up bonus on the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express or the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express is worth $700 toward paid flights with no blackout dates!

And the increased 60,000 Delta mile sign-up bonus on the Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express or the Gold Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express is worth $600 towards paid flights!

For example, round-trip coach flights from Chicago to Amsterdam in February 2018 cost ~$412.  So one sign-up bonus from any of the increased AMEX Delta offers easily gets you a round-trip to Europe (with miles left over)!

Europe With Delta Miles
Using Pay with Miles, a Round-Trip Flight to Europe Costs Only 40,000 Delta Miles Plus ~$12!

In this case, you could almost book 2 round-trip flights with just one 70,000 mile sign-up bonus!  You’ll earn extra miles from meeting the minimum spending requirements.  And you could top-off your account by transferring your AMEX Membership Rewards points to Delta.

Or use the miles you have to pay for most of the tickets.  With Pay With Miles, you can partially pay for your flight with miles, and the balance with cash.

Keep in mind that you must redeem in 5,000 mile ($50) increments.  So, for example, if your ticket costs $412, it makes the most sense to only redeem 40,000 Delta miles ($400) and pay the rest in cash.

Pay with Miles is not always the best value, but if you can find cheap flights, it’s an easy way to use miles without searching for available award seats.

2.   Round-Trip Award Tickets in Coach

Flights to some popular European cities can be very expensive when you pay cash.  But round-trip award flights on Delta start at 60,000 Delta miles!

I found coach flights between Atlanta and Paris in January 2018 for 60,000 Delta miles plus ~$85 in taxes and fees.  And it’s easy to use Delta’s website book award travel.

Round-Trip Coach Flights From Atlanta to Paris in February Cost 60,000 Delta Miles

This same flight would cost ~$1,248 if you paid cash!  After you subtract the taxes and fees needed for the award flight, you save ~$1,163 on your trip (~$1,248 cash price – $85 taxes and fees).

Save Big Money on Expensive Flights to Europe by Booking an Award Flight Instead

In this case, your Delta miles are worth ~1.9 cents each (~$1,248 cash price / 60,000 miles).  That’s a far better value than using Pay With Miles.

3.   One-Way Award Ticket in Business Class

If you’re looking to cross the pond in style, the sign-up bonus from the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express or the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express is enough for a one-way flight to Europe in Business Class.

I searched for one-way Business Class flights from Raleigh-Durham to London, and found tons of available award seats in February and March 2018 for 70,000 Delta miles.

Europe With Delta Miles
Take Your Pick! Travel in Style Across the Atlantic in Business Class for 70,000 Delta Miles

Most of these flights normally cost ~$6,377!  Many folks would never pay that much for a one-way flight to Europe, so this is an excellent opportunity to treat yourself to a more comfortable experience on a long transatlantic flight.  On this particular flight, your miles would be worth a whopping ~9 cents each ($6,377 cash price / 70,000 miles).  That’s an amazing deal.

Bottom Line

Through November 8, 2017, the AMEX Delta cards are offering their highest-ever sign-up bonuses!

You’ll earn 60,000 Delta miles after meeting minimum spending requirements with the Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express or the Gold Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express.

Or 70,000 Delta miles after meeting the minimum spending requirements with the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express and the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express.

If you can find cheap coach flights, you can use Delta Pay with Miles to book a paid ticket.  You may find flights to Europe for as low as ~$400 or 40,000 Delta miles round-trip!

If cheaper coach flights are not available, you can pay 60,000 Delta miles round-trip for coach award flights to Europe.  And 70,000 Delta miles for one-way Business Class flights.

Where will you travel with the increased Delta card sign-up bonuses?
