There are 30+ hotels in Hawaii where you can redeem Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, or Starwood points!
I haven’t personally stayed at all these hotels, but they have great reviews! Let me know if you’ve had an experience with any of them!
1. The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua
The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua is a great choice if you’d like to watch breathtaking sunsets, play golf, or enjoy terrific food.
Kapalua is a magnificent area located on the coast in Maui. The ~1 hour drive to this hotel along the Hawaiian coastline offers some of the most beautiful views.
Emily and I stayed ~15 minutes from this hotel when we took a 7-day trip to Maui. So you’ll be close to many of the places we visited like Lahaina and Black Rock.
There’s no shortage of positive reviews for this hotel on TripAdvisor. 1,700+ folks have rated this hotel as excellent. They mention the spacious hotel rooms and phenomenal food at the 6 restaurants, like Kai Sushi.
You’ll pay 60,000 Ritz-Carlton points for a free night at this hotel. But if you collect Starwood points, you can convert 20,000 Starwood points at a 1:3 ratio for a free night.
That will save you lots of money because nightly rates at this hotel can regularly cost more than $500!
2. Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Autograph Collection
Take an adventure to Hawaii’s largest island, the Big Island, and enjoy a stay at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Autograph Collection.
On the Big Island, you can visit Kilauea, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Or you can walk along a black sand beach!
You can spend some time relaxing too, at the Mauna Kea Spa, which is located at the hotel.
Based on TripAdvisor reviews, the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is the #1 rated hotel in this area of the Big Island.
A free night at the hotel costs 40,000 Marriott points. But you can also convert 14,000 Starwood points.
Using points is a terrific deal because nightly room rates are between ~$375 and ~$700!
3. St. Regis Princeville Resort
The St. Regis Princeville Resort is a luxury hotel located along the coast on the island of Kauai.
There’s lots do in Kauai like:
- Play golf at Makai Golf Club
- Zipline, kayak, or hike with Princeville Ranch Adventures
- Visit the Limahuli Garden and Preserve
- Check out the Kilauea lighthouse
But you might not want to leave the hotel grounds because the views are incredible!
The hotel ranks #1 in this area of Kauai according to TripAdvisor reviews.
Folks love this hotel whether you’re traveling as a couple or family. The service, pool, and views are mentioned in lots of reviews!
You’ll use 30,000 Starwood points for a free night, which is a good deal relative to the $600+ cash cost of a room night!
4. Kauai Marriott Resort
The beachfront Kauai Marriott Resort is only ~5 minutes from the airport. So it can be a great option if you’re only visiting Kauai for a short time.
The hotel has a free airport shuttle. And there’s golf available next door at the Hokuala Golf Course.
You’re also just ~5 minutes from Wailua Falls. Or you can learn to surf with the Kauai Beach Boys.
Folks on TripAdvisor like how quick and easy it is to get from the airport right to the hotel’s beach. And guests love the clean pool and jacuzzis!
A free night at this hotel costs 40,000 Marriott points. Or you can convert 14,000 Starwood points.
The cash cost of a room can range from ~$300 to ~$600. So redeeming points can be a good way to save some cash!
5. Moana Surfrider, a Westin Resort & Spa
Folks traveling to the Honolulu might consider a stay at the Moana Surfrider hotel. This is a Starwood branded hotel located ~1 hour from Pearl Harbor.
This is a historic hotel that was built more than 100 years ago. You won’t believe the first guests that stayed here paid $1.50 per night!
The hotel is located right along Waikiki beach. You can watch folks surf, relax in the pool lounge chairs, or listen to live music from the bar in the evening.
Million Mile Secrets team member Jasmin stayed here with her mom and sister. They loved the “Old Hawaii” feel of the hotel, and enjoyed watching live entertainment while sitting under the hotel’s iconic (and enormous) banyan tree.
Folks on TripAdvisor rank this hotel highly! They love hearing the waves crashing at night from the guest rooms.
You’ll redeem 20,000 Starwood points for a free night at this hotel. Or you can convert 60,000 Marriott points.

You can use the savings for a surf lesson!
How to Earn Points for Free Stays
Remember, you can transfer points instantly between your Marriott or Ritz-Carlton and Starwood loyalty accounts at a 3:1 ratio.
So you can use points from either of the 3 loyalty programs to book an award night. But before you book, be sure to link your accounts and get an instant status match. This way you’ll enjoy all of the perks regardless of which hotel chain you choose.
Here are the cards that can earn you points for award night stays!
1. Marriott and Ritz-Carlton Credit Cards
If you get the personal version of the card, you can earn another 7,500 bonus Marriott points when you add an authorized user and make a purchase within the first 3 months of opening your account. The $85 annual fee is NOT waived for the first year.
2. Starwood Credit Cards
And remember, when you pay for hotel stays using your AMEX or Chase co-branded Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, or Starwood credit card, you’ll earn bonus points at all 3 hotel chains. For everyday non-bonus spending, I recommend the AMEX Starwood cards. Because you’ll earn 1 Starwood point per $1 you spend, which can be converted to 3 Marriott or Ritz-Carlton points. That’s better than the 1 Marriott or Ritz-Carlton point per $1 you spend you’ll get with the Marriott and Ritz-Carlton cards.
3. Qualifying for These Cards
The AMEX cards are easier to get than the Chase cards. Because earlier this year, Chase made it difficult for folks to be approved for certain Chase cards if you’ve opened ~5 or more credit cards (from any bank) in the past 24 months (excluding certain business cards).
That said, you ARE eligible for the Chase Ritz-Carlton card even if you’ve opened lots of cards recently!
You can use Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, or Starwood points to stay at fantastic hotels throughout Hawaii.
Redeeming points can save you hundreds of dollars per night on the cash cost of a room night.
Before you book, be sure to link your Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, and Starwood loyalty accounts. This way you’ll enjoy all of the benefits of your elite status across all 3 hotel chains!
