The best cash back credit card for your business is only a click away!  You’ve got plenty of great options, but which one is right for you?

Right now there are several cards that have HUGE cash bonuses and no annual fees!  But the intro bonus isn’t the only factor to consider when you’re making your choice.  You’ll also want to be sure you’re maximizing the rewards you earn for your business expenses.  Because running a business is hard enough as it is, and every little bit counts!

Something as Simple as Renting Out Your Spare Hippy Bus on Airbnb Could Qualify You for a Small Business Card!

So we’re here to help you pick the right cash back credit card for your business.  If you’re looking for a personal cash back credit card, then check out this article.

Picking the Best Cash Back Business Credit Cards

The best rewards credit card for your business will depend a lot on what your main expenses are.  First, you’ll need to have a thorough understanding of your business expenses.  And we’re here to help with the next step!

We’ve picked apart the strengths (and drawbacks!) of each of the cards on our list and placed our top choices into easy to understand categories.

Here Are the Best Cash Back Business Credit Cards

How We Chose the Best Cash Back Business Credit Cards

When you’re looking for the best cash back card for your small business, there’s a lot of marketing fluff to wade through.  There are tons of big flashy advertisements for credit cards, but what’s it really like when the rubber meets the road?

We put in the time and did the research, even going through the fine print to pick apart the best deals.  But we aren’t just talking about theory, most of the Million Mile Secrets team members have their own small businesses.  And we currently hold and use many of the cards we’re talking about!

We can take your hand and help you navigate the choices, so you won’t end up with buyers remorse.  When you’re considering a deal you’ll want to make sure you pay attention to several key factors, like:

  • Welcome bonus:   Banks entice folks like you and me to apply for their credit cards with headline-grabbing bonuses!  And a big welcome bonus can make a card a great deal.  But the intro bonus is NOT the only thing you should look at when applying for a card.  Because you could be missing out on HUGE savings down the road!
  • Minimum spending requirements:   You’ve gotta give a little to get a little.  And that attractive bonus isn’t going to automatically show up in your account.  You’ll need to meet a minimum spending requirement within a certain time frame to qualify for the intro bonus.  You won’t want to spend more than you normally would just to meet a minimum spending requirement.  So if you can’t comfortably meet a card’s minimum spending, then hold off on applying until you can.  I like to apply for new business credit cards just before I’ve got big expenses coming up, like quarterly taxes.
  • Cash back earning rate:   It’s important to know how much cash back you’ll be earning per $1 spent.  And you’ll want to be aware of which categories earn extra bonus rewards, so you can be sure you’re using the right card for every purchase.
  • Perks, quirks & fees:   Cash back business credit cards come in all sorts of flavors.  Some have no annual fees, while other cards have an annual fee, but typically have more valuable perks that can easily make the fee worth paying.  Some cards come with extra insurance for certain activities, like renting a car.  So we’ll let you know all the hidden benefits of each card.

Do You Qualify for Small Business Cards?  The Answer Might Surprise You!

Think you don’t qualify for a small business credit card?  Not so fast!  You don’t need to own a coffee shop or be a founder of the latest tech start-up to earn lucrative rewards from small business credit cards!

You can be a part-time freelancer or independent contractor and qualify.  Even side-gigs, like selling on Etsy or eBay could be enough to qualify you for a small business card.  You’ll just have to be able to show that you’re operating a for-profit venture.

Plus, you might not need to have an EIN (Employer Identification Number) because if you’re a sole proprietor, you can apply using your social security number as your business tax ID on the application.  And oftentimes, you can use your own name as the legal business name!

You Don’t Have to Own an Local Coffee Roaster, Like My Friend Matt, to Qualify for a Small Business Credit Card

Even if you’re just starting your business, that’s okay.  Most banks do NOT have minimum business income requirements for opening business credit cards.  And you typically don’t need to have a pre-existing business banking relationship.  So you’re usually eligible to apply for business credit cards even if you have your business checking and savings accounts with a different bank!

But, to qualify for the best cash back business credit cards, you’ll probably need a credit score of 700+.  If you’re not sure what your credit score is, you can check it for free on myBankrate.  Although banks will take more into consideration than just your credit score when reviewing your application.  So even a high score won’t guarantee your approval.

Just remember, it’s important to pay off your balance in full every month!  Because you don’t want to be stuck paying hefty fees & interest.

Our Review:   Review of the Chase Ink Business Cash card

With the Chase Ink Business Cash card, you’ll earn $500 cash back (50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points!) after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.  That’s a spectacular welcome bonus for a no-annual-fee credit card.

And you’ll be able to earn great bonuses on certain purchases, too.  You’ll earn:

  • 5% cash back (5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points) on the first $25,000 spent in combined purchases at office supply stores and on phone, internet, and cable services each account anniversary year
  • 2% cash back (2X Chase Ultimate Rewards points) on the first $25,000 spent in combined purchases at gas stations and restaurants each account anniversary year
  • 1% cash back (1X Chase Ultimate Rewards point) on all other purchases

So if you spend a lot on the card’s bonus categories, like office supply stores or at gas stations, you can really rack up the rewards!  My wife has had this card for 4+ years for her freelance art business.  We use it to buy all of her shipping supplies from office supply stores.

Purchase Items Like Shipping Supplies at Office Supply Stores With Your Chase Ink Business Cash Card and You’ll Earn 5% Cash Back!

The Chase Ultimate Rewards points you earn with the Chase Ink Business Cash card can be redeemed for 1 cent each as cash back or toward travel.  But your rewards can be even more valuable if you have either the Chase Sapphire Preferred® CardChase Sapphire Reserve®Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card.

You can pool your points with one of those cards, then transfer them to Chase’s travel partners, like Singapore Airlines, United Airlines, or Hyatt!  Having this ability unlocks lots of valuable options because you’ll be able to book expensive Business Class seats or luxury hotels with your rewards.  This can save you $1,000s in travel expenses!

And if you pool your Chase Ultimate Rewards points, they are worth more when you use them to book travel through the Chase Travel Portal!

Being Able to Transfer Your Chase Ultimate Rewards Points to Travel Partners Makes Them Much More Valuable!

Your Chase Ultimate Rewards points are worth:

That means the rewards you earn with the Chase Ink Business Cash card, can be worth 25% to 50% more if you pair it with one of the above Chase credits cards!

You’ll also get primary car rental insurance when renting for business purposes when you pay with your Chase Ink Business Cash card.  This will cover rental car damage due to collision or theft.

Plus benefits like:

  • Extended Warranty – Extends the eligible U.S. manufacturer’s warranties by an additional year, on eligible warranties of 3 years or less when you make the purchase with your card.
  • Purchase Protection –  Covers eligible new purchases, made with your card, for 120 days from damage or theft up to $10,000 per claim and $50,000 per account
  • Free employee cards – You set the spending limits

Just remember, Chase has stricter application rules than other banks.  They will not approve you for most of their cards if you’ve opened 5+ cards from any bank (NOT counting Chase business cards and these other business cards) in the past 24 months.  This is known as the Chase “5/24” rule and the Chase Ink Business Cash card is limited by it.

Our Review:   Review of the Chase Ink Business Unlimited card

The Chase Ink Business Unlimited card is similar to the Chase Ink Business Cash card.  The biggest difference is that it doesn’t have any bonus categories.  Instead, you’ll earn 1.5% cash back (1.5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points) on every purchase with no yearly limits!

With this card, you can earn a $500 cash bonus (50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points) when you spend $3,000 on purchases during the first 3 months from account opening.  Again, that is a great intro bonus for a card with no annual fee.

This is the no-annual-fee cash back business credit card I recommend most to my friends and family that have businesses.  Because you’ll be earning a higher cash back rate on every purchase, regardless of how much you spend per year.  And most businesses have lots of large expenses that don’t fall neatly into narrowly defined bonus categories.

The Chase Ink Business Unlimited Card Has a Trick Up Its Sleeve That Will Make Its Rewards More Value for Travel Redemptions!

And just like with the Chase Ink Business Cash card, you can pool the Chase Ultimate Rewards points you earn onto an eligible Chase credit card and then transfer them to Chase’s travel partners!

You’ll also get these perks with the card:

  • Extended Warranty – Extends the eligible U.S. manufacturer’s warranties by an additional year, on eligible warranties of 3 years or less when you make the purchase with your card.
  • Purchase Protection –  Covers eligible new purchases, made with your card, for 120 days from damage or theft up to $10,000 per claim and $50,000 per account
  • Rental car insurance –  Primary insurance for theft or collision damage when you rent for business purposes, decline the rental companies collision insurance, and  charge the entire rental to your card.
  • Free employee cards – You set the spending limits.

The Chase Ink Business Unlimited card is impacted by the Chase “5/24” rule, so you’re not likely to be approved if you’ve opened 5+ cards from any bank (NOT counting Chase business cards and these other business cards) in the past 24 months.  But you can still have this card even if you have other Chase business cards like the Chase Ink Business Preferred or Chase Ink Business Cash card.

Best Cash Back Business Credit Card for No Foreign Transaction Fees:   Capital One® Spark® Cash for Business

Our Review:   Review of the Capital One Spark Cash Business card

Folks love the Capital One Spark Cash Business card because you earn unlimited 2% cash back on every purchase!  It doesn’t get any simpler than that!

With this card, you’ll also earn a $500 cash bonus after spending $4,500 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.  That matches the highest bonus of any card on this list!

You Can Save Money on Octopus Treats in Japan Because You Won’t Be Paying Foreign Transaction Fees

This is a great card for paying your taxes because you can actually make a small profit!  In order to pay your taxes with a credit card, you’ll have to use an approved payment service.

These services charge fees as little as 1.87% for the payments.  Because the Capital One Spark Cash Business card earns 2% cash back on these purchases, you’ll be making a profit of .13% just for paying your taxes!  It’s not much, but every little bit counts.

You can also use the card to save money with these perks:

  • Car rental collision damage waiver – Insurance for damage from theft or collision when you rent an eligible car with your card.  This coverage is primary when the rental car is for business purposes and secondary when you rent a car with the card for personal use.
  • Purchase protection – 90 days of coverage against damage or theft when you purchase eligible items entirely with your card.
  • Extended warranty – Doubles the length of the manufacturer’s warranty (up to 1 additional year) on original warranties of less than 3 years.

The card does have a $95 annual fee, but it is waived the first year.

Our Review:   Review of the Capital One Spark Cash Select Business card

This card earns a $200 bonus after you spend $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months.  And you’ll earn unlimited 1.5% cash back with every purchase.

The Capital One Spark Cash Select Business card doesn’t have an annual fee.  So if you’re just starting your business and won’t be able to meet the higher minimum spending requirement of the Capital One Spark Cash Business card, then this is a great alternative.  And it has no foreign transaction fees!  So it’s a great card to use overseas.

The Spark Cash Select Business Card Is Great for Businesses That Are Small or Just Starting Out

This is also a good no-annual-fee credit card for folks who are over the Chase “5/24” limit and still want to earn 1.5% cash back on all their business purchases.

But, if you’re under the Chase 5/24, then I suggest applying for the Chase Ink Business Unlimited card instead.  Because the Chase Ink Business Unlimited has a bigger intro bonus for the same minimum spending requirement.  And you’ll still get 1.5% cash back everywhere with no annual fee!

Best Cash Back Business Credit Card for Bonus Categories (Big Spenders):   SimplyCash® Plus Business Credit Card from American Express

Our Review:   Review of the AMEX SimplyCash Plus Business card

The AMEX SimplyCash Plus Business card is an absolute no-annual-fee rock star when it comes to cash back bonus categories!

You’ll earn:

  • 5% cash back at US office supply stores & on wireless telephone service purchased directly from US service providers on purchases up to $50,000 per calendar year (1% after that)
  • 3% cash back in 1 of 8 categores you choose on purchases up to $50,000 per calendar year (1% after that)
  • 1% cash back on all other purchases.
  • Terms and limitations apply

The AMEX SimplyCash Plus Business card’s 5% cash back category is similar to the Chase Ink Business Cash Card’s 5% bonus category, but you’ll earn the bonus on an extra $25,000 of purchases per calendar year.  That’s an another $1,250 in cash back a year ($25,000 in purchases X 5%)!  So big spenders can make out like bandits with this card.

One of the best features of this card is that you can choose your 3% cash back category.  And you can change that category once per year, so you’ll have the flexibility to earn great rewards as your business changes!

The Flexibility to Change Your Bonus Categories Each Year Sets the AMEX SimplyCash Plus Business Card Apart From the Competition

After getting your card, you’ll have 2 months to pick your bonus category.  And then, each year between December 1 and January 31, you can change your 3% cash back category to one of the following:

  • Airfare purchased directly from airlines
  • Hotel rooms purchased directly from hotels
  • Car rentals purchased from select car rental companies
  • US gas stations
  • US restaurants
  • US purchases for advertising on select media
  • US purchases for shipping
  • US computer hardware, software, and cloud computing purchases made directly from select providers

One of the secret benefits of AMEX business credit cards is that they don’t show up on your personal credit report.  So they won’t count toward your Chase 5/24 limit.  Which means getting this card will NOT limit your options in the future!

It isn’t currently offering a welcome bonus.  In the past, it’s had a $500 bonus.  And because AMEX limits you to earning the intro bonus on a card to once per lifetime, you’ll be better off waiting to apply for this card when it has a bonus again.
